To me that might be one of the things that's actually better about the stock ableton reverb than a lot of other reverbs is that you can see the envelope for the eq that you're applying
@quantum_ocean2 ай бұрын
Technicall they are rolling off at the freq you set; it's they they are rolling off at a more gentle slope (1 pole) than many of of expected. Vahalla could improve the UI by adding "1 pole" or "6 dB/oct". I'll write them make suggest that.
@Dr-Curious2 ай бұрын
@@quantum_ocean Even better, would be a mode switch: 6dB or 12dB. And I also HATE the single wet:dry knob because it interferes with the crucial dry level when used inline. (Sean's ignored me for years on that one).

A trick I learned from Andrew Scheps with verb is to eq before the verb and roll off the frequencies you don't need before the verb happens
@Joel_Harris2 ай бұрын
if you add eq before wouldn't the verb be able to add them back in?
@devinkei14692 ай бұрын
@Joel_Harris depends on how steep your high/low pass filter is. Eqing before makes it so your "send" signal is cleaned up for the reverb. It's a lot more transparent, sounds better with real instruments imo. I sometimes eq before and after. All depends really
@Dr.Awesome_DE2 ай бұрын
The correct way would be to apply the reverb first, then use the EQ to remove any unwanted frequencies, and finally place the EQ before the reverb
@billB1012 ай бұрын
@@Dr.Awesome_DE You mean one way to do this.
@mikesaintjulesmusic2 ай бұрын
This best way to EQ the verb is to place it on a send with an EQ after it. This way you can shape the EQ of just the reverb without Eqing everything else.
@swandaley2 ай бұрын
The explanations about the low and high cut makes a lot of sense. I usually have my reverbs on a sends and I always use an EQ on the channel. Every time I increase the low cut on the Valhalla plugin, there's still a ton of low end rumble. This is a great reminder to read user manuals.

I've been thinking about doing a video about the fact that SO MANY of the KZbin music content creators don't really know jack about music and such a LOW percentage of them actually MAKE music, (let alone make music that anyone would want to listen to.) YOU on the other hand are one of the EXTREME FEW that have it ALL together. EVERY SINGLE TIME I watch one of your videos I get at least something out of it. Your vids are concise, you hit your sales pitch with MINIMAL time away from your subject, and they are interesting and sometimes even entertaining. You use of graphics and screenshots is right on - and the content is packed with pertinent information. Thank you for your videos - I've been making music for close to 50 years and am still a student learning new stuff every single day. This video is really good to see how the integrated EQs in reverbs work, not as sharp as I thought. For vocals and melodies I always put reverbs and delays in parallel, so you can control them and put your own EQs before and after the effect. This way you can also add compressors or sidechain effects just on the reverb or delay.

This was a great video packed with lots of info. Thanks Z. Didn't know that valhalla only used a 6db slope for the EQ cuts. I usually put Pro-Q on before and after my reverb to remove unwanted frequences. Nothing crazy. On the way in I'll remove some of the bass and on the way out I like to give the EQ curve an M shape so the lows, highs, and the mids (where the vocal sits) all get tamed a bit to make room for more important elements. I also think another important element of the reverb is matching your timing up with your project. I find that having my reverb end just before a time amount (a beat, one bar, two bars) helps to keep clarity in the mix. I believe this is because the reverb doesn't bleed as much into the next phrase.

@veraha47062 ай бұрын
How do you side chain it to original signal ? Sorry if my question is stupid . Wouldnt the original signal already be altered ?
@charley20702 ай бұрын
@@veraha4706 I am on Cubase but I guess it is Same Same everywhere. To add rvb put a reverb Plugin or whathaveyou on a fx Channel as a send effekt. You can then put a Compressor right after that rvb Plugin in the same fix channel. You have normaly a few slots for plugins. Then you activate sidechaining like you would when you do Bass ducking. For the Input you choose the Track you send to fx Track earlier. That’s it. You will see two Sends on the Track. The first is for the amount that goes to the Fx Channel and the Second is the amount that goes into the sidechain within the Compressor. Hope that makes Sense now.

No after, that's better

@veraha4706 you put the reverb on a return track, send the reverb to the track and then sidechain to the track you send it to, tuat way transients are ducked when the reverb is applied. You can also apply reverb to several tracks saving cpu.

@KevboKev2 ай бұрын
Is this reverb applied as an effect or a send? I started using Reverb as a send, and it's been a big game changer for me. I set the Mix on the reverb 100% as a Send, and then I can adjust the mix of the send from the track itself. This allows for no loss of dry signal when increasing the mix of the reverb. If I were to just apply the reverb as an effect, as I increase the mix, I start to lose the dry signal, resulting in a weaker sounding track.
@ppau08222 ай бұрын
Definitely the Valhalla is meant to be used as a send
@AutPen38Ай бұрын
Usually use reverb on a send channel. The mix knob is handy when you're auditioning verb on a specific track, or using it as an effect only required on one sound, but it's good practice to put the reverb on a separate/parallel channel and route several tracks to it with different send amounts, much like in the old days when studios only had one or two reverb devices and everything was sent to them simultaneously. (They didn't have a separate plate or echo chamber for every instrument!)

I had a question about adding a reverb to a drum bus. Do you bus all your drum elements, including the kick, to one bus then add a reverb to that drum bus? Also, do you eq that bus after adding the reverb? For example, do you send the dry drum signal and the wet reverb signal to your stereo out?
