One of the best gunsmiths in the world is my neighbor, just some critiques. One always use a go and no go gauge. 2 the action wrench has a cut for the ejector not for the bolt release. 3 always remove your extractor as the hardness of the gauges will not allow the extractor to cam over as it will on brass, thus potentially snapping your extractor off. Zermatt should have this on their certification card they sent with your action. Just for some clarification for the future. I’m about to do a 6arc in the same action next week so figured I’d weigh in on this for you for future barrels.

This was nice, glad I ran into it. I’ve been wanting an Origin since last year. About to make the move. Also will be going with PBB as well. Love helping out the start up companies.

They’ve been around for a while I believe under another company, then kinda branches out under the umbrella of the other company if I’m not mistaken. Match grade machining I think is the parent company. Absolutely love my origin!

I just stumbled on to your videos. Pleasant indeed. Be careful with assembly. I don't know the rules, but I have seen a number of gun guys getting strikes for how to's on gun stuff. One recently for just swapping optics (without instruction) on a video he made three years ago.
@ShootingTheBC Жыл бұрын
I need to look more closely at the rules, but I would bet this video violates something.

@Tremor 3 Guy Ya do. I hope to see more of your work. I am severely lacking in bolt action knowledge as well as rifles. I have a shotgun and a revolver standing in between me and my first bolt action. All three high on my list. I wish Aero had come out with this sooner. I love their products, love to build, and honestly may have an excessive number of ARs as a result. I am no good at selling one to get the next, so I have to move fluidly down the line of needs and desires.

I’ve been considering building my own with a carbon wrapped barrel but I was concerned about damaging it in the vise. There’s enough shank on the barrel for that vise to clamp down on without clamping down on the cf part of the barrel?
@ShootingTheBC8 ай бұрын
Different carbon barrels have different lengths of shanks by the breach end. This one has plenty of length that all of it fits in the vice. You would definitely want to be careful with a barrel that didn’t have as long of a shank, but I think it’s still fine.

Kind of late, but your not supposed to leave the extractor installed on the bolt when using hardened go / no-go gauges - it's on the card shipped with your action from zermatt.
@volanteaggie2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t see that on my card, haven’t had any issues luckily but I’ll keep that in mind for the future! Thanks!
@ErikWalker493 Жыл бұрын
Can you slip the no go gauge under the extractor before feeding it in? I read they tell you to do that so the extractor doesn’t hit the rim of the gauge. But I’ve seen other videos where people leave it in. But they slide the gauge under the extractor and are fine. Dunno if that’s accurate though.

Why? I have been doing it with Mausers, Winchesters, and Rems for 20 years and nail the headspace everytime?

If the go guage is slightly tighter to close vs an empty chamber is there anything to worry about?
@ShootingTheBC Жыл бұрын
If it closes, then it should be fine. As long as it’s not being forced. Now I’m not a gunsmith, but I would say if it’s not being forced to close, it’s ok if it’s a little more resistance than an empty chamber. If you’re concerned, have a gunsmith check it out!
@justinseeton5240 Жыл бұрын
@@ShootingTheBC it's not bad at all. I can just feel a slight difference with closing the go guage vs an empty chamber
@ShootingTheBC Жыл бұрын
That’s typical even with ammo. As long as your not forcing it. That would be considered a tight chamber and desirable by many.

@ShootingTheBC awesome! Good to know! Yes I got my barrel specialized for 143 grain 6.5 cm. When I put 140 grain soft points in it its actually smoother👍🏼 but I'm going to shoot it this weekend and see how it does. Thanks for the tips I'm way more confident now lol

you don't need to protect the barrel with ALUMINUM on steel (that's the point) and like someone else said, don't use a torque wrench to break a threaded barrel.
@spudboyQ Жыл бұрын
The finish is not steel. Kind of his point.

What can you adjust if the bolt closes with the no-go gauge? Or similarly to adjust the headspace to match your formed brass?
@volanteaggie2 жыл бұрын
You cannot adjust headspace. If it closes on the no go gauge you have to send the barrel back. You can adjust your brass by a couple thousands depending on your reloading dies. Of your brass doesn’t fit then you need to send the barrel back.

Did you need to remove the extractor to use the action wrench?
@volanteaggie2 жыл бұрын
No, the extractor is on the bolt. You take the bolt out. Zermatt sells a wrench with a slot cut for the bolt catch on the side. Other wrenches may or may not require removing the bolt catch from the action body.
@iggynator3212 жыл бұрын
@@volanteaggie it's not the bolt catch that is stopping the wrench from going in, it's the controlled round feed ejector thats inside the action. The wrench I have is from PMA and has the slot cut into it.

I have a Bighorn origin long action on order and was wondering if i could spin the barrel off thats on my trued rem 700 28 nosler build and put it on the bighorn action? or am i way off? I do plan on buying a preferred barrel also.
@ShootingTheBC3 жыл бұрын
No that will not work. The thread patterns are different so it won’t even thread on. The origin is the savage thread pattern, besides that, only recently have actions been made to tight enough tolerances that barrels can be used on the same model of actions, and only high end actions not factory ones
