The elusive GT Pulse Fixed Gear, the last Pulse model GT ever made (as of today). I was lucky enough to get my hands on this frameset locally here in NZ, it's got a super wiide top tube and features a BB86 press fit bottom bracket, which is quite odd. However it rides like a dream, really solid and quick. There's not a whole lot of info about this specific frame online but what I could find was that it was released in a very small quantity in 2010, it seems like it was only released in Australia and New Zealand (however this could be wrong). Let me know what you guys think and if you have any information on this model, I would love to learn more about it!

I comment this on every GT build I see but I don't care I need one of those frames! Never had one don't know how good they ride but they just look sooo 90s cool! Been looking around disappointed that every survivor mountain bike I look for is some kind of tiny frame. What did everybody do with their big frames? I mean come on average height is 511 but everything I see is something for somebody 5 ft 5.

The BB seemed to go in pretty easy. Any chance of it spinning in the frame? Love you builds though, I have watched every one and looked at the parts list to help determine what I want on my builds.
@waveywheelies
@waveywheelies 2 ай бұрын
It may of looked easier on film than it actually was haha, it went in nice and snug. However I don’t particularly like the idea of this press fit set up on fixed, I do think it has the chance to wear loose. In my personal experience press-fit bb’s cause a lot more issues than threaded do. But I’m hoping this holds up well enough! Thanks for the support and watching the videos, it means a lot!

What do you think I should do? I bought a set of used cranks and they're great and stiff and all, the non-drive side aint stripped since I can remove and reinstall the left pedals, but when I install them it is tilted down. What should I do? I dont want these cranks to go to waste, they ride really good for a set of 130bcd's
@waveywheelies
@waveywheelies 2 ай бұрын
What do you mean by tilted down? Are they not perfectly parallel with each other? If it’s not the bb, I’d personally recommend swapping them out with another set. I’ve ridden bent cranks before and it feels horrible, but also slightly dangerous depending how bad they are.

I've never seen a press fit bb on a track bike before. I wonder why gt decided to do that for this model?
@waveywheelies
@waveywheelies 2 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s very odd, no idea really, maybe they had a whole bunch of press fit bb shells spare from some road frames or something? Or just trying something new? The Cannondale caad10 I built also has a press-fit bb30 shell but they come stock fitted with a press-fit to bsa threaded adapter (so you can use any normal 68 threaded bb in them)
@janeblogs324

6:20 it should be pretty obvious....but if it isn't....wider chainstay stance = stiffer + more tyre clearance. (Plus I can change a Shimano press fit on the side of the road using just the crank spindle as a hammer/drift and then using them again to align and press fit the cups back in)

beginner question, should i really put grease on the cogs and hub thread? someone told me not to. Thanks
@the6ig6adwolf
@the6ig6adwolf Күн бұрын
Greasing the threads won't have any negative effects. A thin layer will actually prevent the cog and threads from becoming seized over time. I wouldn't put grease directly on the rear cog, though. It will attract dirt and wear out your drive train more quickly.

they were touching the frame and fork so they would wear away the coat of paint eventually if he left them.
@beluga1662
@beluga1662 2 ай бұрын
why did you do that to your seat post? (asking genuinely)
@gggero
@gggero 2 ай бұрын
if the diameter of the seatpost is too small for the frame, it would wiggle in the frame. a strip of soda can is true to the material (aluminium) and super thin, so you can wrap it around so it fits snug.
@beluga1662
@beluga1662 2 ай бұрын
@@gggero oohhh, thanks dude!
@waveywheelies
@waveywheelies 2 ай бұрын
Yep what @gggero said, in this particular case it seemed like the seat tube clamp area had been tightened with possibly a seatpost that was too small in diameter or someone had a post that was loose in there and it wore away some material. I measured it at around 31.9 where as the frame is spec’d for a 31.6 post. I tested a longer post and it got tighter lower down on the seat tube, so it seamed it was just the upper part that was worn. So the can shim filled up that extra space (a few mm) so the seatpost then fit snug (and the seatclamp didn’t have to be over tightened)
