Thank you for a great video Olga...I never know the correct way to prune hydrangeas and you've explained it very well. I leave the old flowers on to protect the new buds but always unsure of how much to prune. I have a couple of Panicled Lime lights and a Vanilla Fraise which is beautiful. I also have a big leaf which grows enormous but doesn't bloom much, now I know why! Happy gardening xx

Olga.. I love your blue Hydrangeas. And your videos are such a sweet visit among friends…. Have you considered extending your “stick fencing” in the area between your yard and the neighbors temporarily? At least until your beautiful Hydrangea becomes full grown. Continuing to pray for your friends and family in Ukraine.

We have that generic wooden rails fence between us and 2 neighbors. It is fine, rustic looking and is doing the job of defining our properties. One is ours and I am growing climbing roses on it. Another belong to my neighbor. I am itching to ask him if I can grow some climbing rose on his fence. I don't know... But thank you for watching! Hugs!

Beautiful hydrangeas. Love your accent. We just returned from a 5 day vacation. Hydrangeas are wilted and some of the hydrangea flowers have turned brownish. It apparently did not rain while we were out of town and the hydrangeas did not get watered. Is it possible to bring the hydrangea flowers back to life? Not sure what kind they are but they are pink.
@OlgaCarmody Жыл бұрын
I am afraid that your hydrangeas are done blooming for the year with those brown blooms. They can't be resurrected back to life. Make sure that your hydrangeas are well watered and they might surprise you with additional extra blooms. Good luck!

Hi Polly, unfortunately I don't have the name. I belive my husband brought those as display pot hydrangeas. They were not suppose to live as garden plants, but I took care of them and they lived. It was many years ago, now I don't know the name. Sorry.

I'm learning so much from you. Loved this video. I'm. In the UK and gave some mop head hydrangeas in pots. My white one seems quite scorched after our heat wave, its only its first year. Do all hydrangeas need shade? Fantastic garden you have xx
@OlgaCarmody3 жыл бұрын
Hi Davena, hydrangeas are known to have aggressive root system and can fill the pot pretty quick. Is your pot big? I mean 2 feet across? Also, if pot is not big, plant is stressed out and is susceptible to damage. Plus, white hydrangeas are not really drought tolerant. They need regular watering. Hope it helps.
@davenadainton42093 жыл бұрын
@@OlgaCarmody thank you. Yes the pot is twice as big as the plant and only got potted this year, I water twice a day in the heat trying to avoid the petals. I think the heavy sun got it as every bllom looks scorched. I'll try move it to a more shaded area. Thanks for the advice xxx

@@davenadainton4209 You are welcome!
@debrapolenz49622 жыл бұрын
@@davenadainton4209 In hot climates they like morning sun, afternoon shade. And they say to they like moist but with good drainage, yellow leaves might mean too much water, twice a day seems a lot. Funny, I rented a house with twin hydrangeas, might of been limelight as they were white and turned green then a blushy burgundy (light) when left on plant to die. But I hacked the hell out of them since they hung over the sidewalk, and your head, they heads were odd shaped and humongous. Like over afoot across. When it rained they would hang in walk and you would get soaked. I never watered, they were there already a long time, and did great, though no afternoon sun. It's hard to grow big plants in pots isn't it? Always gotta mess with watering and all kinds of stuff. lol. Good luck!

Your videos are wonderful Olga, so glad I came across them. Informative and very inspiring! Do you ever deal with chlorosis on your hydrangeas and if so how do you deal with it?
@OlgaCarmody3 жыл бұрын
Hi Helen, I never had to deal with chlorosis in my garden. But I know that foliage treatment with iron products is a quick but temporary solution. The best way would be a slow one: iron deficiency needs to be addressed in soil. It is slow to correct but you can purchase one of those iron products and see. Also check your soil, if the numbers are too alkaline or acidic, plants cant take nutrients in, including iron. Hope it helps.

Olya Love this Do you dead head the hydrangeas?
@OlgaCarmody3 жыл бұрын
The rule is to deadhead just after blooming time, since mophead hydrangeas bloom on old wood and in our area they are starting to form next year blooms early fall. I don't deadhead till next year leaves start to appear and I do very selective pruning then. My way is not a standard treatment of hydrangeas.
@debrapolenz49622 жыл бұрын
And that goes for any early spring bloomers like lilacs etc, they set buds in the fall for spring, this is why the weather changes etc are messing with the poor spring bloomers, they come out, then it freezes and then heat kills the blooms, really stinks. I have seen many lawn guys who don't know this and just trim everything back in spring.

All roses are different, some bloom once, twice, on old wood, on new wood, climb, bush, long stem, you have to choose when buying the type you want and if they are everblooming, You cannot make a twice blooming rose bloom all summer etc. Like any other plant they have their specific bloom times and schedules basically.
