The new GSXR1000r is just amazing and as per a lot of reviews that I have read and watched about it, it's the best performer Super sports motorcycle out there!! It's re-engineered from the ground up. Also it won the AMA championship again this year. (Again I agree the braking is not up to the par but it leads in all the other fronts.)
@Night_Diver817 жыл бұрын
i don't know why lap times alone would decide the winner. First off that would put the R6 out of contention before the test even starts... and also... this is Sportbikes shootout... not race bikes shootout... people will ride these for fun and enjoyment as well.
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian, it didn't per se, however the Aprilia has less flaws than the other two which led to a faster laptime, namely the brakes on both the Yamaha and Suzuki let them down and prevented them going faster. SBOTY is about what is the very best sportsbike dynamically, smaller capacity machines have won in the past, our usual tests take all aspects into account, but SBOTY is an annual, one-off, what's the very best machine on the planet.
@Night_Diver817 жыл бұрын
Fast Bikes Magazine I appreciate the reply!! (and besides.... your not wrong... with the Updated dash... the up and down quickshifter... the RSV4 is the one i would buy...... if could afford it... .... wich i can't... so I'll settle for the R6)
@iceninja467 жыл бұрын
If the brakes let them down, why are they in 2nd and 3rd? Brakes are a bit part of a bike, I don't understand the logic! Good vid though :)
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
Because they are so good everywhere else! The BMW also has brake fade issues as well, which was 4th in the test. You can work with this a little, and most of them can be cured by a decent set of pads. But at the same time, it shows the difference between really good brakes, and where manufacturers have tried to save money (which saves it for the consumer somewhat), by not putting the best on their top-spec models too.

@mcprocrastinator79217 жыл бұрын
Scott Rosenboom hey scott, you get the feeling they just picked it because its be long overdue. they said numerous times it did not really stick out, or blow them away but they added up the overall feedback, it wins (every piece of this was not convincing), i guess it was the most underwelming win ive ever seen, and for me as i said, it just seemed they picked it because the cbr has just been out of it for so long. in my view anyway.
@redryder11467 жыл бұрын
MCProcrastinator yeah I understand where you're coming from but this test here I wish they would have tested them on the street also because in my opinion it's kind of an incomplete test just testing them on the track because these bikes 80 to 90% of their time is going to be spent on the street anyway in my opinion

Finally a review I can agree with! Thank Christ, someone knows how to do an objective review!!!!!! MCN kills me ranking that freakin Ducati sooo freakin high every year with the added clause that's it's the most difficult bike to ride in the world!!! Jesus!!! Fagan loves the Aprillia we all know that but I think he try's to be as unbiased as possible, he loves the Ducati too but he ranks it fairly!! ANY review that doesn't have the R1 in the top three, is ran by guys who can't ride!

Arc Solomon Nope! Actually I have absolutely nothing against the Honda, lmao! Does your "ass"umption hurt now?? lmao, what I do have a problem with is subjective testing!!! 2015 R1 ranked #1 by MCN 2016 its ranked #2 with no change to the bike that beat it, none, 2017 its ranked 4th again with absolutely no changes at all to two of the bikes that beat it??? Need I say more, now if that's not subjective testing I don't know what is! Motorcycle.com is even worse, everything they seem to do is based on how they feel on the day, lol!

As someone trying to start their own KZbin bike review channel, I really loved the editing, music and feel of this review. I love MCN and they deliver great content but I feel their videos are in need of a bit of modern updating compared to some of the other channels I subscribe to here. They are great guys and do a fab job but this was just what I wanted from a bike review! Could have done with 0-60, quarter mile, BHP figures and top speed tests but still a great vid 👍🏻 well done guys.... 👌🏻

I think these tests are great only for the simple fact that if you look at other tests .. you will find that the top 3 bikes of this video didn't even make to top 5 in others .. so as a buyer .. it can be a bit confusing looking at tests after test ..soooo as an everyday sport bike rider your best to just buy a bike that looks the most beautiful in your eyes :)

@Julian Lankhorst I fully agree BUT the problem is that Fagan ain't alone in the show... I prefered BVG when he talked ONLY about bikes. That why I subbed at the beginning. When it comes to 44Teeth, the Superleggera vid was like a remix of MCN World's 1st ride on the 2017 Superleggera. What a disappointment.

We recently did a test between the RSV4 RF, ZX-10RR, BMW S 1000 RR and GSX-R1000R. The GSX-R won that test, a road based test, but it was very close with the BMW. The Aprilia we had, however, was poorly as it had come straight from another test with another outfit, they'd blown the clutch doing race starts and speed testing, and didn't tell anyone. So how the fully fit Apriia would have fared remains to be seen. That being said, we've been touring on the previous RF, and ridden one through all of winter and it was fab. But the Suzuki is an excellent road hack.

I'm not butt hurt at all, and I ride an R1. I've always been a big fan of the Blade and enjoyed a rollockingly good time on one at Ron Haslam's school, and I'm sure that it's a superb bike in isolation. My suspicions over MCN's test, relates to the actual video and the way the bike was presented through out. There seemed to be a lot of "it's great but....." type of comments from the riders and Micheal Neeves' final summation and announcement, seemed somewhat reserved, and his tone didn't feel like it matched what he was saying. The subsequent rollout year issues that are cropping up (as they do with all new models, The R1 gearbox one such example) continue to fuel my own suspicions, that the winner was a foregone conclusion before even a wheel was turned (for what ever reason). Micheal Neeves himself felt it necessary to reassure me of the objective nature of the test on another social media platform, but my suspicions remain. If I was the kind of person to get 'butt hurt' over a motorbike shootout video, then I'd be raging that the R1 didn't win, but I'm not so my butt remains pain free in my boxers
@VeeFour7 жыл бұрын
sean stevens8866 but MCN did base their results on lap times, I can copy you the exact response that Micheal Neeves replied to me in person regarding this very topic
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
Didn't they do it at Rockingham? Is that right? If so the Blade probably did feel good there, small short track and they were able to make the full use of the engine as it makes a lot less power, and it is fun to rinse. That may explain some it, but not all!
@ahaa887 жыл бұрын
This is a review i would like to agree. Although I might never have the pleasure of riding big bikes, I have ridden a few small bikes and Honda gearbox problem caught my attention. Honda's smaller cbrs too have gearbox problems. I have not hit false neutrals but the gearbox was hesitant to shift down on aggressive inputs. Seems some traits, good or bad, are characteristic to manufacturers irrespective of the model range. Like Yamaha's average brakes or Suzuki's grunty engines.

Great review guys! If price,reliability and distance to stealerships was not an issue, I would have looked hard at buying an Aprillia instead of Yamaha.
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
The reliability thing is a bit of an old wives tale now, there are dealers in the UK offering lifetime guarantees on Aprilia metal to try and combat this old pub chat. The reason they do this is exactly because of the low rate of issues that have happened in recent years - basically, no more or less than most other manufacturers in a sales-issues percentage, so they feel safe enough to put the money where their mouths are, so to speak. In our own testing experience, the only issue we've had with an Aprilia in nearly ten years is a dodgy rear shock (a third party Ohlins item Aprilia obviously don't produce themselves), and even then the bike still finished 3rd because it's that good! We've actually had far more issues with other Japanese bikes over that same time frame funny enough. That being said, either the RSV or the Yammy is amazing, that's a win-win choice!

Yes they gave us the RC213V-S but it cost $184,000 LOL. I love my VFR800 but it's more of a sport-tourer than full on sportbike - it would be nice to have an extra 50 horsepower :-)

Thank you for the objective test guys. Love your magazine and this channel. Being objective is very important. But, I feel that your subjective opinions are just as important. Things like, which is your favorite and why? Which one is the most comfortable, most fun to ride, which one FEELS the fastest, most intuitive, etc. These things are important to an everyday rider otherwise I would just base my purchase decision on looking at the numbers. Would be nice if you could elaborate more on the esoteric side of things as well.

Hi Spoonman, our usual regular tests take everything into account, road, track, price, living with etc. But this is SBOTY, and that's different!

Ugh, I hate to bash hard work, but this video could have been SO much better. I only liked the professional footage edits and that the Aprilia won. So much information lacking about each bike. No distinctive intro leading into each bike test. People watch these types of video's for "information". This Shootout lacked in that department for my taste. Plus a majority of us don't really base our choice of bike strictly on lap times. REAL WORLD is where we ride. Also testers offering opinions of "bike styling" accounts for nothing. We all have differing tastes.

Hey, understand what you're saying. We do say at the beginning on the video that it's a behind the scenes look at what goes on at one of these group tests. This is primarily produced as a TV show to broadcast across Europe, the detailed information doesn't work very well. Also, this test was for the Fast Bikes magazine where you'll find all of the details. (Not a plug for the mag) Thanks for the positive feedback on the footage and editing.

I like the gxxer but how can it be 2nd with bad brakes? Last one I rode was 2013 and it was insanely fast. Felt much more powerful than the r1 in back to back (short test) ride and more comfortable riding position. R1 felt glued to the road though.

Nice to see Al back on some proper bikes. About the Suzuki, I just don't understand why they'd come with a full update and not re-do the brakes. Having said that I'm not surprised by the top three (the S1000RR is overdue for its own form of an update), but it's nice to have my opinion backed by sharp-edged, seasoned riders. #teamstatham

Hey guys, great video! This was fun and informative to watch. As a relative newcomer to both riding and watching MotoGP, I'm wondering if you can explain the disparity between the reviews that these production bikes get (and seem to deserve), and their racing team specific bikes performances in MotoGP. I understand that world class riders can make a difference, but that much? Aprillia bikes have been lucky to finish a race this year, BMW doesn't even bother competing, Suzuki have had few high placing finishes, and the podium has been dominated by Honda (whose bike you kinda described as "meh"), Ducati (who didn't even rate a discussion in this video, but got some nice wheelie shots), and Yamaha. Also: ELEPHANT DOOR!!!

Generally most reviews tend to run along similar lines and results, or very close to it. Only one place, for example, held the Honda up as the best - whereas almost every other one hasn't. So you do now and then get results out of kilter with everyone else. You really cannot compare racing success and production bikes though, be that BSB, WSB and certainly not MotoGP (as it's a prototype series). Maybe perhaps Superstock series bear some relation to how bikes stack up out of the crate, a bit, but racing is otherwise a completely different kettle of fish. Example - out of the crate a Kawasaki ZX-10RR is a stonking weapon, but it's not as good as at least five other bikes on the showroom floors. In racing though, the ZX is a beast, winning three out of the last four WSB titles, dozens of Superstock titles over the world, and doing bloody well in BSB and other national racing series. A huge well done to them for that, in racing trim she's a diamond - but that doesn't stop it from being a little behind the rest when the lights and indicators are on...

These shootouts are entertaining but there's nothing scientific about the results. Just some guys riding and sharing their personal opinions. Thanks for sharing

Fair comment, but it's also decades of experience testing bikes for a living talking, jumping on and off bikes over and over and over, week in week out, for over 15-years and more for just one tester alone. When it comes to 'chatting' about bikes, that kind of experience isn't just general yap, even if we do sometimes come across a bit casual about it, you're right!

why you guys (only) put 1 supersport bike among all those superbikes? is R6 that good that it's stack with the litre bikes? or it's because it's new?
@fastbikes7 жыл бұрын
We were supposed to have the new MV F3 675 there (and 800 and F4 RC), but MV pulled out at the last minute. R6 is a cracking little bike, more than deserves its place there, we all loved it.

I see, thanks for the response! the title is "sportbike" afterall, not superbike. nice review, I always been a fan of yamaha especially the R6 because I think superbike just too big for me

so, bike of the year is chosen off of one rider's style or opinion instead of a group of different riders testing the same bike? interesting.

I wasn't even thinking about the honda til i saw the sp in person 😍😚😚omg. I was like i feel in love for the first time one of the finest to come out of japan. I think a lot of people here haven't being riding long enough to know to go fast on a bike you must love the thing first. And mcn test road bikes the we buy not race bikes. Don't disrespect what you don't know. These machines are restriced on road tires.
