@joeweaver99133 жыл бұрын
Agreed, and the point of building your own would be to get everything you want and nothing that you don't. Cargo trailers tend to far better built. I think this unit looks like a fine camper and I would be thrilled to own something like it. But I wouldn't expect it to last long.
@SalisburySnake3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm none of those things professionally, but I have extensive home remodeling experience and could build a trailer. The cargo trailer could work out in 2 scenarios: 1) you buy a used trailer and throw a futon in the back and a chemical toilet and an outdoor shower hose and call it done. 2) You build something nicer than you could ever buy, because you like building things and don't mind spending a lot. The youtuber is right that building something middle of the road that looks decent and doesn't cost over $15k is almost totally out of the question. The trade off we all know is that these trailers don't last very long. But this one is made for people with kids 5-15 years old, so no one really needs it to last forever.

As a full time RV'er i think the dog leash D-links aren't common enough, i literally have leashes going through my rims if i need to tie my dogs up, i'd love one of those D links on all sides of the rig but specially under the main canopy area.

Hi jake, Yhea.. that is cool! I have a little pug that would run off if we don’t have him connected to someone. I like that too. I actually got an oversized carabiner and looped it on the assist handle outside door and connected his retractable leash to it. Works great. Something to consider.

It’s funny you brought up converting a cargo trailer into a camper, honestly there are generally two reasons why it is beneficial to do that over purchasing something like this. Number 1 is the price, $15k honestly is probably comparable to where I ended up on my last build which will be a higher quality than this but also have slightly less features. The main reason to convert a cargo trailer though is to be incognito 🥸, for the urban camping in that is the only real reason I would convert over purchase. This is a decent buy right here though.

The biggest issue with converting a cargo trailer to an RV is the deck height. RV trailers have higher deck heights for the plumbing and tanks under the floor. Cargo trailer floors are typically as low as possible for easier cargo loading. This is why many toy haulers have angled sections of the rear entry - to sort of split the difference.
@BlueOvals243 жыл бұрын

Thanks for covering this trailer. Awesome option considering our SUV tow vehicle and family size. Plus the price is great. We are hesitant with putting too much money into an “not-used-often-enough money pit.” But at this general price point it would be worth it given the opportunity to upgrade if we want to.
@gregnixon12963 жыл бұрын
The “not used often enough money pit” aspect is what prevents me from buying a trailer. In the suburbs, where do you park it for the 355-ish days of the year that you aren’t using it? I can’t justify the cost for storing it given its rare use.

I've often tinkered around with the idea of a cargo conversion not so much for the savings, more so for just the funsies for my son and I to do together and customization aspect. I'd be far more than ok with the lack of plumbing and other things being kept simple. Just toss a portable toilet in and my bowels will he happy.

I'm the 1% of the 1% that work as an all around carpenter (cabinets/finish work, electrical, plumbing, etc.) everyday. With that said, I have converted a cargo trailer to camper/toy hauler, it is functional but not what the wife wanted. Could have been nicer but definitely not worth the money or effort. I spent way too many hours on a negligible (wife's word for it) project, that could have been spent towards a clients bathroom remodel that would have bought that Saga trailer. Yes, nice bathroom remodels are expensive in Alaska!

We have a slightly older version of the same model and have loved it. We bought a used model from a rental company that rented it for 9 months prior selling it and saved about 30 percent from your price. It's great, beats tent camping any day. Used it as a home office during covid. We pull it with a Jeep latitude all over the rockies and Utah with no real problems. A leaf spring broke after 5 years or so but took just an hour or 2 to replace on the side of the road. 2 adults, teenagers and a big dog fit well if you kick the kids and dog out while cooking. Bring ear plugs if the dog or mom snores. Plan on traveling all over USA and Canada with just 2 of us when we retire. Very easy to maintain, park and pull.
