Could you make a list with a video on the tools you used restore this bike? I'm looking to learn how to restore my bike too. The bike has been sitting in my shed for years and it's built up quite a bit of rust.

Most modern bikes can be taken apart with hex keys (allen wrenches) and a chain tool. You may need a bottom bracket tool if you want to remove the bracket but this may not be necessary. After that, you can pretty much clean the components with soap and water but be sure to dry thoroughly and re-grease (with bike grease) all moving parts.

Pedro’s comment is definitely misleading. If you want to completely disassemble a bike you’ll need specialized tools specifically for your bike/components to remove the cassette or free wheel and bottom bracket, with some other weird tools if you want to true, regrease, or disassemble your wheels. Also that tool to remove the headset bearing and also to press the cups back in. Bikes are annoying as hell with their lack of standardized components. If it has campagnolo parts, forget about it. It’s not worth it.

He just wants to freshen up his bike from the shed, I wouldn’t expect him to have to clean out every single bearing in the bike. I also didn’t want to overwhelm him with all the specialty tools since they can be expensive and he may never need to use them again. I was not misleading, I was simply trying to help.

@@cocacolatgv I appreciate your intention, but I’ve never wanted to completely disassemble a bicycle, just freshen it up. I’ve been extremely annoyed that I had to buy specialized, bike-specific tools to do this. My bikes are from the 90s and weren’t used for many years. The cassettes/freewheels were extra filthy, and the bottom brackets on 2 of them needed attention. Also the wheel bearings needed regreased. Each of these tasks required specialized tools or tools I didn’t own, yet none of them were intensive bike disassembly operations.

Cool video! My old bike that was given to me by my late father in 2001, got stolen in 2017. I had that bike from i was 11 years to 27 years old. 1 month ago the bike arrived in the backalley behind my appartment and i took it in before it disappeared again. I took the bike for a spin today and the wheels run true, the shifting works great and it has the option to mount disc brake on the rockshox forks (didn't know diskbrakes was a thing for 2001-bikes) Even though i have a great Merida full-sus trailbike i'm thinking of doing just like you. Buy some decent parts and breath new life into something old =D
