As a capitals fan it’s hilarious to see all the hate Willy gets from opposing fans. I'm a long time Caps fan and Wilson has been a huge bonus to the team and the NHL in general. The big hits really get the fans into it which in turn helps the players get more confidence and room to get things done. All you people saying he's a menace or a douche or whatever wouldn't be saying all this if he was on your favorite team. Every team wishes they had a player like Tom Wilson on their team and they could if power forwards would play their positions correctly and not be scared of going for the big hit. I've been watching hockey since the early 90's and hits were much more brutal then than they are now. The best and meanest checker that Tom Wilson could never beat is Scott Stevens. He was known as a heavy hitter and I loved watching him do it even though he wasn't on my favorite teams.

Check out his hit on Zadorov, big Willy don’t care who you are. Physicality on all opponents is important. That’s how the beat Tampa Bay and Vegas had no answer even with Reaves playing. No salt here, I like Wilson, I think he's a solid player and I love how he plays FAST and plays HARD.... but....what I don't like is how most of his big hits he has zero intention of playing the puck... he just see's an opportunity to take advantage of a vulnerable player. It's dangerous... and he has/will caused some serious injuries. Glad to see Reeves hit him the other night so he has a better understanding of how it SUCKS getting a head injury. @luv2motorboat6 жыл бұрын
gotta absolutely disagree with you there. they have him locked up for term. was telling my girlfriend after seeing what Marchessault was doing to the jets all by himself, someone may have to take a penalty and absolutely run him, even if its borderline dirty if they wanted to win the series. didn't do it, and so Vegas walked right on by them, only to have Wilson do it in game 1 of the SCF. planted him on his ass. told her again, Marchessault is going to step up an earn himself a cup after recovering from that, or he's going to be a non-factor because he's going to be worried about that freight train running him over again. what happens next? Wilson destroys Karlsson the next game, making their two most dangerous offensive players completely a non-factor in the whole series. I'd say that's value added in a playoff series.

J C he is 24 years old who has consistently played better with age, and is among the league leader in Hits and blocked shots. He also plays 1st Unit PK on a very successful team. He had 14 Goals last season with literally zero PP time. There aren’t a lot of agitators in the league who can agitate as well as him, and can intimidate other teams. He does have a very unique skill set, and stood out a lot during the regular season and ESPECIALLY the playoffs. The contract was suspected to be around 4.5 million anyways. 5.1 million isn’t as bad as people make it out to be lol. With another expansion team in Seattle, there will be another cap raise, and Ovechkin/Backstrom/Holtby’s contract expiring will also help as well (I’m pretty sure Ovechkin and Backstrom will sign for less money). People who think he is another Ryan Reaves is an absolute fool that hasn’t even properly analyzed this guy lol.
@jc31276 жыл бұрын
Rocco Anthony Definetly agree with you. The only thing I’m concerned about is if Wilson sees how much he’s getting paid and feels like he needs to change his game. Or, if he gets suspended maybe he looks to tone down his physicality. His offensive attributes are a nice bonus to his style of play, but the 5.1 million cap hit is not because of his offensive contribution potential. If he keeps his game hard, physical, and doesn’t cross that line with his offense continuing to improve, we might look at this contract as a bargain. Also to consider: the cap ceiling is only going to go up so 5.1 million now might not look as big as 5.1 million in 2022
@roccoanthony89306 жыл бұрын
J C exactly. This isn’t a “bad contract” as people make it out to be. The Jack Johnson contract is FAR WORSE than this, considering he was benched during the playoffs, and was a 3rd pairing Defensemen at best in a Blue Jackets organization. The only problem I have is the same with you. I hope he doesn’t “water down” his game. If he can play like Marchand-lite, than I would be fine...just not as many suspension as Marchand. He never slew foots or elbows in a manner that Marchand does, so I don’t think he would be getting as suspension as Marchand, so I have high hopes.
@jc31276 жыл бұрын
Rocco Anthony I would wait to call Johnson’s contract bad because a change of scenery and playing with familiar teammates might help his game a lot. It was certainly a surprising contract and doesn’t have as much upside I think as Wilson’s contract but I’m not going to pass a lot of judgement yet. And yeah Wilson has a lot of questionable hits, but I’ve never seen him seek to injure a player like Marchand has. Wilson just hits hard and gets under guys skin, but he doesn’t do the kind of underhanded stuff Marchand does. You know what to expect with Wilson.

Scirzorz or more like the league is so pussified... And the reason is simple, because a “certain hockey player” couldn’t handle the physicality of the NHL...lol. This is why I don’t consider “him” as a top 10 all time player (or top 15 for that matter lol). He would have already retired had the league not pussified.
@steveparkin23666 жыл бұрын
Good player, the problem is he goes for the kill shot rather than simply making a good play. The NHL and NFL are trying to make their games safer, and really the only way it will get there IMO is if people in both sports stop trying to get kill shots on people (clean or otherwise) and simply settle for making a good play. You really can make effective contact with people without having to truck them as hard as humanly possible. That mentality doesn't exist in Wilson's brain and he's going to find himself suspended into oblivion if he doesn't get with the program.

Nicolas O'Brien I thought he got elbow to head on Reinhart. I’m fine with the no-call, even as a Sabres fan, but it’s just that wasn’t as cut-and-dry clean as the others. Paquettes I thought was a strange one. It’s not boarding because if Paquette was paying attention, he would have braced for impact and 99% of the time, he absorbs the contact and at worst gets turned towards the boards. The end-result of the hit was dangerous for sure, but it’s about as shoulder-to-shoulder as you can get.

He also leads the league in Hits and blocked shots as a Forward. If you think he is Lucic/Reaves 2.0, than you need to do more research lmao.
