Do you practise your triathlon transitions before race day? Let us know in the comments below 👇

Honestly... No. I respect that it's something that people get intimidated at, and it's definitely harder if you're doing really fast sprints/Olys where each second counts, but overall: I'm just putting my bike gear on. I think a lot of middle and back-of-packers sort of needlessly stress themselves out here. An extra 10 seconds onto a 3hr Oly isn't going to change the world. Just relax and focus and you'll be fine. :)

For T1 and being very nearsighted, I put a crazy bright towel across my bike handlebars to make it easier to find coming out of the swim :), and yeah count the racks when you can't see clearly much beyond two feed :D .

I practised both T1 and T2 before my first sprint Tri. Unfortunately I never tried to run any longer than some hundred meters without socks. Come race day I paid for that with nasty blisters from sandy, wet feet. Saved 3 seconds for not putting on socks, suffered 5 k.

So what wld you recommend? Putting a couple of thin socks inside wetsuit or something? Is that allowed in An Ironman under UK British triathlon rules etc (I thought I read you were not allowed swim shoes)

I 1000% cannot run without socks. I have to wear sweat resistant socks that costs freaking 20$ a pair, otherwise... I get insanely large and long blisters along the arch of my feet. :/

I want to use a one piece cycling skinsuit and take it off in T2. As a man, am i allowed to be topless with a towle around my waist? There is an odd rule about not unzipping your top at any point in the race, presumably that doesn't apply in transition? Also, can i put the number in the skinsuit number pouch and take it out for the run? And, is the number made of paper, will it disintegrate during the smim if its under my wetsuit? So many questions!

what bike would I need for a teens triathlon?
@DiveMonkey246 жыл бұрын
Attempted my first local triathlon last week (9 Sep) which then became a duathlon (11 degree water + 5 degree air temp). This race used the bike bag only and when going from the run to the bike I handed in an empty bag as I do not own cycle shoes yet so I cycled with my trail shoes... They did not hang up my bag leaving me with nowhere to put my helmet, cycle shorts and gloves (luckily wore my run shorts under my cycling pants). With it being my first race like this and not knowing what to do I handed my gear to my sister and was then told I may be disqualified... I followed all the rules and they lost my bag so I went to the officials after to clarify the situation but was highly upset... :( - the 3rd male off the bike also had a similar situation... Has anyone else ever had their bike or run bag disappear?
@MsKlasz5 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear of such an unfortunate experience on your first go around! I've never had either disappear. I hope you tri :) again.

nice video, wish I found it much earlier. But something to add: In qualifying races the referees might walk trough T1/T2 and make sure there are no flashy markings to help you with finding your spot. On my last race they even rolled the towels 2 times (I found it rolled and placed it back 😉 ) for same chances for everyone. Cause I don't like to run barefoot I put on MTB shoes with MTB cleats in T1 and can start passing all the bare foot road racers with their clipped in shoes. So funny if they can't get in their shoes on the bike and fall over after the line (road hazzard) Same on the line to T2, unclip and run to the transition, again passing the ones bare foot. I might be loosing 10 seconds cause of aerodynamics, but I can make up for that with a much faster running time trough the transition. (many 100th of meters)
@brettklesitz96262 жыл бұрын
I don’t mind running barefoot. I take my feet out 200M before the dismount line and pedal with my feet on top of my cycling shoes. A flying dismount and I’m slipping on my shoes, grabbing glasses and I’m gone.

It looks like during T2, they've taken off their shoes, but left them on the pedals....

Is it mandatory to have different shoes for byking and running or could one simply use the same pair of running shoes for biking and then running (of course not using clip on pedals)?
@TapCat3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can definitely use the same shoes. As long as you're okay giving up that extra efficiency in the power transfer that comes with using bike shoes then you can simply wear running shoes for both.

@markthrelfall35776 жыл бұрын
As Justin has explained; for the smaller events it should be fine to wrap a towel around yourself to change. Providing your not baring all to the world, then it is fine. Obviously check with the event beforehand to make sure, but I have seen this plenty in the past

I have the same potential issue. Given the replies and my limited budget, I'm beginning to wonder what it would be like to ride 112 miles in swimming trunks. I've never done 112 bike miles in swimming trunks before... BTW: I find running in swimming trunks quite comfortable, but I did a long distance run in cycling shorts one time and got really bad chaffing.

In the clips of the races they racked bike and then ran with helmet still on!? And without changing shoes...
@pinjaliina5 жыл бұрын
Actually, they're running with their bare feet, as in 6:36. And that's what's wrong with this video; if you're riding clipless pedals with road cleats, you don't want to run through the transition area with them on! Rather, unfasten your shoe straps and lift your heels up from your shoes while you're on the final approach to the dismount line. Then, take your feet off your shoes entirely while you dismount, leaving your shoes cleated to the pedals. (Just as you should pre-attach your shoes to your pedals before the race for a smooth T1, in fact!) I failed to do this on my first tri with road cleats, as I was mentally riding straight to the rack, and had to suddenly brake hard when the rapidly approaching dismount line finally woke me up. The run through the T2 area with road shoes on was horrible! Some race organisers regulate that all equiment must be left hanging from bags put to a rack located separately from the bike racks, and none are to be left next to the bikes. That's most likely what you're seeing here, so the guys are just throwing their bikes to the racks and then racing to their equipment bags.
