What was the biggest misconception you had about actors that was dispelled once you worked on set?

I think a lot of directors are just afraid of actors because they are afraid of emotions. Like she said, in life we do everything we can to repress or run away from our emotions. Working with actors causes directors to be forced to remove themselves from the comfort zone of their technical brain and open themselves up to someone whose entire job is to express emotion at them. I think the first thing for directors to do is to stop seeing actors as “actors” but just seeing them as people who are there to do a job to serve the story just like they are and then they can collaborate with them without fear.

Read both her books - directing actors and intuition. Very informative and practical. Directing is hard. Theres no easy way or shortcuts. Another great guest speaker. Keep up the good work.

I would love to believe Judith's methods are being utilized on all sets.

Great upload! ❤️ I totally learned something from this. I will now go and quietly chat to my actors. Wow I didn't think of that, the "people are now watching" aspect 😬. Thanks guys 🙏

Isn't this all rehearsal stuff where you figure out what works or not?

In an ideal scenario, yes, for most of that. But, for lower budget projects, rehearsal time is often not quite as available, due to people either having other projects as well, or a day job etc.

Some actors do get emotional! Bottom-line actors are human, not robots.
