Bikepacking and Wild Camping The Kerry Way Ireland Part 1

The Kerry Way is a long distance circular walking trail located in Co. Kerry Ireland it is a distance of roughly 214 km. It begins and ends in the lovely picturesque village of Killarney. Mat and myself decided to try and cycle as much of it as possible within about 3 and a half days. Some parts it was impossible to cycle due to the terrain but we gave those parts ago at times. It looks like you had a fantastic trip so far, I'm looking forward to seeing part 2 of your Kerry Way trip. I have been running on the Kerry Way a few times and it's a tough tough route...probably one of the toughest routes you could have picked to bikepack! But if it was easy you wouldn't enjoy it as much...Fair play!!

@@theoutdoorsycrew1749 I sure do, I'm heading over to the West of Ireland this weekend to do the Clew Bay Bike Trail with my brother and 2 young nephews. www.clewbaybiketrail.ie We are all looking forward to it, the plan is to make a short video of the trip to look back on in years to come when everyone in older!

Hey Kyra thanks for getting in touch, Bridia's Gap is displayed in the video at 11:30 - 13:30. Just a reminder that this was the walking route that we attempted to cycle not the popular Ring of Kerry cycling route, as I do not recommend trying to cycle the Kerry Way walking route which is what we did. But if I have made a mistake and you do plan on cycling this route then be careful, and if your walking it then you should be fine. Such a beautiful ride! We are heading there in the spring! We'll mostly do the Kerry bike route but if you have any inputs on some part of the Kerry Way that are more gravel bike friendly, I'm all ears! 😊

Hey Joanie, Thanks for getting in touch as you can see from the videos I think we bit off more than we could chew. This is an absolutely lovely part of Ireland to visit and I hope you have a great time. To answer your question I take it you don't want to do anything to adventurous so my recommendations are so that you will only slightly come off the main cycling route but still have an enjoyable time. For reference use this map I find it the most detailed: www.sportireland.ie/outdoors/walking/trails/kerry-way So in map 1: I suggest to take the Kerry way route and then get back on the road at Torc waterfall. Map 6-8:Glenbeigh to Cahersiveen This is where we ended the first video and started the second so you can see what the terrain is like if your feeling a bit adventurous maybe try it. In map 8 there is a symbol just north of the track I would suggest getting back onto the N70 there and following it into Cahersiveen Map 21: You can see the path goes into a forest south of the road. We were not able to do it due to time constraints but I could see it from the main road and this is a regret I carry with me from this trip because it looked like a lovely path through the forest. Don't miss it is my advice. I hope this will be helpful for your trip. If you need anything else just shout. @@joanielachapelle4001 it will be just as good coming from Caherdaniel, it is gonna be a tough climb but you'll get there. There is beautiful views out to the sea of the skellig islands in the distance as you climb I'm sure you are gonna want to stop multiple times. There is a car park at the top of the climb definitely stop and take a look. You will then a lovely descent into waterville. I just hope you get clear nice weather for your trip it will make all the difference. Good luck on your trip I wish ye the best and im glad you got to enjoy the video. Hey Adam if you check the description there is a link to the map from sports Ireland website and in the video we went in an anti clockwise direction. I wish you lots of luck if you attempt it, it's a tough cycle give yourself a day or 2 more than we did so you can enjoy some of the villages and towns also beware of the midges ! Good luck.

Cheers Eddie, I used a gopro 8 and that is all I use really just because it is light weight and pretty durable. But just got a drone and am going to try it out this weekend so keep an eye out for future videos thanks for the question 👍
