BIGGEST Update EVER Coming To Medieval Kingdoms 1212AD! - Total War Mod News

So it’s been over a year since we had an update to the Attila mod Medieval Kingdoms Total War 1212 AD which is a long long time. Since then we know the team have been working on higher tier mercenaries and region specific area of recruitment.
There’s been a massive effort to convert battle maps for the Western Roman Empire cities & towns and work being done on faction overhauls & mechanics like the Holy Roman Empire or the College of Cardinals.
With the Dawnless Days announcement of a Campaign Map Modding tool there’s been some details coming out of the MK1212 team about focus shifting towards overhauling the campaign with new regions, moved cities and new or returning factions.
A lot of people have been asking me where the next update is as it’s been well over a year so in this video we’re going to look at all the progress the team has made so far and why you should definitely be excited!

I'm not going to say CA is blameless when it comes to how they handle things but if you think Medieval 3 is going to be Warhammer-esque with Richard the Lionheart wiping out whole swathes of Muslim armies like Sauron on the field of battle then you've been smelling your own farts for too long.

If one had the power to pull strings at CA it would be awesome if they'd just make this project an official CA project; give them the tools to make whatever they need and release it as a standalone title, similar to how Valve adopted Black Mesa which started off as a mod project. It would go a long way as a welcome gesture from CA to the community and create a lot of good will.

Would be very interesting for sure, like I can imagine it being mandatory to use ships or small boats, that can possibly dock on small clusters of land, but large scale warfare? If my memory of assassins creed brotherhood is correct, Venice is a city on a large body of water right😅

@@Mr.Liam. Venice is indeed on a large body of water, and there will def be something naval attached or you could have wider streets which will have to be the work around more or less. I wonder if there were any sieges of Venice throughout history

@@MedjayofFaiyum I think the only real siege was Napoleon, and at that point the republic decided to surrender because Napoleon threathened to bombard the city into oblivion with canons. After that it went up into the Austrian empire after the congress of vienna, and then up into italy after ww1. The strong point about the city is that, yes its surrounded by water, but not only that its a full blown mile wide lagoon wich is very shallow so big ships cant traverse the lagoon. On top of that Venice would have one of the largest navies with hundreds of galleys wich are suited to shallow waters. A full on siege of Venice in medieval times would require a D-day style landing with hundreds of rowing boats. With street to street fighting ensuing on very very narrow streets. All in all, it was almost impregnable for hundreds of years untill the advent of gunpowder thats why it also doesnt have any batllements or defensive works and traders could flaunt their wealth not in defense but in beauty giving rise to the venetian architecture. For the mod I would almost suggest they just build a naval battle map of the lagoon with Venice in the middle and let the battle commence. :)

The one thing I love the most is how most units are not uniform in the appearance of the individual models, it adds to the mess of medieval warfare given how most, if not all equipment was done by artisans.

Not only that, there was barely a sense of uniformity in fighting units anyhow, people had to buy their own gear and generally painted it in the colors of their home town. Imagine going to war with what is basically a band of football hooligans armed with whatever a minimum income can get you, and they all have different priorities.

@@zippyparakeet1074 The Roman empire is the exception in that sense, there wouldn't be another professional and uniformed army in Europe until the 1600's, until then you could only speak of "common equipment" that was informed by region and culture.

I just downloaded this mod and started an HRE campaign. I got flattened in 20 turns but I really enjoyed how my army was made up of 4 separate corps from around Germany

Can't wait to see what the Late Campaign looks like. But I'll gladly take this, so happy the biggest hurdle of modding Atilla was overcome. Map design gives so much authenticity to player investment. At least for me. I honestly am very excited to see the new changes and especially as a Spaniard seeing proper borders in Iberia ❤

I literally cried when hearing of this news. You wouldn't know how much i was hyped for this. Since the day the campagin modding tool was announced, every night before I put myself to sleep, I kept dreaming of a 'ideal' Mk1212 campaign with all the possibilities and grestness such a tool can facilitate. Finally! Immense work from the team, I'm guessing we all have been waiting for months if not years for proper battle maps. The absence of castle and medieval walls was just breaking the immersion on the long run. I would suggest a coming video on the "top" sub-mods for MK1212!

Finally these amazing people have cracked the crazy restrictive campaign map modability of modern total wars. We're entering a new Era of modding and I am totally excited. It's been over a year since I played a 1212 campaign. When this update comes I definitely need to give it another go.

Creative Assembly really need to develop their own map editor tools or license the one they use so they can provide it to modders. They are missing out on a huge revenue stream by not doing so, just think of the thousands of copies they will sell of Empire, Napoleon, Rome 2, Warhammer etc. if people could create total conversions of them. They are still selling copies of Rome 1 and Medieval 2 to people who only want to play mods. The only reason I bought Medieval 2 was for the Third Age mod and the only reason I bought Crusader Kings 1 & 2 is for the Game of Thrones mods. WAKE UP CA! A lot of your newer games suck but would sell well if their maps could be modded!

@@Gecko.... They think otherwise. Corporate thinking is that if you use mods, you will stick longer with game and you will not be tempted to DLCs or new games. And they got generally it right - you buy this game once and honestly if you are in Total War niche (either historical, fantasy or both) you will probably buy game anyway. But with mods? That is why most of franchises don't share modding tools anymore. Remember Battlefield 2 mods? No more with 3 and beyond.

@@ArisPLteles Mods don't stop you buying their next release though as they are full of new features, story, better engine, graphics etc. and most of the modders usually switch to modding the latest game. As for DLC a lot of the time a mod requires it to work.

Beautiful, this is my favorite Attila mod and in the top 5 favorite mods in every TW game I've played. It's a shame that we won't get merchant republic mechanics and since I'm from the Balkans area and love playing as Balkan factions, some of them desperately need a unit roster update such as Croatia, but that's a relatively minor complaint given how fleshed out most of the factions are and I can just play them in the meantime. In particular I've been thinking of doing a Norway campaign as my first one in this update, since they'll get a city and won't just be a horde anymore.

One thing I was wondering was if they were going to add bonuses to becoming the modern kingdoms. I was playing Milan last week and I became the Kingdom of Italy, but it didn't seem to change much beyond beyond the faction name.

I really hope the city of Jerusalem gets special attention around its appearance considering how significant & important it was during this period. Please add the Dome of the Rock (the most recognizable structure in Jerusalem) Also, any Christian or muslim faction with control of the city should get special benefits similar to how muslim factions with control of Mecca get special benefits. I'm really excited for this new Mod! Great work overall.

The Sagrada Familia is not a medieval cathedral, the original project started in the early 10's of the XX century by the great architect Gaudí. Also, it has nothing to do with gothic architectural style

1:54 We should not forget: the two things which are completed or updated stand there for a year. The system of the holy Roman Empire is as the legendary Detrooper wrote- bugged to hell. Since the video of the crusades, no other video got remade. About settlements or shipds-we should not speak. With all that, I dont want to be pessimistic, but keep in mind that it will take years until the many bugs are dealt with. My personal hope is that the made is mostly finished at 2030. When its finished, I doubt that CA will something nearly as fleshed out and optimized as this mod!

Ooooh, a new Ulus, Ulus of Chagatai. And with the Khwarezim probably getting some more cities, and the rest of the Iranian Plateau, 3 Mongol factions could make for a really interesting time over there. Makes a Mongol civil war way, way more likely.

Attila is the most enjoyable Total War (vanilla) I ever played. The mechanics and campaign strategy are S tier. Now we're getting a campaign edit tool. It's just a shame that CA never took the time to optimize it. Mods like Ancient Empires are so hard to enjoy because of the optimization issues. That's the only problem that prevents it from being one of if not the best TW title(s), in my opinion.

I hope they do something about the port problem, as in land locked cities that have a coastline but no port. It is a serious problem and breaks the realism for me. I also hope that they create more minor "towns" that you can invest in but they just bring in tax and food.
