I think the kinda touching thing about Steve's backstory is that he's basically just using a themed food truck as an excuse to have friends dressed up as clowns like he would have had back home.

Wow, I never thought of it like that. I interpreted it as sort of as a disguise (no one would notice him if he had fellow clowns around him) like Ceaser was saying about his employees blowing his cover and how he would "stick out" if they didn't all also look undead. But that's a good interpretation too that's really sweet.
