Bike Mods - Gearbox Reinforcements - R1100GS

In today's Bike Mod video I'll install the gearbox reinforcement for Red Rhino, my '97 BMW R1100GS. The gearbox is prone to cracking during (hard) offroad riding or riding with a loaded bike (2-up, heavy luggage or 2-up and luggage).
This is the first mod I'm installing to make Red Rhino more offroad suitable.

Thanks Guzzio1. For me it's partially precaution and partially because I do a decent percentage of my riding with luggage (when you own a GS you end up with all the snacks and drinks for the group in your panniers 😂) and some 2-up. Although the luggage nor riding 2-up goes over 70% of the load capacity it should be fine, but i'd like 2 be on the safe side since a new transmission will cost €€€

Have you measured the thickness of the plates? If not, can you measure it for me? I already sent an email to the company but i am not really expecting a reply.

I measured 4mm with my tape measure, didn't take the time to dig up the calipers😉

@@M0Tourist No problem. Thank you very much. I will purchase one but there is one from Heed and another one from Boxerpars. Heed says their plates are 5mm thick and it is 63€ at the moment. So i guess i will try to order that one.

I just measured the lugs, not the main plate. But either should do the job😉

Hi, I see you have the TickerKiller installed. Any good, is it worth it?

The tickerkiller reduces the ticks from the valve body. May be you can completely remove them by tightening it more, but I didn't want to make it to tight... You can also solve the ticking by installing an aftermarket exhaust, just take your pick 😉

I can't hear what settings newtonmeters the small bolts are and the big bolts. 20nM and 64nM? Thanks.

Let me check tomorrow, but out of my head it was 23Nm for the small ones (footrests) and 46 Nm for the bolts in the gearbox.

I've checked the guide, 22 Nm and 46 Nm are the correct torque specs👍

Ik heb ze een tijdje geleden om Amazone gekocht: amzn.to/3M5OZIR Ze zijn niet 100% waterdicht, ik gebruik ze om tie-wraps, boutjes, startkabels en slot in op te bergen. Zijn ze perfect voor 😉

Klopt het dat de plaat aan de schakelkant. door de spacer bus iets van het frame afstaat? dus niet totaal strak tegen het subframe aan.

Volgens mij was de spacer net zo groot als het gat diep was. Ik zal van de week even kijken als ik er aan denk. De plaat zorgt ervoor dat de kracht van het frame niet op 1 bout maar op 3 bouten werkt, op zich maakt het dan niet uit of de plaat strak tegen het frame aan zit of datie iets wijkt. Als ik eraan denk geef ik je van de week een update, je kunt me ook een mail sturen, dan kan ik je een close-up foto sturen

Ik heb net even gekeken en er zit inderdaad een klein spleetje tussen het frame en de plaat, ik denk net iets minder als 1mm

@@M0Tourist oke , bij mij zit er wel iets meer ruimte tussen bij de bovenste bevestiging.Opvulbus zit wel volledig in het framegat.
