White Canadian guy that lived in India here. What a thoughtful and respectful video! Indian immigrants are such a great asset in Canada, and we appreciate all that you bring to the country. There are some minor cultural differences that we can smooth over if we make the effort to understand each other better. Loved the video!

Did you come across black Indians and afro-indians while you were there? Did they tell you how my desi people treat black skinned folks? Do you know get to learn the local language and culture while you were there? Do you know what "achoot", "dalit", "OBC" mean? The baggage and 'stuff' that comes along with the people is very real. The problem is, the people in power do not allow an honest discussion on these issues. There's no doubt that Indians are a part of Canada. My own grandparents were born in India, and I have no other home but Canada. The problem is, we're not dealing with the issues in an honest manner. Canada needs to address the Allah/Elephant/Ganesh in the room and uphold secularism.

@@BornKafir India is now brining a growing number of Nigerian and African students and migrants. Many Nigerian doctors, programmers, engineers and business people now work in Mumbai and Bangalore.

@@BornKafir I agree with this, anecdotally the only openly anti-black racist I have had to deal with was an Indian woman who specifically asked me not to assign her any person who was black. I've never met a white Canadian who cared about the race of employees. On top of that, newly immigrant (not just Indian immigrants) small franchisee owners only hiring employees who are the same caste, race, region, language, religion as them does not go on unnoticed by us Canadians. We see that your hiring practices are prejudice and racist and greatly disapprove. We'll be kind when we enter your establishment, but we greatly judge you for hiring non-Canadians or having a non-diverse pool of workers. Still, we'll be left thinking about what a racist bigot the owner is and rethinking whether or not we will be going back to patronize the business. Edit: also putting up religious idols whether Christian, Hindu, Islamic, Buddhist in your businesses is off-putting. It shows that you don't want to make your work environment secular and a comfortable place for all employees regardless of religion. Yes, employers can do as they wish with this, but as a secular culture, we see this similar to the French's laïcité and don't care about your religion. Treat it like your private parts and keep it to yourself. That is it's gauche to be overly religious in public. And yes, we secular Canadians also look at Canadians with overt displays of Christian crosses on their necks and think the same. The noise level is also a huge issue, people who play their music loudly in public. At any beach in the Toronto area or GTA, people love to blast their music where you can hear it all the way beach (let alone any public place). We Canadian are judging you greatly and thinking about how narcissistic and low-class you are being unable to properly behave in a public space (and yes we go straight to thinking that you're an immigrant an not a Canadian if you do this behaviour). Don't play loud music in public, let alone don't play music in public at all. Buy headphones.

@@BornKafir I saw lots in India I wasn't impressed with, and I've done more than my fair share to promote secularism in Canada and around the world. My comment was that this man's video was thoughtful and respectful, which it was. This man wasn't claiming Indian culture was without flaws, nor was I. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

What a lovely and thoughtful video. Canadians are (for the most part) a welcoming people who want to retain our identities while welcoming others with cultures new to us. I think you strike a solid balance between staying true to yourself while respecting the culture you're integrating into. Cheers, and good luck!

Is noise a Punjabi issue or Indian issue? I have noticed Indians are quiet and very well behaved. I live in the USA and have not noticed this as an issue with Indians.
@nelrod03
@nelrod03 Ай бұрын
Maybe the Indians whom you interacted have blended in to N American life i.e. new Immigrants and those who have been educated here. And there are those Indians, who just want to make a buck & care a damn about their reputation. Re. the Punjabi's, you can add the folks from Tamil Nadu to that list too - as they are brash & think abat they are the only ones existing.

@@NoName-zi1tg So do Gujaratis, Bengalis, Assamese, Oriyas, Nepalis, Kashmiris, Rajasthanis and most north Indians. I don't see noise as being an issue, except for maybe the less cultured Punjabis. Noise isn't a big issue in Bangalore, Calcutta (except for woke political activists) and most Indian cities either. Some weird things seem to be happening in Canada that don't seem to happen outside of Canada, and "maybe" Punjab. [I don't know much about Punjab, so I could be wrong.]

Another reason is that you practice institution racism in canada in your hiring and renting practices. You swarm a workplace and only hire based on caste, language, colour etc. you scare the hell out of a place. Do you think a black or Muslim person can rent easily in Brampton. the issue is much bigger than your annoying. Indians sadly are so racist and hateful. Hopefully public pressure will stop this. In Seattle they made an anti caste law. In Brampton after Diwali 2022 they banned fire workers. Eventually Indian business and mangers will be faced with lawsuits due to the rampant discrimination and racism we are seeing.
