I got a krone big m II love it. Had a pull behind mower didnt like sore neck at end of day. So I bought a selfprolled case mower with 18ft cut. I like it but had to tedd it out to chop it at right moisture. So bought the big m saves me a trip across the feild and runs fuel efficient.

IMHO the triple mower was the best bang for the buck. Not only fast, but when your finished with hay, unhook it and use the tractor for something else. That type of synergy is how you make a nice profit. A dedicated machine is only feasible if you are cutting year round and is your sole source of income. Many dairy farmers will contract the cutting out to people who own those Krone type machines.

Thanks for the great vids. I started my mowing career as a contractor at 10 yrs old on my fathers old fordson major. My 11yr old brother also used to drive a super major and disc mower. That was in Wales UK,back in 1973,I have used every type of mower from an old horse drawn Albion land wheel driven sickle bar,to the latest tractors and triple mowers. I am still contract cutting and currently run a new Fastrac 4220 and Kuhn 9.5 metre triples. I will try a Krone Big M at some point i reckon. Even after 50 yrs I stil love scything through the grass.

Hey Mike, why didn't you show the big Vermeer 18 ft pull type disc mowers or the 16 footer ???? Have a 18 ft Vermeer mower and a caseih 8920 and it would cut rings around those 4 green tractor's.
@bigtractorpower4 жыл бұрын
I would very much like to film a Vermeer. They are impressive. I have not had the opportunity to film one yet. As far as the 946 MoCo’s there are two factors here at play. This is a new seeding of alfalfa and the field was a bit tacky but the crop was ready and more rain on the way so it was go time to get everything mowed and chopped. They were running 6 mph to reduce wear and tear on the new seeding. Typically they would run 8 mph. The fields in this area roll and they have creases in the land that make dips and bumps. You can not fly across these fields with any type of mower.

It really is not. That was filmed in an area with few dairy farms. There is no market for big mowers. By running 946 MoCos they can re sell them to smaller cattle farms which are big in the area. This farm mild 3,500 cows and farms several thousand acres of grain.

Our farm runs a Case 162 DC behind our Magnum 180, it's certainly not the most sophisticated set up, but gets the job done, and is a relatively easy piece to maintain, provided it doesn't hit a big groundhog hole.
@prjndigo4 жыл бұрын
Haybines will almost never cut a stalk more than once, they're far more effective in denser crop for less horsepower, can handle MUCH taller crop in much less smooth terrain, can be adjusted to cut VERY high, and you can make looser bales from their output and you can cut ripe grain crop with them without much threshing loss. One of the advantages the video specific haybine has is it is 100% hydraulic. Mike failed to mention that Allis-Chalmers 185 is an 86-90hp tractor, climbing hills and mowin more than half as fast as the 200hp JD's with mocos while producing a better product that lays more fluffy on the ground.

I’m American, from the Midwest, the heartland. Haven’t lived in the states for just over 14 years. Don’t really like the division that’s happened in the last few years but I love my country, it’s always been great to me. When I’m missing, really missing my home, I look for (google) things like MLB, National Parks, road trips and the big green tractor. Used to work on the racetrack ( thoroughbreds) in my twenties and can remember getting good hay, great hay, alfalfa, “wow” alfalfa. Would love to shake out a flake one more time. Saw local farmers here cutting some grass here I think with a 6 series and a disc mower. Of all the farming, hay is it for me, weird. I always look forward to big tractor power, what ever the colour.

Really enjoyed this - would love that Allis 185 to go with my B, WC & D272. Haybines never caught on here in the UK but the Estate my father worked on were quite forward thinking and they did try a New Holland self propelled - it may have been a 1469. I can find no information here in the UK just a You Tube vid of one for sale in the US. I know this one had a Ford industrial 4 cyl Diesel engine. It was soon replaced by smaller but faster disc mowers. The crop was lifted by one of the first John Deere 4020's to come into the UK.
@bigtractorpower4 жыл бұрын
That is very interesting to know Speed Rowers were in the UK. The 1469 did use a Ford engine. I hope to find a 1469 and 1411 to film. I have lead on a 1469. What was the mowing option in the UK before disc mowers?
@martingardener904 жыл бұрын
@@bigtractorpower Really the only thing before that was a knife mower ( or cutting bar ), probably no more than 5' behind a Fordson major. I remember from the registration no of the 4020 it was new in 1965. Have you ever heard of a Busatis mower? it used two reciprocating knives.

Being from germany i find it quite interesting how much horsepower is being used to cut 13ft/4m of hay. Over here the tripple mower setup, or at least a dual mower setup (basicly the triple mower, but the rear mower only has one mower, mostly to the right) are standart, and often used with tractors at around 250HP for the triples and between 100 and 150HP (depending on the with of the rear mower, front mowers are mostly 3m/3ft). I have never seen something like MoCos, Swathers (although i know that pottinger has some belts that you can attch to one of their rear mowers (the tripple ones)) or windrowers. What are the advantages of those?
@garettcalhoun37764 жыл бұрын
Most tractors over here in the U.S.A. do not have front mounted 3-point hitches or a PTO to power a triple mower setup. The Moco pull-type mower/conditioner is the next best affordable option people have around here. Self-propelled swathers are not uncommon either, however they are quite pricey when compared to a pull-type Moco mower that you could put on an already owned tractor.
