I went from 170mm to 165mm cranks with good result about a year ago. There's a lot of tradition in cycling geometry that needs to be challenged. I also ride a "too small frame". Highly recommended ;-)

My grandfather was one of only a couple of bespoke frame builders in the Uk in the 70s and it took him a long time to develop his craft not some short course, You can get the gist quickly but to custom build a frame to a proper in house fit is a time earned skillset. Proper advice and truth from this guy.

'sigma sports' very kind of James to promote the old gig. Good to see the band back together. Had 165 cranks for a while and found the ability to ride in fast bunches very hard. Fast burst of acceleration were tough especially with a 52t ring. Gone back to 170 and 172.5. I've just realised this was an old vid

I really enjoyed the crank length discussion. I run 162.5mm on my TT bike and I’m 6ft. An interesting point I’ve found, is a larger chainring and a slightly lower cadence help remove that ‘weirdness feeling’ that James mentioned.

TW I had a pretty serious injury from playing rugby when I was younger which resulted in a fair amount of surgery so we always knew something wasn't quite right, it was a case of what. James and I are working closely with my coach Ken to try and refine and work out. A bike fit is a process of tweaking and refinement which we are hoping to do over a period of time as I've been having issues since the national 24hr. Keep watching I'm sure we will keep referring back as we hopefully get things better and better 👍

I've got about a 5mm leg length discrepancy as a result of breaking the ankle joint and the two lower bones in the left leg.. After ALL these years -just by chance -I bought a used Shimano 105 crankset that was 170mm vs the usual 175 mm. I used the 170mm for the short leg and a 175mm Specialized for the right leg. After some initial knee pain on my first few rides I have no problem and my butt does'nt get shredded like it used to.

Hey james, I’ve recently dine two bike fits, the same bikeshop, and they didnt even go into my cleat position, saddle reach... I still have pain in one of my knees, and feel alot of soreness in my glutes, and lower back soreness(he put a 13cm stem on my bike), and when I addressed it with him, he told me it was because I have lack of physical preparation, considering I ride 10-13h a week, plus stretching... I’m guessing It doesn’t really make sense

On a frequent basis James will mention bike shops that provide "bad" bike fits with them going on 3 day courses, buying the gear and providing a subordinate service. But, as I'm sure many will agree, we can't easily get to sigma sports so how do we know whether what is provided is suitable? Are there certain qualifications to look out for? P.S. love the videos

These videos are a great insight to bike fitting. I'm looking at ISM as a saddle option. I had a fit recently on my road bike and have the ability to get quite aggressive. To what reason did the fitter not see the ISM saddle as suitable for the road? I've heard mixed opinions.

Also nice to see Chris' freakish leg length discrepancy properly diagnosed. ;)
@Geeios17 жыл бұрын
Nope. It's pelvis angle caused by sleeping on his "long" side. Points right to it with the saddle pressure. The body compensates for small leg length discrepancy by changing the ankle angle to the pedal.
@Cade_Media7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he's had the quite large discrepancy since a serious accident which lead to surgery. But don't worry, Geeios knows about Chris more than Chris does.

I’m enjoying the bike so far kzbin.infoUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

Less than 5% of leg length "discrepancies" are actual length issues. I bet he sleeps on the "long" side, causing stretch and angles his pelvis creating the "length issue". Ugh, how much weight is on the TT aero bar? Raising the bars increases saddle weight...shouldn't the weight be on the pedals? No mention of frame geometry? Stack and reach? How that effects / prevents proper position to the physiology of the rider? Lots of fancy tech and talk, not much for fit though.
@ChrisHallRides7 жыл бұрын
Geeios1 Thanks for your thoughts on the fit. I actually had a very serious accident when I was younger playing rugby which is the cause of my leg discrepancy and issues and issues when I walk too. We chose not to go into too much depth about it.
