Bike Mods - HealTech QuickShifter - R1100GS

In todays video I'm installing a HealTech Quickshifter on Red Rhino, my '97 BMW R1100GS. The HealTech Quickshifter is a small module paired with a bike specific wiring harness that is 'plug & play".
I'll show you what's included in the packages, explain how it works, show you how to install it, how the setup with the phone works and of course test ride the system.

I'm still pretty happy with the quickshifter after more than a year. It's not as fancy as a factory install on modern bikes, but it is proven technology... The sensor in the shifter sends a signal to cut the ignition for 1 or 2 cycles, which eases the pressure on the gears and enables you to shift while keeping the throttle open. The most 'tricky' part is setting the threshold for this signal correctly, but that is not too difficult... I mainly use it on hard acceleration, but definitely not all the time

Hello! Great video thank you for taking the time to create this. Am I right that the quick shifter cuts the ignition? I might be wrong but you’ve connected it on the injector side. Thanks

Hey elsgarage, You're right, it cut's the fuel injection off momentarily, but you'll still have a spark (i think, didn't test it).

wow! that is very impresive, the gearbox is the weak point of this bike (even the M97) and it is very tricky to operate. I wonder how it will work in the long run. Any issues so far after a year? are you using it a lot? I have quickshifter in my k1300s and some people said that wear out the gearbox more than with the regular procedure.... I wonder if it is true, in my case I don't use it that often because of that...Thank you for the video mate, very interesting! (you have one more subscriber by the way..)

Thanks for the sub! So far I've no issues with the gearbox, I use the quick-shifter to mess around, but I'm not using it all the time. It's a lot of fun and that's also how I tread it ;) I do expect that I need to open the gearbox in the coming years to have a look, since I find a bit of metal shavings in the oil, likely from the shifter forks. But that's an issue existing before the quick shifter install and not always present.... Anyway, to me it was a good investment and I enjoy it everytime I want to mess around :D

@@M0Tourist Hallo Motourist. Ik zou ook wel graag zo'n type quickshifter op mijn bmw f800gs willen zetten. Maar ik zou hem dan alleen gaan gebruiken als ik echt goed gas geef. Als je in de stad rijdt en je toch vooral met de koppeling schakelt, heb je dan last van dat de ontsteking of brandstof toevoer even uitschakelt? Of is het systeem zo slim dat als je de koppeling in knijpt en schakelt hij dan niet de motor onderbreekt? Bedankt voor de video!

@@maartenvandermeer2737 je merkt er nauwelijks iets van als de motor wordt onderbroken, dus ik weet het niet zeker. Logischer wijs heb je minder druk met schakelen als je de koppeling gebruikt, waardoor je de threshold waarde niet bereikt en de motor dus niet wordt onderbroken. Zoals gezegd, moeilijk om te constateren, dus zeker weten doe ik het niet, maar het geeft nooit problemen. Ik gebruik hem namelijk precies zoals je beschrijft ;P

@@M0Tourist bedankt voor de reactie. Hoe doet de healtech quickshifter het vergeleken met de oem schakel assistent pro van bmw? Ik hoorde je zeggen dat je met beide ervaring had. Ben erg benieuwd.

@@maartenvandermeer2737 de werken minder van 1 naar 2, maar ze zijn daar ook bruikbaar. De schakelassist op de 1250 is over de hele lijn wel beter en daar kun je ook mee naar beneden schakel, maar dat mag je ook wel verwachten als zoiets vanaf de grond voor een bepaald model wordt ontwikkeld en als je er zo naar kijkt is hey jammer dat die van 1 naar 2 nog niet feilloos werkt... De healtech werkt verder best wel goed, maar kan wat finetuning vergen hoor hij naar wens werkt. De versnellingsbak van een 1100 is ook een stuk lomper als die van een 1250, waardoor het schakelen meer overtuiging vraagt. Maar dat ligt denk ik meer aan de bak als aan de quickshifter

The types should be: iQSE-1+QSH-F2D You can check out the healtech website (it's in the description), there is a selector that shows the correct types for the bike. This quick-shifter should work for al R1100's ;)

May be smoother is not the right wa ** y of wording... I've also riden the 1250 gs with quick-shifter and that wasn't buttery smooth either. With these large 2 cilinder bikes there is a lot of mass moving, which gives you a little kick in the higher regions. The better word was a lot more fun
