When kicking in the kickboard drill, should I feel some rotation? Can only do 10m or so until I'm out of breath

How about the flip side of using trail shoes on road, for example, during an Xtri race that features both types of terrain. Anything to keep in mind regarding form?

I’m not running to any standard but enjoy a regular plod! Hoka Speedgoat and Hoka Tecton X2 for rocky trails are incredible - used both in Alps and were faultless. But for muddy and wet grassy Mendip trails I am a massive fan of the Inov8 G270.

I'm probably crazy, as well as my fellow Breton swimmers. Looks like you're saying 14/15° is cold. Last February in Brittany, I asked some swimmers how cold the water was. With a laugh: ''as you can see, it's not that cold, no need for any wet suit''. Nonetheless, I came with a wetsuit the following day. Glances were scolded: this freshman is not serious, a wet suit!!! I spend 5 minutes trying to put it on. Impossible: it belonged to my son when he was fifteen. I had no choice, my honour was at stake: two little girls were watching and everybody was waiting. A seventysomething lady (the only one who looked to be a gentle person) told me: "the first time, you may think it's just impossible to breathe, but stay focused. After one or two minutes, the sensation is totally different''. True, I thought I was going to die - breathing was just impossible. Then the sensation changed: no more shaking, breathing became easy. I didn't swim long - probably 50 meters, no more - when everybody else swam for 10 minutes. When everybody was dry but shaking like crazy, I asked for the temperature. One guy, laughing, told me: ''check any fishing weather forecast on your smartphone''. Another lady (way younger, in her sixties) answered: ''8°C''. 8°C: I never swam in cold water, and for the first time, the temperature was 8°C!!! SHOULD I HAVE KNOWN IT BEFORE, I WOULD NEVER HAVE EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT SOAKING MY PINKY!'' I then came back almost everyday for three months. A little longer everyday. You can feel that the water is way ''harder''. After a fortnight, I was swimming with everybody for almost 10 minutes. In April, swimming in a12°C water was a delight!!! True, you're shaking way more 15/30 minutes after the swim than during the swim. Hot tea welcome!!! And then, what a delight, your mood can't be better: you feel you're really awake, alive for the rest of the day (not tired like after a long swim in the warm water of a swimming pool). Today, the water was 11.5°C. This winter, I'm cheating: I swim with wetsuit gloves, boots and a hat. Huge difference: when your hands do not shake, getting dressed is way faster, and you can hold your cup without overflowing your hot tea,. Without gloves and boots, even dry, it takes sometimes 20 minutes for the colour of hands and feet to swap from blue to pink! I should mention that swimming without any wetsuit present two advantages: 1. no need to spent minutes and minutes and minutes getting undressed because anyways, shaking makes it very difficult. No kidding: getting dressed and undressed is so annoying ; 2. swimming with a wet suit changes too much your technique. Balance is wrong, arm movements are rigid. I should also mention that I've been practicing the Scottish shower every morning since January 1997. For the first time, in Canada, during the ice storm: no warm water for 10 days in Ottawa, 5 weeks in Montreal!!

Swimming is the best exercise, builds strength, endurance, the best cardio, and gets your heart rate up. I swim 100 laps in 45 minutes, and feel amazing after! Tones the body up and I can swim as I get older.

The main reason I got trail shoes was for winter time and mainly to have a pair of shoes that's water resistant, and also the fact that they got more grip and traction in the snow and slush.

Road shoes have a technical foam that is very light but can damage easily, so there are rubber patches protecting key areas. In the trails the uneven surface will wear your road shoes much faster and damage the rubber layer as well. If you run every now and then on the trails, even if it's on packed surfaces, it makes sense to get a trail shoe.

Great and very informative video👍 I'm in Scotland where winter has been very mixed so far, icy snowy pavements and roads meant local woodland was safer but my regular everyday goto road shoes weren't the best. I visited my local decathlon in Aberdeen and tried on a few trail shoes they had. Eventually opted for their Kiprun Evadict XT8 and wow, great value and its immediately obvious a lot of time has went into the design of them. Brilliant and yes for comparison I no longer feel im trying to run with 28mm slick road racing tyres on😂

Over the years I've noticed that shoes designed for different terrain, distance, etc. are well worth the money. Do you "need" them? No, but should you get them? Yes, if you want to experience a better and more enjoyable run.

Thank you for normalizing recovery discourse. Recovery Hygiene and or Recovery Performance in Dr Andy Galpin terms should not be the secret sauce. Like Pizza there are numerous ways to correctly nail recovery.

I think it strongly depends on each person's personal beliefs. So, I only did running and cycling before, and now I'm lying at home after a knee surgery, and I know that I am only allowed to swim this year. And obviously I decided that planning a triathlon for 2026 is an amazing idea :) but which one? So, then, personal feelings come out: sprint is too short, ironman is too long, therefore my personal target is an Olympic. Target feels not easy, but still achievable; I personally know that I'll be proud and happy when I do it. So, for me this will be a target. But for other people it can be completely different :)
