I used to be vehemently against the digital future but honestly once you make the switch you wonder why you were ever against it. Changing discs is now a pain in the arse that I'd rather do without. I recently signed in to an old account on a new console and was sadge to not have any games to download on it because I'd sold the discs loooong ago. The future is now old man.

The "cloud hybrid" gaming actually seems like it could be interesting. From what I could gather, it's not the same as the laggy, low resolution gaming we've all experienced. It seems the main goal is to utilize machine learning from the cloud, while the console is processing the game/graphics. With Microsoft's massive investment in OpenAI (ChatGPT), I can picture them using the chatbot to generate dialog for Elder Scrolls 6 (similar to the mod that adds ChatGPT to the Matrix Awakens Demo). Being able to have in depth conversations with every NPC in Elder Scrolls would be pretty crazy. The Series consoles' GPU's are nowhere near powerful enough to run that powerful of a language model, especially while gaming, so that'll be streamed in from the cloud.

The best feature of Xbox controllers is that they use AA batteries. Get a 4-pack of rechargable ones from a reputable manufacturer along with a charger, they will last you many years. And you can use them on any other AA compatible device around your house. This is simply the best controller battery solution that exists so far.

The more they move to digital gaming the more they can charge in the future and own the rights to that game. Theyll be able to shut it down without your permission. The day that happens will be the day gaming dies for many. These companies get too greedy eventually killing gaming and going bankrupt.

True. Digital prices rarely go down these days. Games like Demon Souls, Spider-man Miles Morales etc are still 80 euro in my Region. While the disc version is as low as 20. I recently Got RE4 Remake on disc for 30. it was the steelbook Edition. Even with the current Sale going on all Platforms, I still paid less.

You first mention "Hybrid Computing" at 4:05. They're talking about hybrid computing with local hardware/cloud not a hybrid Xbox / Personal Computer. Then you talk about Hybrid Xbox/Cloud at 11:40. But, I don't think it means what you think. By "Hybrid Game Platform" I think they're talking about letting you choose to run on local hardware OR run on cloud. So next gen, the Series X equivalent will likely be the same as usual. But, the lower power model would be replaced by an Xbox TV stick. And the stick would be a hybrid cloud device. Handling controller connections, wifi, and maybe some video processing. While the game runs on a cloud server. And the console would be "forward compatible" in that, after the generation ends you could use it as a cloud device for the next generation. Also yeah, that whole "entirely new experiences" bit, is referring to stuff like MS flight simulator. But, I don't think that's becoming common anytime soon.

You may be right but if there is even room for confusion as to what a gaming console is supposed to do: off and online gaming on local hardware, I think the manufacturer is heading down a more modern road of what we saw with kinect on 360 and TV set top box feature on the Xbox One. Trying to make console something they aren't: computers, cloud streaming systems, etc. You can cloud game on a cell phone or tablet, and you can compute on a computer. Just let these plastic boxes play casual games in the living room like they've been designed to do since the 70's.

Im gonna speak on this issue of A disc less console as a gamer from a 3rd world country. I would 100% would buy the 2TB Discless Xbox Series X. I dont like the design tho but Disc games are absurdly expensive here (Kenya) Inertial Drift Twilight Rivals would cost me 8500 Kenyan Shillings here which is about as much as I make in a week/2 weeks at times. I bought the game on my Xbox One for about $7 which is about 800 kenyan shillings years ago. PS3 games still cost around $50 here which is absurd. And its not like there are GameStop shops here. If I wanna play a game that isnt mainstream (FIFA, MK, COD, Battlefield etc) I can forget it. Its hard even finding a physical copy of any Final Fantasy over here. To which even if I found one, im pretty sure it would be around 8500 Kenyan shillings ($70) Gamepass costs me around 700 shillings per month ($5) here which is a steal and I discover games I enjoy which im sure I couldnt play otherwise since all I do is play 3 games on Rotation in my steam library.

@@GamerHeavenOfficial Yeah Digital is the only option for me to go at this point. And its the option for people who play lots of Indie and AA games since most of the time they lack physical releases. Also Xbox has sales almost everyday on their store. Some games are sold for basically throwaway prices. I bought Deep Rock Galactic at Ksh. 92 which is around $0.42!

Look at the specs of the mid-gen refresh units, they're not computing _upgrades_ at all, they're the same thing in a new package; this is via other documents, not the slides themselves. Microsoft is taking the disc/digital route that Sony did, though not using the same base chassis. The only upgrade of note is the storage it comes with, at least on the X. Radios (WiFi and BT) and PSU updates are negligable, as per usual. The power draw might not indicate a die shrink, which is what we usually see with mid-gens, it's entirely possible this is using the exact same chip with a more efficient PSU. Microsoft pushing for an ARM-based console is potentially huge. Handhelds, and let's be honest any PC that isn't a workstation, would benefit from ARM's efficiency, especially as x86 is limited in how much better it can become and ARM, or a successor such as RISC-V, really are the way forward. But the issue is, only Apple is developing a chip for the PC space, Intel and AMD aren't yet interested in consumer ARM products (they have ARM elsewhere, such as AMD's enterprise servers), and handset chip manufacturers (Samsung, Qualcomm, etc.) aren't interested in producing anything higher tier; and to further this issue, Apple is now multiple generations ahead, we'll probably be on M5 before we even see the slightest amount of competition. Who knows, if we do get ARM consoles next generation, along with Apple proving PC viability, maybe ARM themselves will finally make a microarchitecture catered towards PC use, rather than Apple's method of scaling mobile microarches up to what a PC otherwise demands. Microsoft has also been trying to run ARM devices since the Surface originally launched, though Windows RT was trash and modern ARM variants of Windows aren't much better, but arguably this is expected as there's no competent hardware to run them and thus lack of proper development. Maybe Microsoft seeking an ARM console is the push the industry finally needs to actually start switching over. As for the new controller's gyro control, this could also be forward-compatible on older controllers, the expansion port is just a i2c link to the microcontroller, Microsoft could finally get use out it again since they discontinued all the first-party products that used it, and with how small IMUs can be it'd end up looking like one of those Logi 2.4GHz plugs. Haptics can be tuned to a controller, though not very well, I wouldn't be surprised if they're attempting distributed mode speakers, essentially using a coil as an exciter and the shell (in typical DMLs it's a flat panel) as the acoustic surface; if you remember the trend from 10-15 years ago of having a thing that could 'turn any surface into a speaker' via a suction cup or adhesive pad, this was a DML. As for the batteries, as long as they're swappable they should be next to no bullshit, though I'm honestly curious if the double-AA method was holding the controller back, at least in terms of battery life, let's be honest those store-bought cylindrical cells are dogshit compared to lithium cell energy density, lithium packs can also be better matched to what the device requires and I'm pretty sure the output of double AA cells was an inefficiency there as well; not to mention pack dimensions, so much more can be done when you're not constrained to the double-AA package size, which is also why a lot of rechargeable packs seem fairly lackluster on the One and Series controllers, it's just a bad dimensional requirement that hinders anything but the double-AA design. XDL also stands for Xbox Design Labs, they're basically saying $60 standard unit, $70 special unit, $80 limited unit, and $70-$110 XDL unit; though surprisingly no mentions of an Elite platform, I wonder if they're going the way that the Elite core did, where upgrades give you the elite, rather than running two separate controller platforms, this makes sense from the standpoints of sustainability and approachability, and having the 'pro' option as standard would be _really nice_ and might make 'pro' features more commonplace and hopefully lower prices for third party options now that they're no longer considered 'pro' features if the first-party standard unit has it. Also the 'Thin OS for sub-$99 devices' makes me wonder if Xbox is going to attempt to branch outside of just the console, besides the hybrid cloud bullshit. This makes me think of cheap, third party units running Xbox OS entirely, and the keyword is _devices, plural._ This also makes me wonder if they'll ship regular Xbox OS out to other devices, imagine Windows getting cut down and catered for just gaming, similar to Steam OS, imagine if there's an upgrade path from Xbox to Windows, imagine if the core console is just a hardware benchmark for other consoles, alla Steam Machines, and expanding the Xbox hardware into PC itself via the upgrade path from Xbox to Windows. It's a smart decision, Microsoft wants to be a software company, Microsoft doesn't want exclusivity these days, they essentially want to be a studio that sells you a software service, porting Xbox OS to all would be the next major step in doing this, and I think the 'Thin OS' for plural devices alludes to this. Imagine just being able to boot into Xbox on your PC without all the additional bullshit that comes with Windows itself; if I can also port my libraries from Steam and Epic, etc., this might very well be the best solution for PC gaming, it's Windows with all the bullshit cut out of it. You also have to keep in mind how old some of these slides are. They're not new in the slightest. Things will change, things have likely changed already. Gen 10 could be super, super interesting. Who knows, maybe Sony's new stupid little portable was them getting their toes wet for ideas that're more or less similar to what Microsoft is doing; either way Sony's Gen 10 will be similar to the next Xbox, because let's be realistic they're going to get the same exact chip like they are this generation, though I don't remember if Gen 8 had the same CPU or if they were just based on the Jaguar microarch. Hopefully Gen 10 will push the industry as a whole to do other things, hopefully speculation becomes reality by that point.

@@GamerHeavenOfficial yeah unfortunately not but if you emulate it on PC you can make it 60. It messes up a couple things but they're mostly minor (and DF did do a video on that too). Xbox is very strict with their FPS boost feature so if it messes up anything period it won't be implemented.

I haven't tried all cloud gaming, but I can say GeForce NOW is awesome at the ultimate tier. Maybe I'm close enough to a server and have a good enought internet connection, but I can't tell the difference even playing racing games or FPS.

My only comments are that having a fully disc less series x would be cool for the improved graphics over the series s and the fact that Microsoft’s game store routinely has sales on games makes this better option than PlayStation 5.

The Microsoft stores isn’t as offensive as the PSN for sure but I’d still prefer the option for physical media. Also removing the optical drive is separate from the power difference between the S and X. For example if the current series X didn’t have a disk drive and the current series S did have a disk drive (or they both did or didn’t) there would still be this performance difference between the two, the smaller one having 4 Tflop of graphical power and the big boy having 12. Unless you’re saying you have a Series S and are looking to upgrade to the new X when it comes out in which case I totally misunderstood your comment lol

The upfront cost of building a PC will be more but over time the cost of paying for games and online subscription services needed to play multiplayer with your buddies, yes a PC is a pretty viable option. Granted you can’t just hold onto a PC for seven years without upgrading components as it will stop being able to run modern Aaa games, so that can be comparable to buying the next console generation

I only mentioned it because I've seen a lot of people claim that Red Dead runs at 4k 60 on Xbox. It only upscales it to 4k. I just don't want people to get their hopes up like I did when they hear this.

I mean on the PC side of the house I still think Nvidia has a strong lead on AMD. DLSS vs FidelityFX, RTX vs AMD's raytracing equivalent, the NVENC part of the card for encoding great for streaming/youtube. I will say AMD has hella good contracts with all the console companies (and handheld PCs) because their APUs work very well with the current console architectures.

@GamerHeavenOfficial 100% agree with that. I just mean the consoles this gen and next get and handhelds like steamdeck and rog ally all using amd. I personally highly prefer nvidia (RIP EVGA) but they are definitely starting to price out people on a budget.

I don't want any of those new features in the xbox controller. I hate the extra garbage weighing down the dual sense & draining the battery and being charged more for it. All they need to do is add back paddles to the stock model and it'd be perfect.

If a sunspot corona ejection knocks out satellites, not to mention enemies shooting down satellites, will completely obliterates current online usage of such services, which will completely make online gaming, pc and console gaming totally useless, for these new online only services /Game pass P/S Now and the lot. Always buy hardcopy games and non-live service games when possible. When hard copy games are no longer available you have to worry.

Well it's the same price because obviously it has a larger 2TB SSD in it. Remove the disc drive and add on a 2TB SSD. That's 1TB more than the current X of course. So that's why Microsoft is making it the same $500. Lose the disc drive but gain installment area with 2TB SSD. So you need to think that again. Everything adds back up because of the larger inernal drive.

Now if only that extra 1000Gb of storage could save me hundreds throughout ownership of the console. Also wanted to quickly mention I have an 5 year old 2 TB external hard drive connected to my Xbox which stores all my old games and apps, and my modern AAA's go on the internal which I shouldn't need more than a TB, if so I will do what console gamers have bene doing for decades and delete/move games I'm not playing to make room for the new hotness.
