9:34 Coach Paul Gardnet, I played for him the the CHL years ago for the Bloomington Blaze. The guy always wore Disney Ties and was one of the nicest guys there is in the game. The team extended his contract, so he went out and bought a house. As soon as he signed on the house the ownership pulled the plug on his contract and told him they changed their minds, screwing him over. Me and another rookie went out and got Jersey made with mustaches on them for every guy on our team. We hid them under our stalls and, at the last second the whole team pulled them out and wore them for warmups. Ownership was absolutely furious, but Paul was so appreciative that he was crying during pre-game speech. I'll never in my life forget his appreciation for what our group did. #thegerneral

Our main rival for a lot of those great Flyers teams was the New Jersey Devils. I HATED them, for so many reasons, but mostly because of how good they were, and how many times they ended our seasons. That being said, as the years have rolled by, if I had to take one goalie for my team, its Martin Brodeur, all day and twice on Sundays. The great play, the consistency year in and year out, to me, hes the best of all time. Guys like Martin, Roy, Hasek, they really took the position of goalie and brought it to a new level.

To get that type of clarity of voice we hear here , in an arena with an average attendance of 15k let’s say , it can only be done with a mic on them . OR with a separate mic VERY close by which of course wouldn’t happen on the ice . Near the bench ? Sure . But not on the ice . Should you hear the same clarity while they are on the ice and then skating to then sitting on the bench - they have a mic placed on them. The toughness was there and it was certainly entertaining but the skill levels starting in the 90's and leading up to now are just so much better. You can't tell me you want to go back to watching slower skaters shooting every shot along the ice with a wooden stick on a goaltender who exclusively makes saves standing up. The skill gap between an nhl player from 1970 and a player from 2024 is so massive it's unmeasurable. I think you want the toughness of the 70s and 80s to be paired with the skill of today

0:32 They show the score board with the Flames having scored 6 goals. The most important part here is that #30 has a 5 minute penalty. #30 is Mike Vernon, I looked it up and he got a 5 minute high sticking major and a game misconduct at this point in the 3rd period. The game was March 30th, 1990 Flames beat the Oilers 6-2.

Sad part is that they killed the spirit of the game to make it faster and high scoring, which it didn't. They don't even play in the corner anymore.

It sucks that nowadays goalies are more equipment than man. I love watching these guys in smaller pads who barely look like they have shoulder pads, still making saves. The league and the game have changed so much, damn. The 90s ruled. My fave hockey decade!
