@CONCERTMANchicago5 жыл бұрын
I like how they spread out all that weight on multiple tires. Otherwise you compact the fields soil, just screwing yourself up. You can never rototill that deep to loosen up again. No-till seems to be the way to go anyways. someday we'll be looking back at the old days to see how we used to turn over soil, opening up rhizosphaera to too much oxygen.
@b.w.225 жыл бұрын
CONCERTMANchicago - My godfather works with USAID in Africa and has spent the last 20 years funding research into better practices in really drought-prone areas. The things we are learning that are at direct odds with modern farming methods is amazing to me. Just ripping the areas where you plant instead of plowing the entire row is one, especially in these dry areas where the wind will blow all your loose soil away. But boy, farmers everywhere don’t want to try new unproven-to-them techniques: it’s only when the guy next door doubles his yield with half the cost does it begin to catch on. It’s all really interesting.
@CONCERTMANchicago5 жыл бұрын
@@b.w.22, You think humanity had already learned all we could after successfully farming over past ten thousand years. Yet like a horse whisperer, or a dog whisperer. Now modern Farmers need to be land whispers, symbiotically coexisting, mutually benefiting each other. So now rather than testing the soil to see and add what manufactured fertilizers, nutrients and minerals it lacks. Farmers are beginning to consider a wider spectrum of testing, such as state of soils organisms, what potentials they provide, retain soils optimal environment in order for them to thrive. Resulting in mycorrhizae extending and defending plants natural root systems. Along with necessity for soil-borne organisms to disseminate minerals which otherwise plants are physically incapable of up taking. Thank you for including such enlightening information. Your dad is just like DaVinci and Galileo who's scientific passion encourages empirical observation along with inventive experimentation awarded by hard-earned euphoric success. It's such an exciting time when learning firsthand from mother nature herself. As a volunteer, it's so gratifying to work with inner-city residents who could never receive such technical education involving everything trees and gardens unless otherwise paying highly paid professionals or by attending University. One of my historical figure mentors had been US agriculturist Aldo Leopold who was in the right place at the right time when our nation's Great plains dustbowl disaster struck in the 1930s. And His historical mentor had been Alexander Von Humboldt who in the late 1700s during an expedition to the Amazon rainforest. Was the first naturalist to observe damage humans were causing to the soils ecosystem where rainforests had been cut down and farming took over. Even during USA's manifest destiny era when German immigrants traveled Westward in the first half of the 1800s. Passing up treeless prairie, moving on to clear cutting forest for physical development into riparian farmland. They Began to discover only after 4 years. How without the trees leaves, branches and understory plants producing organic matter to replenish the soil each year. The land soon became worthless for growing crops with. During the late 1920s Aldo Leopold had begun researching into better agriculture methods, so just before the depressions drought disaster actually hit he was already prepared. When he moved back to Wisconsin, Leopold began teaching the first agricultural science classes. And later came up with the term, land ethic. As California and Great plains farmers could fall back on well drilling and field irrigation methods. Along with civil conservation Corps River damning and man-made lakes. Since then our continents aquifers have failed to be naturally replenished in a timely manner. Additionally urban sprawl has been increasingly competing with Farmers water rights. As an arborist and a local landscape and ecological historian. Also having family that grew fruits and vegetables on small plots. Over my life I have become increasingly interested in learning all I could about the grounds rhizosphere where the universe meets that magic surface of our planet Earth. And as someone who follows science. It was crazy to discover how we still do not know what makes up 75% of outer space. But experts admit they have yet to categorize 75% of the soil born species. The point is, after I began learning about proven natural alternatives to Urban soil improvements. Suddenly an increasing number of farmers from traditional family to industrial producers. Began attending lectures and trade symposiums where many of the university and state experts I had been following, began to encourage great changes in the way Farmers manage everything from fertilizer use to tilling alternatives.
