Nice build, quite different than what I have going on but I have quite different needs. I do mostly weekend trips, longest maybe one week. I also don't plan to make so much food by myself. Diesel heater is definitely something I need as I live in cold country (Finland). Biggest difference is that all my constructions must be easy to remove. My Sprinter is registered as a cargo truck (very low taxes compared to van) so it must be able to carry cargo. All, the bed and the kitchen, are fixed with load lashing lines, no bolts allowed. By the way, you should have 12 V TV, using inverter is not efficient, the high voltage is slowed down inside the TV again.

Hi Mel, the safety device on the gas burner hob is called a "Thermocouple", each burner has one, when the user turns on the gas knob and ignites the gas on the the said burner its flame touches its own dedicated Thermocouple, the Thermocouple then starts “getting a bit active” and produces and also sends a small DC voltage (produced by the flame) down to the main gas valve that then opens due to a small electro DC magnet that's built into the main gas valve and allows the main gas to pass through the valve, this small magnet keeps the main gas valve open all the time a flame is detected, if the flame is extinguished accidentally, no DC voltage is produced so the main gas valve will close because the electro magnet is de-energised, the main gas valve will not stay open again until the user depresses the burner knob again and ignites the flame ..... Simples.....

Hi Mel, another great video, you're marvelous with this, you're original way of thinking and doing things, and so 'real world' approach sets you apart from and way ahead of all the others, even Greg Virgoe, who surely is king of this, but to achieve his results you need to have a superbly fitted workshop full of expensive machinery and spend a fortune, no expense spared, on equipment, ie the Truma boiler vs your shower heater and so on. You explain things and present yourself very nicely too. On your cooktop hob, you say it's a home one so the gas jets need altering for lpg, how do you go about changing the gas jets? Looking forward to your next video, always a joy, best wishes, Alan in Norfolk.

Mel, I'm getting towards starting our kitchen area and I was thinking if using those cheap plastic drawer systems which can be brought for under £20. The good thing is they are very light, strong and should anything spill they are completely waterproof. Im thinking I should be able to fit 2 lots under our work top, then use your panel doors idea to hide the drawers. I'm not really up to the carpentry of making my own drawers. Despite your video making it look easy mine would probably be out of true or the wrong size etc so I think those drawer units would be perfect and very cheap into the bargain. One of the many issues I came up against was making things true in the van where there are no straight lines etc and nothing to follow that's level etc. It would be interesting to see how you deal with that. I have to admit my things are a bit off. They are very rigid and strong but not quite true.

How long a burn can you get on that wood stove? Will it keep you warm for the night in 10degrees Fahrenheit or less?
@BigVanSmallWorld3 жыл бұрын
Good question it’s ok and heats really fast but depends on what wood you have to how long it lasts with soft wood I get about 2 hours with hard wood it lasts 3 to 4 hours I usually wake up needing a wee before it goes out though so I re fill it at that time 👍😊👍

Hi ya thanks for the positive message unfortunately it’s 2 wheel drive but I’ve not got stuck yet and need places I’d never have gone before definitely worth the investment get a van you wouldn’t regret it good luck keep on swinging 👍🤓👍

Thankyou Mel that’s made me feel loads better as I’ve been looking at a lot 4x4 vans and your totally Wright I’ve got a ford ranger wildtrack and when I had road tyres on i could easy get my pickup stuck just on a wet grass verge pulling over for a car or even driving in stubbles on a wet day ... But I totally agree with you Mel matey on that one because as soon as I put a set of general grabbers on ...I’ve never had to use 4x4 wheel drive at all and that is the same for my last 6 pickup truck as well matey especially in the snow or driving across wet stubble fields ...That’s made me feel loads better I don’t have to look at all wheel drive vans Thankyou Mel ..I’ve seen ex utility one cheep and it’s really clean in side for a change and not dirty and all I have to do is build a bed and get some BF goodrich tyres ...have you ever thought of getting a winch too matey just as back up as well just i only need a van just to chill in and sleep odd night but be able to have a coffee in it and chill as I’ve got over 2000 aces of land and it’s mostly valleys and there are a lot people night hawking on a night but they have been lucky so far and all got away so I’m after a van I can paint army stealth colours but also keep eyes out from inside my van with my Dji Mavic Enterprise drone ...just sick of seeing on Facebook people that are local to me but I know full well they haven’t got any permission as my famley are from a farming background so I know the land ...But it’s the posting all there good finds I know there is a lot people targeting my land on night Matey and they know to look out for me truck so I’m thinking of van to be more stealth in so they eggnor me in a van till back doors open and I come flying out on quad haha 😂..hey there good quads to be fair Mel use my kids quads some times if fields are ploughed and I’ve got mile or 2 to reach me land from road I use a little Yamaha YMF 90cc forward and backwards rev and go such good little thing to carry all ur things to other side in or check permission on matey thanks for help Mel and off to get cracking on get van cheers matey Godbless 🙏🏽

Hi Mel, I'm thinking of buying a Sprinter van and doing a conversion next year, would you recommend the sprinter?...I believe that fuel costs and maintenance costs are more than say a Ford Transit or a VW Crafter, do you find this to be true ?....I would do my own service and maintenance, so maybe its not much difference then?...Thank you.
@BigVanSmallWorld19 күн бұрын
Hi great question and for sure if you can do your own servicing one hundred percent get a sprinter I’ve had Ford I’ve had VW you simply cannot beat the quality of Mercedes they cost more yes but they are definitely built to last and most importantly they are so much better to drive especially over long distances. I had a lot of issues with my sprinter but I did buy it from a salvage auction for a fraction of what it was worth so knowing that I would have to work on it but now it’s running so well I’d say I’d never part with it. Before you buy anything make sure you test drive a Ford a VW and then the sprinter you will thank me 🍻🫶👍

@@BigVanSmallWorld Look forwards to that , if it causes no issues I would do the same in mine but it would be no cutting as the back of the 3rd seat in mine folds forwards to make a middle tray for takeaways lol , I think I would just need to remove the hinge part , it is a Renault Master 2014 lwb , not long bought it and only partial converted so far .
