To be perfectly clear I haven't played the game yet, I don't know if it's fun or not, if it's worth $60 or not, but as a long time and currently avid Historical Total War player I have watched all of the footage and gameplay so far, I've read all of the material on the game so far and I am simply not impressed. Maybe I'm being too harsh, and genuinely hope I'm wrong, and despite a ton of missing features and cultures I really hope Pharaoh is actually a decent enough Historical game. But I now seriously doubt it.

We have been given tons of material to look at, we are no fools, we can now discern very well what the game is gonna feel like and it is already something most will skip.

@@kingarthur7250 You wont get total war back my friend. Your med3, shogun3, empire 2 etc will be like rome 2, like warhammer, like 3k and like Pharoah. This is the direction they chose for the franchise becouse it appeals to a wider consumer audience. Hoaping they will go back to when the games were good is ignoring how CA communicated what they think about their playerbase (like the fact that history is too boring and not exiting compared to warhammer for a total war game) and how total war has been doing for the past decade.

How can you forget feedback from one game to another? LIke "oh we hear you want to be able to trade citires, sure I hear you" and then you remove naval or dumb down diplomacy... WTF

@@azoniarnl3362 Well, most Paradox games are super broad and "realistic" by the historic names and features used, but usually shallow and repetitive when it comes to the way of thinking needed to play and win... I generally prefer Civilization (V or IV), they seem simpler or more "gamey" in terms of the number of elements, but actually do require making tough decisions, carefully weighing different options for expansion, avoiding unnecessary wars, etc. Any of those is deprived of battles RTS, anyway... And for a pretty deep simulation of ancient strategy, you might check out Aggressors: Ancient Rome for instance...

And of course, most of us are hoping for either Medieval 3 or Empire 2 next, but neither of those will work if CA is just looking to phone in another half-assed product....they need an all-hands-on-deck, genre-pushing effort to be the games that fans want. Can I also say how I hate that we no longer get differing starting positions in newer total wars? All factions start with 1-2 settlements, a small army, or they're a horde faction. In the case of Three Kingdoms this made some sense, as China was facing great decentralization at the time, but supposedly this game begins at the apex of the bronze age, before the collapse. The starting factions should be sprawling empires, it should be a sort of Attilla experience. Imagine playing as Dynastic Egypt and starting with an immense empire, sprawling from Lybia to Syria to Ethiopia, with massive armies and loads of money, and see it all decline over the following turns as natural disasters and conflicts begin to take their toll. Very powerful but costly professional armies of chariots become harder to replace. Then the sea people arrive, and it's a gruelling war of attrition as your elite armies are slowly destroyed, knowledge is lost and you have to rely on simpler technology and military units:, you pass your turns trying to barely survive the collapse - now that would be an experience. But if you do manage to survive the apocalypse, then the world is your oister.

I love the time period and I love the beauty of the map and the battle maps. I love both historical and fantasy Total Wars. I really liked Troy and I'm glad this game looks like it aesthetically. The map is big if the number of settlements are the same as Rome 2. I think it lovely to see this area in such detail. However, I'm very disappointed by the fact that Mesopotamia and Greece/Western Anatolia are probably gonna be available as dlc. The map even if big feels incomplete and we are gonna end up paying at least 100€ to get the full experience of the game. This is such obvious corporal greed, especially comparing to what old total war titles were offering for less money.

Booted up Rome Remastered for rhe first time in a while and jumped into a custom battle to check the units out. I'd been zoomed in for a bit and when i zoomed out the enemy cavalry had flanked and killed all my archers and backline troops. Junped into another with a phalanx wall, as the enemy saw my line they immediately went to overload one flank and forced me to pivot and manoeuvre the line. This was all so incredibly refreshing after playing the latest Total War games, I'd forgotten what it's meant to be like.

Man hearing about dynamic weathers makes me wish for the day we get Medieval 3 and mid fight with soldiers clunking around in there heavy armor a storm rolls in and bogs the ground. I wish they stopped with releasing a new game every year and spent multiple years making games the fans are asking for. The problem with these yearly releases is that they just abandon them after a year. Three kingdoms was actually good but they abandoned it. Troy they decided to go epic only for the first year killing of the majority it's playerbase despite the game imo being pretty decent like goddamn that world map was a step in the right direction but now abandoned entirely. Thrones was something I wanted for years but they did it in every wrong way possible and abandoned it instantly. I love the warhammer series honestly the best sandbox experience I've had but they're now killing it with there overpriced dlc. I know I'm ranting now but it's sad to see this happen to a game series I've invested so much of my life in.

@@kapitankapital6580 yeah dynamic weather has been but it has only been a cosmetic thing for the most part or had very rudimentary changes like to arrows if it was foggy. Games companies got stuck in a wrong mindset when it comes to selling their games a long time ago, I think the issue started with the habit of calling customers fans or a gamers, there is an inherent assumption that a fan will spend money on a series they love regardless so why put in the effort, or listen to feedback or make any effort to engage. This worked well enough for a while, gamers ate a lot of shit, but now its coming round to bite them in the ass, there are a lot of other games out there and if they dont compete or give the customer what they want they can and will go elsewhere
@darkprometheus
@darkprometheus Жыл бұрын
Nah i think it has more to do with the culture now at gaming companies. many companies take the path of least resistance and less money which means reusing as much of their previous assets and mechanics as possible instead of developing new ones. The prime example of this is Assassin's Creed.

The thing about giving the game a "chance" is that you are ultimatly giving the corps what they want, your money (and if you cant refund the game even better for them), and thats all they care, they dont care about bad reviews as long as peple keep buying their games (and get dessapointed later by how this games are). By the time you leave your bad review, the corps already have the money in their pockets. It's better to just not buy it at all and just ignore it, so in that way they don't get money

To be fair, the Minoans were a VERY minor faction compared to Egypt at its peak. Pharaoh is an Egypt-centric game. Just the fact that they are including a good chunk of the Eastern Mediterranean makes me happy. That being said, the lack of Assyria is a major let down. If they do introduce major DLC's or expansions, I hope they include Assyria, Babylon, and Elam.

When they said the game would be about the Bronze Age Collapse, I never for a moment thought that Creative Assembly would put out a game with actual game mechanics that could properly represent the economic disruption and resulting civilizational decline caused by the breakdown of trade networks in the area. But to not even have a trade system on the level of Empire TW? Damn, that's failing even my already-low expectations. A proper Bronze Age Collapse game should have game mechanics that result in organic transition into the Iron Age, with iron being something that's available from the start but not worth it until bronze becomes unviable due to the disruption of trade in tin and copper.

It's comical how this comes out more than 10 years after Rome 2 and yet has less content than an underwhelming expansion pack for a historical title 10-15 years ago would have had. Creative Assembly clearly lost most of their best people years ago...or maybe decades ago. They really haven't pushed the envelope on anything since Rome 2 over a decade ago, and that had its own fair share of issues which were really never resolved whatsoever in following titles. Hell, titles like Warhammer actually removed naval battles and had vastly worse siege battles than Rome 2...for some unknown reason.

I get that these kingdoms are the biggest and most prominent in our record of the Bronze Age at this time but the map and factions could be expanded WAAAY more. We know of the Bronze Age cultures in Eastern, western and Northern Europe and facsimiles of these groups could be added. I’m sure there’s plenty of info for subsaharan Africa at this time too. Expanding the scope of the game in this way would do wonders to remove the “saga” feel from this game.
