The elevation was tough when I hiked there. 21 miles in one day is definitely challenging.

Beautiful scenery on this trip! I think that you are brave for taking on that much mileage at altitude, it's no joke for us Flatlanders.

My son and I did this hike last fall and finished with summiting Cloud Peak. Beautiful country. The altitude for a Midwesterner is a killer. We started at Tensleep Lake and delayed the hike a day to acclimate, Please come to the Yellow River Hang in Iowa the last weekend of October. Rob Pelton and Jon (Ontrail82) are regulars.

I have a cabin 3 mi from canada in northern mn, and the bugs there ar times can get REALLY bad, but ive yet to ever see skeeters like i found last year in cloud peak. Took tensleep trailhead ip to mistympon lake, then up to summit cloud peak the next day we hit prime hatch. I wish i had bug spray for that one. Omg...

I've backpacked in the Cloud Peak Wilderness a couple times. Not done the whole loop, but know where Geneva Lake is. The best part is yet to come.

I was just on the same trail that you started on two weeks ago for a short overnight trip. I hope to do the full loop next summer. Thank you for the great video covering what is out there.

Yeah, I just went up to some similar elevations. There's really just no way to train for it. You have to pace yourself when you get there. Good luck, brother. Cheers!

Wow - altitude + smoke makes for a rough go. The scenery is beautiful, though!

When you consider the elevation you came from in Minnesota and then coming to high elevations of the big horns think you’re doing great! Also, the trail not being so well defined at times slows you down. Two days, almost 40 miles I would take that it and run with it. Lol :-) great video beautiful scenery. Thank you for sharing.

Good stuff, now when someone from the midwest says the mosquitos are bad, you can take that to the bank!

Don't tell me I've never smelled a mountain breeze! The best is when you crap on a mountain and you don't NEED the air freshener. Well done brother!

I think the killer for me as a mn resudent everytime i go to ckoup peak wilderness area is dehydration and altitude sickness. You stay "cool" up there so well you dont drink nearly emough, and being a flatlander my body literakly stops digesting food at about 10k feet. Always feel like youre carrying 10extra lbs of poop around, but after 20 or so trips ive adjusted to rehydration salts, and a few pieces of diabetic candies. Fixes both problems.
