Speaking as a dual student in mechanical engineering in Germany (5. semester), I am glad to have seen the theoretical side in the university and the practise at work. First engineering seemed really frightening to me because of the incredibly diverse course content. I thought that I would never be capable of using all the theoretical stuff in practise. But big suprise! Neither can the qualified engineers, who work for several years. Engineering or studying in general is more of learning how to properly learn new stuff and adapt fastly to new problems. Now I really enjoy being at work and facing challenging tasks. Learning from long serving engineers is the most valuable experience one can get on his way to become an engineer himself. To all freshmans: Just be persisent! Everything is gonna be just fine

You were actually right about that learning fact. I had my thermodynamics paper today.. My final exam actually. I was well prepared with each n every concept in my mind but somehow the paper just went OK although I expected to ace the exam since I really worked hard on this subject. But what I realised later today is I actually learned something new. I like learning. I don't like memorising stuff without any evidence but instead I like lesrnjng new things and honesty I've learned a lot in thermodynamics and hopefully I'll be using these things in the future once I'm done with my engineering... So I'd actually say that learning process plays a MAJOR role in any engineering career I believe

What do you think of Mechatronics Engineering , I'm going to University next year and I cant decide between mechatronics and software(computer science). On one hand , I LOVE robotics and part of me wants to go into the car industry, But on the other hand , Mechatronics is still fairly new which means that a lot of people mistake it for mechanical or electrical (which thinking about it now doesn't sound all that bad) but that just means that job opportunities and pay are low and I'm terrified that I'll go into the wrong thing and end up hating it . If u have any advice on how to decide or just anything it will be really helpful. I've recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching it since(I blame u for my late nights doing hw that's due the next day) and it has been really helpful so thank u for the amazing content u put out.

I’ve been wanting to major in BME, but I’ve recently met an undergrad in BME who is giving me doubts. He went to uni in Arizona and graduated with flying colours. He has not been able to get any engineering jobs after graduating, and thinks he’ll never get an engineering job because he’ll never get the required experience. They applied for many internships many times during Uni but never got one. They also said that as a BME it’s a lot more difficult to get internships than an electrical engineer. I thought this could’ve been a big reason why they can’t get employed as an engineer. I also asked if they had been in any extracurricular engineering teams like a design team, he said no. So, I thought that could’ve been why he couldn’t get internships which in turn leads to him not getting employed. Also, I thought that maybe their state or area didn’t have enough opportunities for BMEs. What are your thoughts on this? Do you have any advice for me? I’d really love to major in BME, but I want to ensure I’ll work as an engineer after I graduate, and I’ll be able to get internships during uni, thanks.

I have a few question about how you managed with reentering the workforce as an engineer after 5 years of playing poker for a living. 1) How did you manage dealing with the theoretical side of things having been out of the game for so long? 2) Do you think your degree fully prepared you to managed most things you encountered or was it more that it gave you a solid fundamental frame work to manage learning about new systems and concepts far easier? 3; and more of a side question) I am currently enrolled in a B.Sc Mechanical Engineering degree that is 3 years as opposed to the typical 4 year Beng (Three years seems to be a common degree in Australia). After completion, I can enroll in a 2/3 year Masters degree program with the first year covering what is typically done in the last year of a 4 year program. My question is, will I be in a sketchy position entering the workforce with my 3 year degree? I plan to complete my masters while I work, but I'm terrified I fall short having not covered certain concepts like those seen in the final year of a 4 year program. Any advice?

I believe he said “P-Eng” which is also known as “Principles and Practice of Engineering.” Essentially an examination to become certified as a Professional Engineer. The prerequisite to it is to have completed your FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) examination to be an EIT (Engineer in Training) and to have worked progressively under another PE for about 4 years.
