Damn Hard Landing! 😳

We’ve caught tons of heavy landings at London Heathrow. Usually as a result of ground effect, thermal activity or crosswinds. But other times, and I have to say, the Freight Dogs, can be known to just ‘drop it like it’s hot’.
In this instance, landing on Rwy 27L during windy conditions, it seems this DHL A300F was hit by a sudden vertical wind sheer .
As I’ve said before, the resilience of these Jets is something else! Both the airframe and the undercarriage assemblies themselves. This thing can have a max landing weight of 140 tons, so that’s some weight and stresses coming down on the mains.
Watch as the Oleo compresses and literally ‘Chucks’ the whole aircraft back in the air from the forces of the rebound extension.
Nothing out of the ordinary for a Freight Dog though, everything goes ahead as normal: Spoilers up, nose wheel down and a kick of rudder.
But you’ve got to agree, that’s a quality save.

He was in a crosswind crabbed right, w/power on, at 00:22 it just dropped, shear? The speed breaks came on full then, not much he could do? Just guessing he came in a little hot do to the wind, no going around at that point. Could have been full of cargo to. Passengers would have gotten a little ride LOL 8)

Possibly A) the all up weight of the aircraft was light or B) the pilot flying was applying too much back pressure on the stick? C) first or slightly inexperienced 1st officer landing? approach and over the threshold looked well stable......we have arrived....no drama!!!

Can anyone explain why a lot of flaps were used? The runway length at LHR is long enough and I thought with cross winds you want to mantain a faster speed for more control - excessive flaps induces more drag slowing the aircraft right?

It's not that you want to fly at a higher speed with partial flaps in crosswind condition. It's when the wind is extemely gusty, changing in intensity, when pilots select the option to set less flaps and appropach at a higher speed to have a higher kinetic energy to recover from a sudden airspeed loss due to decreasing headwind component.

A lot of unnecessary hysteria here. The aircraft visibly suffered from sink immediately prior to flair which the pilots had no time to effectively react to. They raised the nose but there wasn’t the height left to smooth the landing. No danger, no damage, business as usual.
