I agree with Lonesome Dove, it was just outstanding. The way Duvall and Jones played off each other was classic.

Looks really good man! One little suggestion for a tiny detail is to stencil on, "Do Not Cleat Door", onto the door's. Apparently it was such a common problem for people to nail boxcar door's shut that the constant nailing and pulling would rapidly destroy them, hence why they were labeled as such. Most of our boxcars at the museum I volunteer at have those warnings in fact. I could easily see some seedy characters of the bandit canyon looking to protect their cargo even at the cost of eventually destroying railroad property. Kind-a paints a subtle backstory doesn't it?

I do like the camera over your left shoulder, Dave. It does make it easier to see your hands. Great build. I just learned a lot of stuff.

Dave - Outstanding as usual! Always love to see one of my Shays in action! Also agree about the roofwalk, looks cool, anyone up on top would tip the car over! I have 3 or 4 pages of On18 cars I did about 15 years ago when Barry and I got to talking about 18" freight car design, yell if want some more ideas. - Russ

Yes, you'd probably need to belly crawl on that roof walk!

I remeber readng somewhere...possibly the "narrow gauge and shortline gazette" that the WW1 trench railway boxcars were not used much as they were seen to bhe topheavy and were used mostly as stationary warehousing...and they ran on 60CM gauge..

Love all your projects, layouts and artwork. I would like to see more dry brushing and more rolling stock builds. You’re an amazing artist and modeler. You’ve definitely been an inspiration to me. In fact I will soon be starting my first On30 layout with my grandkids. Keep up the awesome work.

Great video, as usual. Definitely would be interested in a video on dry brushing. Also, for another future video, since you, like myself, use a fair amount of craft paints, would like to see as to how to best use them, particularly on plastics. Thank you for your great work in making these very informative videos.

Are you going to make a custom train for the layout? Like a train armored with scrap laying around.

I was wondering if you could possibly try a very old technique used on old HO scale Varney wooden car kits. this technique uses a layer of paper, with lettering on it, the paper is glued to the internal wall of the boxcar or reefer, and on the outside trusses are glued to the paper. it's a very old modeling technique but I'm sure you could go about updating this technique to make it look better. it's kinda hard to explain in text, easier to explain with a picture of those old Varney cars

Should not there be at least one grab bar on each end of the roof for stability when climbing onto the roof from either ladder? The management would not want to lose a brakeman because he did not have anything to grab onto now, would they?
@pmsteamrailroading Жыл бұрын
I would have skipped the roof walk and use an end mounted brake wheel. I can’t help thinking an adult standing on top of that car would topple it. But I do love your work.
