You can have a mile wide ef-3 tornado and then a half mile wide ef-5 tornado. You can't measure the power of a tornado by size. You need to do damage assessment to determine it. Did the house just lose its roof? Is the house completely knocked down? Where the fuck did the house go? An ef-5 will leave a clean slab with no debris in sight, while an ef-3 will have the house still on the slab or maybe somewhere a little away but you can see it. An ef-2 will leave the house but without its roof. That is how you determine the wind speed of a tornado, not by its size.

Dont really feel like tornados are lusted by their size but by their width as the el reno tornado despite it being 2.6 miles wide or 4.3 km it was a high precipitation storm which means sure it was big but it was low to the ground and looked more like a ef5 wedge on steroids than a tower of wind....

You know, EF-5 Tornado is the largest diameter and dangerous. The way the weather has been, my thought is that one day we might see an EF-6. It's a scary thought.

Ef6 doesn't exist y'all. Second 1999 Moore is fastest wind speeds recorded at 302 +/- 20 mph. There are other possible but we cannot really measure intensity due to how hard it is to get those readings, thus why damage is used. (Storm chaser) Size is not an indicator of severity.

There has never been a tornado on earth with 400 mph winds. There is no such thing as a Ef-6 tornado. As of right now. The fastest wind speeds have gone over 300. Tornados don't usually get enough energy to do that.

@@armor-1305 There was NEVER a EF6 rating, also fun fact here: Dr. Fujita himself when he saw the damage to a F5 Tornado (forgot where) thought about making it the Mythical F6 (During the Tornado Outbreak in the 20th century) but he decided not to.

@puteqx nonono EF6's don't exist and never will, the closest we have to that is the (forgot location) F5 Tornado that Dr. Fujita himself thought if it should be the "Mythical F6" but he decided not to.

Aren't tornadoes measured by how wide they are, rather than how tall they are? Height has no relevance.

Wider tornadoes does not have to be more powerful. Like an ef4 could look like an ef1

what is spelt dust devils and tornadoes are actually kind of the same thing water spouts are tornadoes that form over water dust devils are tornadoes that form in the desert or that are made of dust and tornadoes or ones that form over land and are made of clouds and air they have different names that are made up of different things and are created in different areas but they're the same thing a Tornado
