I wouldn't use any oil other brand/viscosity than what BMW say should be used. I've been using what's stated with an N52 engine for 8 years without a peep. 😊

I own the 540i g30 MPerformance 2019 stock. This summer i drove 30.000km around EU 80%of the time in Sport+ and every time i had the ocazion push the car in 260km/h (Max) 😁 after i finish my jurney it showed med the coolant low, bit after 30.000km its super good. The motor oil i have tryed last time was Castrol 5w30 with No problems. I just love the540i g30 and this Legendary B58 motor its Verry reliable if u take care of it properly.

I use Fuchs Titan GT1 LL04 approved 5w30 and use around 1 litre between changes (Every 7000 miles). I find the coolant loss more annoying.

The new Mobile 1 ESP 5w30 is rated for both BMW LL04 and MB 229.52, I will consider use this oil for my X5 after 4 years free maintenace program.

B58 here, burned 1qt 3400 miles since purchase. Winter it kept oil fine, soon as weather turned boom 1qt over probably 1000 miles.

I guess the warmer weather helps burn the oil quicker then. Now that you mention it, I think I was adding oil more frequently in the summer.

I always use liquid moly 5w-30 for my 340i and dont have burning oil issues

Remember, engines start to burn 🔥 oil mainly because of long maintenance intervals. Plus, people seldom change or service their PCV valve.

I have over 100,000 and I have never had that problem. I have a 2016 and it’s always been dealer serviced at the proper intervals. You may need to take your car in for an inspection 🤷🏾✊🏽

That’s great to hear about your 2016 X3. Our cars don’t have the same engine I believe. I believe the issues for my car has to do with the thin oil in warmer weather.

@@TMidnight No I have a 340i but it’s the first gen B58, I think you have the TU, there are some differences. It shouldn’t burn oil though, I owned the car Phoenix for the first 5 years, so I know all about heat though. I hope you get that sorted out, I would be giving my dealership the blues if I was burning oil.✊🏽
@TMidnight

Oh my bad I didn’t realize the 2016 also had the B58. I would take the car in to the dealer but I’m out of warranty now. I might do some experimenting with different viscosities of oil. Thanks so much for your insight!

I use liqui moly 5w30/40 depending on weather. 0w20 is too thin, they use it for fuel efficiency, it will burn if you drive hard.

I agree that oil is too thin. I usually don’t drive the car hard. It’s in comfort mode like 98% of the time.

Plenty of mods no engine work as yet, 520bhp. No major issues, I change the oil every 8-9k. Which for me is 6 months. I think I may do water pump when I change the auxiliary belt. Car is an M140i RWD.

Oil level you have… in the middle… is where the oil level should be. I mean always… And whatever you do do not out 5w30 inside the engine… use the specified oil. There are a lot of videos explaining why it is not healthy to put different oil inside.
