I had a feeling this was a bug. I'd imagine one of his co-ordinates was right but the other was too far down. Ah, so that note is only on SF. Apparently FireLizard is responsible for that, even though I don't think they did Thracia's translation. (They did the initial FE6 and the Hasha no Tsurugi manga, and no offense to them but the latter is VERY dated to go back to) And I remember hearing that justification, that these are more "arrowslits" than murder holes. (I mainly know Murder Holes via the Age of Empires 2 upgrade allowing castles to fire on units directly below them, which is supposed to represent dropping rocks but due to graphical limitations it's shown as the castle shooting arrows downwards.) 14:30 I figured it was something like that, and also figured that the enemy HP growth was much higher than for players. Weird that some bosses have fixed stats and others are randomized, though. 25:00 Makes sense, but still doesn't explain Safy in Ch 9.

Engage providing the solution to a debate from Thracia 776 is NOT what I would`ve expected. That scene of Olwen being trapped in acell with all these scared children is incredible. Seeing her confronted with the horrors the empire has commited and her world unraveling itself is just so good. And the way she tries to comfort the little girl pleading for Olwen to take them home. It is just so incredible. 4:41 In case it wasn`t clear Kemph is an asshole already. 10:34 That is really weird. Fred being a solid, yet boring unit seems to fit. His character seems simple, but it works. Man, FEH Dire Thunder is so different from Thracia Dire Thunder, taking away the ability to miss changes so much. Olwen still seems like a strong unit with those weaknesses though.

15:45 So Oltoph is level 8, which means he can gain a maximum of 7 stats at random, and the game does use autolevels as you might expect (with a few generic patterns rather than using individual growth rates). The other thing you wouldn't realize is that FE5 will add on a flat random number from 0-3 to each stat after autolevels, so that's why his total stat variance ranges up to 10 (7 + 3) from each class base. An enemy gaining a movement point is also a raw 10% chance. I learned this from the FE5 tidbits thread on feuniverse.

I think it’s neat that in Thracia, unit affiliations are reflected in their banner on the combat forecast during battle. Which I only noticed because Fred is considered a “Friege” unit before recruiting Olwen. So when he fights the soldiers, they both have the lightning banner; instead of the lance banner that Lief’s army has.

Thracia’s cast of characters is growing on me more as this series goes on. I had almost forgotten that they weren’t a bunch of nobodies, like in Shadow Dragon. It’s not often many modern Fire emblems where so many of the characters get multiple chapters to develop outside of support conversations. I’d be all for the series going back to this kind of formula. But it’d probably be a bit trickier to implement that it sounds. 🤔 50:30 Also, Oops…

-Hey, thanks Engage for referencing this chapter! -I certainly didn't expect Brighton to spawn in that spot, but now this makes me think it could be a cool strat to let someone with a powerful Prf get captured so they can wreak havoc in the boss area right away! I'm assuming your previous attempt put him in the prison cell, I wonder what caused his spawn point to change and if it could be fixed with a patch update. -Definitely not cool that the boss can snipe the escaping kids with his siege tomes :( -I always assumed enemies were given low single-digit mov growth just like our own units, but I have no idea about the details of it. I've even seen ballisticians with 1 mov, but they don't ever use it. Since there are so many enemies in the game, it really makes you check for the extra mov units in key situations. -Brighton being capture bait is pretty cool actually...although I suspect that armor knight didn't have enough Con to grab him. -Fred showing off his crit moves for Olwen! You go, caped hero savior! -Boss being incredibly helpful wasting his turns on trying to heal our enemies and MISSING! -All those vigor star procs worked out really nicely. -Olwen is such a cool story unit. I was going to give some thoughts on her, but you covered it nicely. I like having her use Wind tomes. -Wind tomes are too good, they had to make them D rank so non-wind mages can only use them on promotion lol. Kaga is oddly biased toward wind, with it having the best tomes in the Jugdral games, Tear Ring Saga (Sylpheed so good) and arguably Vestaria Saga too (effective against both flying units and cavalry, while other elemental tomes are only effective against a single enemy type). I haven't played Berwick Saga yet, but I'm willing to bet wind tomes are the best there too. -I definitely prefer the A route, but at least you can do some low-deployment flyer rescue stuff in the B route Sara recruitment chapter to get through it pretty quickly and easily. Chapter 17A is extremely dense with complex objectives, but I came to enjoy that over multiple plays while 17B is just one of the most boring maps in the game. At least there's some interesting story stuff going on there too. -Oops, sorry kids lmao! -Google translate tells me Friege means Free. Cool. But are they really free now that the Empire is dictating their actions?

13:26 LOL That tidbit about the Murder Holes was interesting trivia! I wanted to see as many of the bond convos as possible, but man, the amount of bond fragments you need is overwhelming. You’d have to do a lot of fishing which isn’t the most fun. I prioritized watching my favorite Engage characters with Byleth, Sigurd, Leif, Dimitri, Edelgard, and Claude since Three Houses and the Jugdral games are my favorites, but there’s still a lot I haven’t seen. Engage has a lot of extra stuff. I have one file that has like 350 hours where I spent time maxing the donations. I didn’t know that’s how you get the S Rank weapons that aren’t in the story?!? I was very surprised when I got them lol. I really like Olwen! She was a constant presence when I played Thracia. Her being able to use Bolting was very handy for the ballistas like you said and for Xavier’s recruitment map to get rid of some of the knights present in the room he’s in. I mean also she has really good weapons lol. She got a majority of her levels for me in Ch. 22. I picked the A route when I played Thracia for the sole purpose of the Sleep Swords. I managed to snag all of them and BOY did they help for the rest of the game. If I ever play the game again, I’ll probably just do the A route. I like how Olwen gets more spotlight in it. Ohhh and one of the recruits you get is really good imo. I have similar thoughts about Ishtar. That she knew Julius before Loptyr took over him. That’d be pretty sad! It’s kinda funny how her mother Hilda and Hilda from Three Houses are like TOTAL opposites lol. Oh also, Olwen’s VA fits her perfectly. She sounds just like she does in my head lol. I love when that happens. FF7 Remake and Rebirth are the same. The main cast’s VA’s do the characters perfectly. They all sound exactly like they do in my head lol.

0:17- Noted. Though I'm curious on what exactly got botched now. (50:35- Ah I see. Also in hindsight I should have seen that coming.) 0:36- The biggest lie of 2025. lol 2:34- Hi Brighton at the bottom. Nice (in an strange way) to see that to clear up the confusion on that one thing. 3:03- But you REALLY want to get to him since if you can snag his bolting, that will greatly help with the stockpile of them that you'll want for the chapters to come. 3:59- And something I learned recently too is that in French they're called Meurtrière, which I found interesting and if this game ever gets remade and Kempf keeps his "naming plans after parts of a castle" thing, I could see him telling the boss to conduct Operation Meurtrière since "Operation Murder Hole" sounds silly. 5:42- Wow, that's really neat Engage references this fight. 7:22- Please do. Besides his loot, this boss has one of the best release quotes so capture him. 9:17- I wouldn't say it's that odd since like other FE games, Thracia also has favorites for who gets screen time, but also Olwen effectively fills the "Minerva role" of a FE game by being an enemy soldier of higher standing who defects to our side. 11:58- On the note of this fail, DO NOT open Olwen's cell until the boss is dealt with. The boss will only attack her and the kids only once they're free. 25:07- Brighton maybe had too much con for that guy to capture him. 44:59- Olwne's an interesting unit. Over the years, I feel like she's become simultaneously the most over rated and under rated unit at the same time. Early on people put too much stock in her Dire Thunder combo since she needs a lot to get it going (including the vantage scroll which is a fun but expensive tech choice on her), but then people started to give her too much sh^^ because she needs some investment to get going and putting perhaps a bit too much stock in her "counterpart" despite the opportunity costs it takes to get them. As is, I think she's still a solid unit that you need to keep in mind on how to use properly to get the most milage of. She has A LOT going for her more than what her main draw that her fans and critics hyper focus on. Plus her being your first potential Bolting user is huge and is something I HIGHLY recommend people to use her for and grind her Thunder Rank to max before Chapter 14. Also something funny I've heard is people liking her sword rank since she can use killing edges at base, which sounds funny, but one thing I've always wanted to try with her but never had the time and resources is to see how well she could do with magic swords since that sounds like a silly option to do for a casual run. Fun unit. 46:19- And here's one of my favorite boss release quotes! Really like how we can not only spare a guy sent on a certain death mission by Kempf, but the fact he actually reevaluates the Rebel Army and is thankful for being spared adds a lot to a one off character. Like I said last time, Thracia's minor villain cast is great, but it isn't just for the pure villain types as more sympathetic bosses can leave an impact on you like this guy. 48:00- A shock and shame for me at least. In hindsight I should have seen it coming since you're one of the best LPers for showing things often dismissed/not shown by most people, though for most people playing through Thracia, I can not stress enough to do A Route over B since the advantage it gives you really helps and opens up a lot for the post split maps. 50:27- And despite how silly and super RNG dependent that thing is, I still highly recommend for most people playing through Thracia to attempt to do it to not only make Chapter 12 easier, but to also ensure you get a VERY important tool in mint condition as well. 53:08- Fairly sure it is a politically arranged marriage or rather I'm fairly sure that's outright stated. I think in one of the maps in FE4 after Ishtar recovers from her fight in Chapter 8 that it's mentioned that it is, but I forget when it happens and wonder if that's a false memory because I'm struggling to remember when. 53:41- Also LOVE that entire after battle conversation with August, Dorias, and Olwen. Love the first real dispute the two advisors have, how it begins to deconstruct the image of Reinhardt that's been built up before, and August's words to Olwen to watch and see the reality of the world. All of it's great. In other news, making more progress in Reboot Camp. Did the first half and lab mission of Gold Comet, so now onto the latter half.

@jaredfayette2567 That is what I predicted would happen as well. Don't know why he ended up there and not in the jail cells but at least it isn't that hard to get him back. I normally have difficulties getting that Bolting intact since I also want the Wind tomes from the mages in that room. At least there are other ways to get Bolting before Chapter 14. That does sound like a better name. Engage can have some really cool references to past games with dialogue like that. That was the norm with how Fire Emblem was back in the day since while there aren't that many characters that get a lot of dialogue, some characters end up getting a decent amount. That was some pretty old advice so I am surprised Klingy didn't know about it. I think regardless of what Olwen's fate ends up being, you really want her to use Bolting since even if you kill her off later, that is going to be a big help for Chapter 14 and then everything else is up to. I am not sure if she is the best unit to give Vantage but giving it to her makes her feel like a Life and Death unit in Fates sometimes which is somewhat entertaining. Using swords with her sounds fun especially if you grow her stats to get to reliably double with that high PCC and she might be one of your most powerful units with the Flame Sword or any magic sword although her A route counterpart is not too shabby with them either and starts with A rank. Olwen is an unit I am overall positive on especially after I learnt something very funny you can do with her at the end of Chapter 14. This boss really makes you want to see what other release quotes the other bosses have. I can see some appeal to B route now that I have actually played, mainly because of what I did in 17B, but A route does feel like the overall better route even still since you do miss out on a lot going B route and the maps feel less satisfying to play overall. I don't want to imagine playing through Chapter 12 without Warp. If that dialogue does exist, it might be in Chapter 10, but whether it exists or not, it is pretty clear to infer that it was a politically arranged marriage. You get a really good idea of the thought process between the two tacticians with that dialogue. Good work getting through Gold Comet and hope that second half also goes well. The factory will be interesting since it was probably the hardest S rank for me to figure out. As for myself, just a bit more progress with Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment and my brother made a lot of progress with Chapter 17 in the FF7 remake so he must be close to completing it.

@@BerserkerRohan Well at least one of us had the foresight to call what the blunder was. Yeah, it's odd that he wasn't put into a cell. At least Klingy has shown rare footage about 11x that was kind of unconfirmed. I think I also try for getting the wind tomes if I can, but I usually make bolting a priority since getting more after this chapter becomes a bit harder and you want as many as you can get for later maps. That was a really nice reference and I appreciate the subtly to calling back to a previous game like that. True as well, though you still see that DNA in later FE games where characters are much more fleshed out (ex. Joshua in Sacred Stones, Jill in PoR, Virion in Awakening). On one hand true, but on the other it is admittedly something that is easy to forget. That's fair advice to those who really want the other guy, though I always felt bad considering that idea. Getting someone so they can die later is not an idea I can stomach as much in FE where I've come to expect that in Battle Brothers. Hence why I more said tech choice than an auto include for vantage, but that's the same idea like L&D of having a high risk, high reward unit with Dire Thunder plus vantage. Oh yeah, the other guy could use them too which helps his case for the magic swords, but I'd rather keep using Olwen instead. Also yeah, that funny thing in 14. That he does. I do see some legit advantages to B Route, but A Route is way too good to give up on the things it gets you. And yeah, B Route also just feels less satisfying as well. Neither do I. I could have sworn there was a scene like that in FE4, but I'll have to go back and check. But regardless, FE4 still sets up up as one even if it's never outright stated. That's also another thing that makes the talk work well is how it clearly shows off the minds of those two. Many thanks. And yeah, not looking forward to that Factory Mission since from what I remember of Klingy's LP, that is the hardest one to S Rank, even more so in Reboot Camp since this is the one mission where the generally better scoring system of having multiple COs under your control works (i.e currently active CO that ends the map gets graded instead of the "main" one only) REALLY backfires on the player and makes it suck. Well done to both you and your brother on your respective games.

@@jaredfayette2567 I could sense it because of my own experience. It was cool to see in action. Engage is really cool for referencing so obscure like that. Supports do help flesh out the whole cast so things still feel a bit different but those examples you gave are familiar. I also think if the AI can go for a kill, they will go for a kill. Using that other unit is something I want to do one day since they seem really strong but even for me who has a good idea of Olwen's trajectory if I were to do that will still really bad about killing her off. The balance does feel like it was tipped into the scales for the A route which is why it was the main route for my playthrough. I feel like there was too, around Chapter 10, but I can see it being a bit earlier too. That is one reason why I like the dynamic between those two. I think I do share my strategy for getting the S rank during that video but in your case, it would need to be tweaked for Reboot Camp.

(The FE unit, not the KZbinr) His Lightning Sword is basically the Brave Axe (It's not a Personal weapon essentially), so if you really want someone else to use it, like his soon-to-be wife, go right ahead. Also Fred... He Exists. I have nothing else to say other than he's alright and kind of boring. 41:57 Unlike her soon-to-be husband, Olwen actually has something going on. Her stat growths are actually good, she's one of the handful of characters with multiple Personal Weapons, 4 FCM, so what's there not to like? Well, thunder tomes have not god hit rates and are heavy and that's one of her personal weapons, Her starting stats aren't great, but are undeniably better than the Scrub Brigade (Also she isn't fighting 20+ enemies when you need to recruit her). Unrelated, but as a unit, she's kind of controversial in the FE community (I think).

Thjs was the chapter that completed my 180 turn on Tanya’s viable and usefulness. Her being a “strong” ranged attacker that didn’t immediately die made that infamous hallway a lot easier. And 1-2 options outside of personal weapons isn’t strong or are very limited. Again should you use a generally weak character for this one instance of possible usefulness? Extremely unlikely, but it happened to me, and boy was I pissed. Anyway, what's hilarious is that the convo happens normally, meaning Fred speaks to Olwen's ghost. This is a map that I feel would be a lot better were it not for the fog. Screw seige tomes on fog. I don't remember if there even are siehe tomes before this map.

The A route has a character who only joins if Olwen isn't recruited or dead, but it also has a chapter where Olwen can do something incredibly awesome...at the possible expense of her life. So I guess that's how you're "supposed" to get that other character? Can’t blame the initial interpretation on the chapter name as Katakana definitely has its flaws. Hole in Katakana is usually ホール and ホレス is quite different so the plural form isn’t something I’d call obvious.

As funny as the original dub of that line is, which I blame on poor acting direction and not entirely on Wayne Doster who voiced Zero in X4 both Lucas Gilbertson and Johnny Yong Bosch have done their own versions of that line which is so much better, Ryōtarō Okiayu did okay in the Japanese version but it still has that late 90s feel of early voice acting in video games where it's rough around the edges if that makes sense. My favorite version of the line is Johnny's version it just hits so perfectly plus Johnny was the first voice actor I heard voice Zero since I didn't play X8 until after I played MvC3 so for me Johnny will always be the perfect voice for Zero

So here is Murder Hollace: the H A L L W A Y O F D E A T H. A chapter which is quite simple and straightforward, just be careful of the long-range tomes. 50:30 OOF, the end of the chapter…..at least it was a good usage of Sonic the Werehogs death scream. I can think of several reasons to go B route despite the awful forest chapter. Fred: He feels like a Jeigan that showed up much later than normal. He’s got good weapon ranks, pretty good stats, but a late-ish join chapter and a FCM of 1. Still good and easily usable for now. Olwen: Here she is: Dire thunder the unit. Olwen definitely feels like a growth unit despite being a prepromote. She can function as a delete-one-enemy type of unit but she does need constant protection since Dire thunder is so heavy. Provided you think the investment is worth it. There is an A route exclusive character that I’ll discuss later but I’ll just say for now while they are a good unit I do think Olwen is overall better. Side note: if you did what I like to do back in chapter 10 and have Lithis/Lara steal her Dire Thunder tome, then you just got 2 dire thunder tomes to go nuts with.

So here’s a unless bit of trivia: The most complete Fan Translation of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 prior to Project Exile isn't particularly great, but the most infamous mistake, the title of Chapter 11x note, is unique in that it was the result of not recognising a mistake in the original Japanese. The translator misinterpreted a transposition error in this chapter's Japanese title, マーダーホレス ("Mādāhoresu"; a slightly botched attempt to transliterate "murder holes"), as the name of a Last Stand siege warfare tactic, leading to the utterly nonsensical and laughable Word Purée Title "Murder Hollace" - "hollace", of course, being a Perfectly Cromulent Word with no relation to any sort of siege warfare tactics, medieval or otherwise. In Project Exile, this chapter was renamed to "Balistrariae" because translators couldn't use this ridiculous title but didn't like "Murder Holes" either. As a result a whole paragraph was added for Kempf to explain what a Balistrariae is. However others translations like Lil’manster just called it “desperate grounds” to avoid using things like “Balistrariae” and still evoke that last stand feel. Such a fun saga. The Biggest twist? It’s not accurate murder holes! It would more accurate to call it “arrow Slits” but no one on project exile liked the name so that’s how “Balistrariae” was picked.

Strangely, I’ve always been a fan of using the Vantage Manual on Olwen. Her biggest weakness is her quickness, so Vantage immediately remedies this. And, with her PRF, she’s bound to eliminate her targets. Just throw the Magic Ring on her from next chapter. Perfection.

Unit review: Fred: He’s good. A decent prepromote given to you with solid bases for Join. What holds him back is also the fact he is a prepromote and his exp gain is slower. 3.5/5 stars Olwen: I can understand why some folks think she’s slightly overrated(especially giving her vantage with dire Thunder’s base 70 hit rate and only okay skill). Her real strength lies in being able to use bolting which makes chapter 14 a lot easier and the chapter right before that is an easy way to grind her thunder rank. Really unlike Fred Olwen has just enough quirks to make her a good addition to your squad. 4/5 stars

*Unit Review* I really like Fred. Just goes to show despite all of Thracia's nutty mechanics and gimmicks all you need to be good is solid bases, a horse, and A rank swords. Works well as a filler unit for a shockingly long time and longterm you can make him work with his surprisingly passable growths and his perfect sword rank. Olwen meanwhile is a very gimmicky character. Subpar bases but relatively higher growths and a cool personal weapon. People like to run Vantage with her but if she ever misses she's probably just dead. The fact that she's directly competing with a really good unit doesn't help. On her own merits though, she's a passable unit just for a horse and tomes.

I looked up the Korean version of Kagetsu x Leif A just to see what it says, and turns out, it literally just says "murder holes", as in, not translated to Korean word, but literally wrote the pronunciation in to Korean. It turns out there is no Korean word for that term and so they just write the pronunciation. If the Korean wiki is right, though, apparently, the holes pronounced as "Horessu" (or something like that) is intended. It's says that they looked at the spelling and thought of a different pronunciation to make a pun of sorts... I can't say if this is true or not, though. 17:17 So, I forgot if you mentioned this or not in the previous video. Because Fred always comes with the Dire Thunder, if you managed to steal Dire Thunder from Olwen before, then you can have 2 copies of Dire Thunder. Have you mentioned this? I... can't remember, apologies.

This chapter I think having the FoW dosen’t do a whole lot of good for it and in fact I feel like in only makes sense in the archer hallway because it feels like there is daylight as this chapter is played. And yeah those kind of last second forgetful moments can happen, in my real first run of FE6, I ended up forgetting a treasure chest that you open in Chapter 7 in that game, and I suffered through that map again because of it. Fred: Sadly never saw the light of day all too much even if his sprite do be pretty badass with that cape. I also think given Fred’s design I would think of him more of a higher leveled unpromote than a prepromote. Olwen: She ended up getting a very bad short end of the stick in my playthrough because I didn’t use her that much for combat prior to the route split and she I think had PHYSICAL COMBAT going on (I thought getting her to the magic swords would have been real nice) which likely set a bad impression on me (This feels also combined with someone who I was in a Discord community with at one point glazing her up as an APRIL FOOLS joke) and her final nail was that because I did the A route unsure how popular the character you get in her place if you kill her off was as I went there, I did ultimately kill her off and get this certain A route character in thinking that this would make my playthough feel more unique.

That’s a very unfortunate last minute blunder at the end, but it was a good run besides that! I actually prefer the B route for a few reasons. The way you get to recruit a certain staff unit makes way more sense on this route, a character that shows up in both fe4 and in this game joins, and a third character gives more reason to a certain something happening later. Just being vague for spoiler reasons.
