The 32-kilometer Kanonenbahn cycle path in Eichsfeld, Thuringia, from Dingelstädt to Frieda is a wonderful and easy-to-drive route. Over a disused railway line from the 19th century, which was historically built for the transport of cannons and other war goods, you can travel comfortably along a historic railway line from Dingelstädt to Geismar without major inclines or declines. From there a well-developed cycle path leads to Frida directly to the Werra cycle path not far from Eschwege.
A highlight is the 1,530-meter-long Küllstedter tunnel. The tunnel is dimly lit and around 10 ° C cold, but it is easy to drive through with the lights switched on.
Another highlight is the draisine station in Lengenfeld unterm Stein. From here you can take a trip with a draisine over the tracks of the cannon railway. Booking in time is important because the trips are often fully booked. It is also worth taking a break here for a feast. With a bottle of Waldi & Baldi lemonade and a schnitzel with French fries, you can fortify yourself and watch the goings-on around the draisine rides.
