I made my first voyage by bike to Target in Carmel Indiana to pickup a curbside grocery order. It can be reached from the city center completely on off-street dedicated paths, including the main bike highway of the Monon Trail.

Thank you for sharing this, Brandon. I'm German and to me this looks very European. Also, all these buildings and actually pretty much all of the infrastructure look like they have been built just a couple of years ago. It all looks so pretty. Or maybe it's just that they are so well maintained? Anyway, whoever is responsible for this planning has done a remarkably good job.

I live in Carmel Indiana this is my local trail that runs right through my neighborhood. It’s wonderful and I walk it and use my tricycle. It connects north/south to neighboring communities. Carmel is a lovely upscale bedroom suburb of Indianapolis.

I totally get what you mean about critiquing new infrastructure schemes in places that try hard - I live in Manchester in England, and while our council have built 'Dutch-style' separated lanes in places, sadly they are really compromised by blocked sight lines, being really narrow, unforgiving kerbs, bad drainage, poor surfacing etc etc. They have done SO much more than most UK cities, and have very good intentions, but it's still disappointing when the stuff they create isn't good enough to be used safely by all ages and abilities! I actually avoid the 'flagship' scheme along Manchester's 'curry mile', as the junctions are actually more dangerous than riding in the road. Our government launched some design standards, but they are merely guidance rather than something to be strictly adhered to.

Bicycles are a great local transportation option. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles safely. Safe, protected bike lanes and trails are needed to encourage more older adults and children to ride bicycles or scooters. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Healthy exercise, fossil fuels free transportation and great for social distancing. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly.

The Target you visited is in Westfield IN not Carmel. Once you crossed 146th it becomes Westfield.

So more than 130K riders. Let's call it 250K per year. Not bad for a town? city? with 100K residents. Basicly North-Indianapolis, I get you don't want to describe it as that, but well, that's better to explain it to Dutch.

This is amazing, this is the USA? The car sewer country??? A couple questions: do they plow these paths in winter? Also, how are ammenities in Carmel, do they have a good mix of uses? Seriously considering moving if I could...
