I had to leave my 2 kids' mother to get them out of foster care (long story). In the nearly 12 years I have been raising them alone, I have been in 1 relationship for 8 months. She was a wonderful single mom of 2 kids, 12 years younger, beautiful but absolutely terrible with money. She wanted us to move in together, I didn't. She eventually ended it and we were on good terms. It hurt, but with a busy life there isn't much time to nurse a broken heart. For the last 5 years I have put my focus on my kids and my career and nothing else. I am alone but not lonely. I was never good with relationships and have learned a lot about myself and who I am. I love my girls more than anything in the world, I love my work, my co-workers, my friends and that is enough for now.

Beware of the love bombing.Your vulnerability at this time is used by your new partner to their advantage. We overcompensate trying not to repeat “our mistakes” from the previous relationship and overlook red flags in our new partner. If you were in your 40’s like I was and still a virile man the last thing on your mind is shutting down physical intimacy and crawling off and becoming a monk in a cave. Pride has alot to do with it, societal pressure (no man should be alone)and generational dogma. Yes, in hindsight take the time to heal. Become the prize and enjoy your life and freedoms. We need to work on our “ baggage “ before we blindly pick up that of another. If the piece of intimacy is still a need, strategically obtain it on your terms and boundaries. Self Love is paramount for your health and sanity. We have given love to mankind all though our lives and many have lost themselves in the process. There is a reason why they say a Dog is a man’s best friend. The world sees us as a useful utility to be used up, the dog sees us as a kindred loving spirit.

You gave it away early; you wanted to “go all in” with the next one. This is where you went wrong; the biggest mistake after divorce isn’t dating, it’s “going all in” with the next one and rushing into your next marriage.
