These " best " / " worst " people need to get their facts straight before they create these videos. The 8000 does NOT, nor EVER, EVER had a Select O Speed transmission... 6000 may have, 5000 definitely did have that option, and if I remember correctly, the 901. I grew up on a Wisconsin farm in the 60's/ 70's. We had two 8000's, one 5000, and a 901. I will post my picture with 3 of these Ford Tractors. Personally, we never had transmission issues with ANY of them

Well some of those may have had design issues - I'm not arguing that. But in general I saw several small light tractors being expected to do the work of larger tractors that would have had more horsepower and weight. Asking a 25-50HP tractor to do any type of field work is going to involve some mighty small implements and forget about a moleboard plow, not unless you have some extremely light soils. In the clay soils we have here a 100HP tractor could pull a 2 bottom plow, maybe a 3 bottom, but it would be working hard. But yeah, the Ford and IH tractors were poor designs.

The biggest problem with the 2+2 is that farmers used them like a high horsepower 4 wheel drive which they weren't. The initial release had too light a front end to handle being dualed and was never intended to be. The later higher horsepower models had much improvement and the design was fun to operate.

@mikewatson4644Ай бұрын
The 2+2 design was ahead of it's time. Poorly marketed by IH dealers. Many turned up the injection pump, added duals and weights trying to make the tractor compete with large frame articulated 4 wheel drive tractors. We had a local farmer who only ran green tractors that recognized what the tractor was intended to be used for that purchased one. He used like it was intended and loved it. It was the only red tractor on his farm. Later it was joined by several other red tractors.

I worked for a guy that had an 8000 about 20 years ago. What was said about the 8000 in this video perfectly describes that tractor. It was a raging pile with constant transmission issues. That tractor actually spent far more time in the shop than it did on the farm. When it was on the farm we only used it for light duty work because we knew how delicate and fragile it was.

The IH 3352 narrative is backward. It is a rear cab mount and a front engine mount. It is one of the weirdest production tractors you will ever see. It makes me think I need to go back to school, see one thing, and hear something else. It is not nice to confuse old people because I am easily confused. LOL! I did not recognize the names of many of these tractors. This has sprung up in the public due to a lack of alpha and beta testing. The mantra is “test, test, and more testing,” and there is a better chance of getting a good product to market. Very informative video.

The IH tractor has a heritage from the Hungarian Dutra tractors with the same concept with the same layout. However the Dutra tractors had conventional steering. Heavy to turn but with great traction. I wouldn't call that concept a failure though. The drawback is the ability to maneuver in tight spaces but the traction and weight distribution under load is the advantage. It's after all the question of getting the traction down into the ground and even ground pressure over all wheels with equal sized wheels is hard to beat.
@davidbeirer6423Ай бұрын

Leaky hydraulics on Soviet tractors are not a problem but a feature. Not only Belarus 510 has faulty hydraulics. Other Belarus tractors have faulty hydraulics. Hell! All Soviet tractors have faulty hydraulics, no matter if they were produced by HTZ, MTZ, VTZ, JuMZ or any other factory producing tractors in USSR. Machining on hydraulic cylinders and pistons leaves a lot to be desired, but what fails the most often is seals. You can change them once a month and they still gonna leak. While electrical system is not much of an issue, as there isn't much electric stuff on this tractor in the first place and replacing starter motor and a battery with modern ones solves the problem, the real issue is terrible ergonomics, especially really crude transmission with weird gear pattern. It's also a problem shared with other Soviet tractor designs, unknown in other Eastern Block tractors made in Czechoslovakia, Poland or Yugoslavia. Seems like Soviets had real problems with precision machining. I don't agree on parts availability, at least in countries where those tractors were sold the most. They still are available to this day and dirt cheap, as MTZ still produces those tractors in barely changed form and a lot of small companies from China, India or Indonesia still makes new spare parts.

The Belarus 510 isnt even available in east europe. I belive its only exclusive to middle east and pakistan area. They are built there so it would be excpected that they have shotty build quality. The tractor that it is based on (MTZ 50/52) is a great tractor. The 80 hp model which came after the 50/52 with the more square cab is even better. Many farmers in east europe still use them as they are the most popular choice of tractor and the most reliable and still somewhat cheap to afford. The newer models with the big cabins are also fairly decent.
