@Adele K Think when Jimmy let the lead go In 92 that was more forgivable as any lead could slip whilst playing Hendry. The missed black really got to me as that was more or less match ball,to be fair though it was a great clearance by Hendry.Oh well it is what it is.

6 mistakes that spring to mind : 1) A simple black along a cushion that would have allowed binman Danny Fowler ( who remembers him? ) to defeat an 18 year old Stephen Hendry. 2) A miss on the colours ( preceded by a neanderthal shout by an audience member ) from Tony Meo in a ranking final decider against a mid-80s (ie peak) Nugget. 3) John Higgins playing too conservatively with his positional play and not going for the kill in his deciding frame contribution vs Nigel Bond in the 1996 British Open final. 4) Joe Johnson landing slightly the wrong side of the blue then missing the pink when 2 pots away from a maximum (1987-ish ). 5) Ebdon missing the black off the spot vs Hendry in the 2002 wc final. Pressure of that magnitude could do that to anyone of course. 6) Mark King, not so long ago, overthinking then messing up the pink when 2 pots away from a maximum ( and £20k ).

@@rayfinkle2805 People forget this. He's been very open in his later years that when they reached 17-17 he went out to the toilets and took a whole line of coke before coming back for the decider. That cue action on the black was excessive nerves caused by the drugs. A double-edged sword of course, since nobody will ever know (even Jimmy himself) how much of his spectacular form was due to the ultra focus and accuracy that coke can provide.

To be fair to Jimmy, he won plenty of matches at the Crucible and elsewhere in high pressure situations. Most players can be expected to get twitchy at 17-17 in a World final... even more so when you've lost in 5 previous finals.

Sorry but Nigel Bond deserved that, any player am or pro (yes I play snooker too) can easily see that was a natural in-off into the centre pocket if hitting the white in the centre, I myself would have played the white with bottom-left and swing it round the table, seriously stupid mistake from a pro player, I bet with that look on Hendry's face even he was thinking what a stupid way of playing it, very lucky to get a chance of potting it again, could have been VERY costly.

Under that amount of pressure he'd have been thinking only of potting the ball. He maybe intended to strike the white slightly lower, which would've steered it clear of the middle. At least he held himself together when he had a second chance.

I remember staying up to watch that1086 final. I had stopped watching when Dennis went 8-0 down to Davis, as it was horrible to watch him go through that. At the time, Davis was imperious, the best in the game at the time. I resumed watching once Taylor drew it back level at 8-8. Wish I’d had a tenner on him for the win. Hindsight, eh?
