We had a 1985 Panther CM360 for years on out farm and have nothing but praise for it. What a brute! Very fuel efficient too. I've always loved the looks of the green Steiger before they were bought out by Case.

Very cool. The Panthers were hard beat. What implements did you run on yours?
@stuartleis90794 жыл бұрын
We pulled a 60’ Bourgeault cultivator with a 350 bus. air cart for seeding with the Panther. In the fall we pulled a 49’ heavy duty chisel plow with anhydrous ammonia teeth and a 2000 gal tank behind. That was a big load. Often times we’d be going in late fall in the snow. As long as the ground wasnt froze. That Steiger could sure pull. 70’ Degelman Heavy Harrow at 11 mph was no problem. That’s over 70 acres per hour. I miss that brute. It was such a pleasure to operate.

My brother welded front frames in Fargo in the early 90s when the 9300 series came out they shut the whole plant down for a day and the families of the workers could take a self guided tour of the plant that was really something to see the 9300s had the name Steiger on the grill

The KTA 1150 in the Tiger III and IV is a beast and can be pushed well past 600 with relative ease. Tractor itself seems kind of light for that kind of power although I'm sure with enough weights and fluid you could get it to hook up. Truly a beast and barely pushing that engine to get 470 or 525 hp out of it.

Another example of a company that saved IH. In the early 80's around northwest Tennessee only a couple of farms had the big Steigers. Us kids would ask for a 1/64 toy for our birthday or Christmas and if lucky enough to get one, would pry the wheels off another toy tractor and super glue them on the Steiger to make duals. They were not very detailed back then.
@bigtractorpower4 жыл бұрын
I was right there with you on wanting a Steiger toy. I ended up getting an Industrial Steiger toy. My friend and I cut wheels off too to make duals. We used modeling clay to make the duals removable like the real ones.

A german tractor manufacturer, Eicher, did that for a while too. They had Leopards, Panthers, Tigers, Kingtigers and Mammoths for some reason. The range went from 15 to 60 engine hp in the 1960s, so any Steiger cat would have eaten them for lunch.
