Love the video but a suggestion for future spreadsheets: in the Columbus where you list each athletes heat and their placement in their heat, I think you should have color coding to for each group so it’s easier to visualize which heat is doing better or worse.

Top 3 guys in each group were the top 15. That's some even groups. Wsm got these right this year. The stone off jipped Williams, Foito, and Schoonwinkel, but they're all top 12 guys and those stone off wins do prove a point of strength. No complaints from me. Gutted for Bishop. I hope he heals up quickly. He was smashing it. Looking forward to the finals!

Fojtu was the only guy with an actual points lead within their group that lost out on the stones, so I'm a bit disappointed for him but like you said stones does show a point of strength, and for everyone else either 2nd place got through or 3rd place was within half a point and so I think it's fair as a tie breaker
@Klettnation
@Klettnation 17 күн бұрын
@bruuhhhh 100% I bring up schoonwinkle due to overall points being in top 10. But no physical way of him and derwinsky getting in. Pavlo would be the odd man out based on overall score. Again can't complain with this line up. Just fun to speculate.

Still can't believe Ondra Fojtu. He had a chance to win the group regardless of Mitch being unbelievable at the Car Walk. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. He settled for 2nd and he is OUT. Usain Blot lost races, didn't finish races and got disqualified. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. Very poor decision.

The stone off is ridiculous the way it is done now. I think the trouble is that it's a lot of logistics and setup to have on hand "just in case people tie". They would rather just keep it as it is logistically, but it's pretty dumb.

@@staceygram5555 I like the idea of qualifying events. You weed out the weaker athletes, so the top ten are legit. Not so much this year, but in previous years, there were some that made it through that were lesser athletes because they had a weaker group.

@edwardchester1
@edwardchester1 17 күн бұрын
@@staceygram5555 No, it's like a standard cut-off system. They've done it before in other strongman comps and other sports. Could either have it so you carry on with combined scores or reset for the final. Advantage would be you don't continue to have those not challenging for the top just taking up time on more and more events. Main disadvantage is that it's bad for TV. Can't do the multi-episode format that works so well with the heats.
@outlimboed
@outlimboed 17 күн бұрын
The final event of the heats should also count towards the final to force all the athletes to do it. They take the times of the 10 finalists and distribute 1-10 points which carry over to the final. If it's a fast event like a car walk, there's no real advantage to going last and you avoid having those dead rubber events that are still an issue even with the stone off.
@edwardchester1
@edwardchester1 17 күн бұрын
Good shout. The stone off has essentially not solved anything. Just added more controversy. Would much rather see any tactics and event skipping left to the last actual event, rather then one event earlier.

@Klettnation
@Klettnation 17 күн бұрын
I like where your heads at, but points carrying over seems over the top. Maybe the position on the final event determines the order for lifting to start the final? In this case the first guy to go in the giants medley is Evan, then Tom, and mitch, etc.
@bigaarmory100
@bigaarmory100 17 күн бұрын
I believe the groupings are outdated and do a disservice not only to the competitors but to the spectators. You have competitors that completely lay down at some of the events because they know they don’t need the points in their grouping, and you have other competitors that no matter what they do they will not garner the points needed in order to make it to the final so they also lay down. That is not the best way of picking the Worlds Strongest Man and is certainly not the best format for the spectators. If you want the competition to appear on television in a live format, or at worst a one day delay, then change the methodology wherein all athletes are competing against one another in the overall rankings in the preliminary events, and then your top 10 competitors from the overall rankings are the ones that go on to compete for Worlds Strongest Man. Just my two cents.

You both continue to produce the BEST Strongman content out there. You prove the point that there should not be heats and that WSM should get rid of the stone off and just do 6 events for the qualifiers. If the stone off has to stay, then it should only be used for determining 10th place if there is a tie. Anyone have a thought on this?

This shows how good the groups were balanced . Top 10 in reality all in the top 13 including the 3 who lost out in the stone off.IF I am reading it right. Also very clever of them to get the guys good at certain events in the same groups. Sad for Adam Bishop, that man never has any luck at WSM. So predictions for final? Very hard for us causal fans as I don’t have a lot of info for some of them. Mitch, Tom, Evan, Tristan, Matt, Pavlo, Luke, Aivars , Austin, Wesley. Luke gets 7 th place again? Top 2 fairly sure of but after that there should be some great battles Pavlo , Matt, Tristram, could change order. Thank you for making the WSM experience ( spread sheet ) enjoyable.

I'd love them to do this format for a future WSM, even if they do different waves of 6 athletes instead of groups but still have an overall leader board, and the waves change depending on how you scored on the previous event. Imagine how much more people would push if you knew an event win gave you 30 points. Nobody would take the foot off the gas and we could see big changes event to event as athletes showcase their strengths

I'd be interested in a comparison between this year's finalists, and finalists in previous years. I've seen a few comments saying that this is a weak year because there aren't many stars. My hunch is that the talent this year is strong, if you look at the numbers, and people are reacting because they don't recognize the names. But maybe I'm wrong.

I agree with you, and sometimes the realisation of how strong a final is comes with hindsight. We had an influx of new athletes in 2016 (and no Zydrunas) and people said the same thing then. The three new athletes in the 2016 final were kielsikowski, Martins, and Janashia… so no one would look back on that final now and consider it weaker.

If they want it to stay competitive in the groups, make the first "event" of the final their overall placement if all the groups were together. In this case, Mitch starts with 10 pts, Tristian with 9, Ragg with 8, Tom with 7, Evan with 6, etc. Tom and Evan wouldn't have pulled up because finals points were at stake, and no way was Mitch making a gentleman's agreement on the Webster Stones.
