Interesting fact is the Robidoux made such a fuss about Ronnie playing left handed that Ronnie was called to a meeting to explain his actions at a disciplinary board. He argued that he was just as skilled with his left than he was with his right. They made him play 3 frames of snooker against former world semi finalist Rex Williams and stated he could only play left handed shots. He won all 3 frames….
@letsdiscussitoversometea84792 жыл бұрын
Fred Davis won 8 world championship titles and was entirely ambidextrous. I doubt Robidoux considered that before jumping to negative conclusions about the practice. I think he was just p*ssed off that it was Ronnie that was doing it. My guess.

I'm sure Alex said at first he nominated the green. Then went back on his word. He should've showed some sportsmanship and encouraged the referee to overturn his decision.

At a guess ronnie is one of them players that really gets in the zone and the snooker flows for him , when it cant get in that zone its better for him to save face and concede than play the worst snooker live on cam of his life , if he isnt in the zone then it aint happening

Selby notices some chalk on the target ball and asks the ref to clean it. The ref says that the chalk mark is on the side away from the cue ball so will not affect the shot. Due to the position of the ball, the ref will be reluctant to clean it in case he puts it back incorrectly and either gives Selby an advantage or a disadvantage. By the letter of the law he is correct. But in the context of the match the refusal to clean the ball may then have put Selby off his shot.

With number 9 surely the ref should step in before the shot is played to make sure the coloured ball is nominated. Nevertheless you can clearly hear cliff nominate green
@morganfreemanwannabe2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it doesn't even make sense to watch the guy set up for his shot, clearly intending to shoot, let him shoot, and only then reveal that you believed you were looking at a foul about to to happen the whole time. It's like he was eager to catch him out on the technicality- like he was mad at him or something. Very strange
@peterdickinson81522 жыл бұрын
People clearly don't understand snooker. It is the players responsibility to make his intentions known when going for a colour. It is not down to the referee to ask. Therefore Thorburn should have repeated if the ref hadn't heard him

I loved it when Alex described himself as the "stalwart" of the game. Alex could have correctly described himself as "brilliant", trail-blazing", inimitable" etc. Yet he choose a description which, I believe, he knew was ridiculous just out of bloody-mindedness.

This romanticism you see of him is ridiculous. He was an arsehole. Violent, abusive, selfish and full of hate. I saw that dramatisation of him and Davis and Barry Hearn on BBC2 and had I not remembered what he was like I may have fell for it. Claimed to be the peoples champion which he never was. Yes he gave away money to causes but how hard is that? He had it, got tax breaks and headlines. Maximum effort? Nope. Yet when it came time to do exhibitions and tours around Belfast for his "people" he was too wrecked. Plus hating on a poor kid for coming up the ranks. steve Davis is played as being unpopular but everyone I knew as a kid in the early 80's fucking loved him.

What does it matter what hand you play snooker in, as long as you pot the ball your aiming for. A snooker player to play with left and right hand is a bonus because it can help them get the pot they are aiming for.
