petite question : est-ce que cette protection de feuilles tondues conviendrait aussi pour les rosiers (en pot et en terre) ? Merci beaucoup Olga ! Quick question: would this protection of shorn leaves also be suitable for roses (in pots and in the ground)? Thank you very much Olga!

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching your garden videos-they're so relaxing and inspiring. I’m particularly curious about the tree branches you use to create your fence. Could you please share what type of branches or wood you use? I’d love to try something similar for my own garden. Thank you so much, and I appreciate your time!
@OlgaCarmody2 күн бұрын
I use any tree branches I can put my hands on. Most of them are from my own garden. It takes time to build those wattle fences, but they are worth it. The most important thing is for the wood to be fresh, this way it will bend easy in your hands without snapping. Happy gardening!

Olga my husband has been mulching leaves on our property for years. I remove the fallen leaves from my planting beds and replace them with mulched leaves. They stay in place and create a warm blanket for plants and soil.

I am in zone 6b (Chicago). I have put my potted hybrid tea roses either in wooden half whiskey barrel containers (37 gal) or large plastic/resin 22 gallon containers. I plan to cut down my roses to 12-18 inch hight above the bud union, and cover the rose bush and their pots with breatheable frost cloths. They are all clustered close to my house in a sunny spot, on my concrete driveway. Do you think my potted roses (hybrid tea) will survive the winter in zone 6b, with this treatment? I have no room in the garage for 50-60 such pots.
@OlgaCarmody9 күн бұрын
Well, you just have to do your best at protecting your roses and see what happens. Put smaller pots in the middle and hurdle all of them tight together. I would run some black plastic around them, not on top though.
@argosaha93189 күн бұрын
@@OlgaCarmody my whiskey barrels containing Japanese maples survived ok, I assume the same for roses. I have not tested my resin planters (22 gal) yet with roses. Last Jan we had -10 F weather for a week

This time of year when they fall I rake them up before the lawn service comes to put pre emergent weed control for winter annual weeds. I used to put them in the border to break down in the sand to add some organic matter along with the compost but they are hard, don't absorb water and blow away. You've given a great idea, I'll give it a try!
@OlgaCarmody10 күн бұрын
Hi Marilyn, plus those leaves don’t decompose on the ground and spring comes and I still have to remove them. Happy gardening!

Olga, do we water roses in winter? Some people say not to, while others suggest watering if the soil gets dry. What’s your recommendation? Apologies for going off-topic from this video😁
@OlgaCarmody10 күн бұрын
No problem goin off topic. We have pretty rainy winters here in CT, so I never water roses in the ground during the cold season. If your roses are in containers outside, that is a different story. You will need to water if soil gets dry. Again, climates differ greatly. For example, we are suppose to slow down on watering right now, but since our weather is soooo dry for so many weeks here in New England, I am out with my hose on a regular basis, watering everything away. So, it all depends where you live....
@WednesdayCat88810 күн бұрын
@ Thank you, Olga, for your reply. I’m in Dallas, TX, where winters tend to be quite dry. Based on what you mentioned, I should water the roses if the soil becomes dry, correct? The key is to maintain moist soil year-round, right?
@OlgaCarmody10 күн бұрын
@@WednesdayCat888 Yes, correct, don’t let that soil get really dry. Happy gardening!

I love tulips and am always happy when they bloom 😊. I bought the queen of Sweden rose and I was going to plant it beside the Lady of shallot one about 2/3 ft apart. Do you think that would be okay?
@OlgaCarmody10 күн бұрын
Those two roses have such a different growth habit. LofS is round, QofS is tall and narrow. I am not sure how well they will play together. I guess you can try and move your rose later if you don't like how the combination looks....

Yes. I mow and them use them as mulch. Works a treat. I’m in Southbury, CT. Super dry here. I also have squill. Love it. Very nice. Maybe it could be improved by using lime mortar or a white cement, mixed with less uniform sand, meaning river sand, sand with tiny bits of stone, of different sizes, textures and colours, mixed in. The smooth grey look of cement is not ideal and kills the natural beaty of stone. The colour of the sand can also be experimented with, you can get yellow sand, grey sand, red sand etc
