3 weeks of bikepacking adventures in Iceland, just below the Arctic Circle. Hannes and Sandra explored this remote land in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, dominated by huge glaciers, ashen deserts, and mighty lava structures by bikes. After crossing the island from north to south (Iceland Divide), we also added the bikepacking.com route from Landmannalaugar to Skógar.
We hope you like the video and it motivates you to go out and explore the world by bike.

Thanks for the VERY BEAUTIFUL video of a wonderful bike trip in wonderful Iceland! But I was very surprised that you were following the pedestrian path from Landmannalaugar !!! How did you manage it ??? I was there on foot in 2019 and there are a lot of hard climbs and inability to cycle somehow! But you showed courage and courage! Especially big thanks to the girl! She is a real hero! Is there somewhere a detailed description of your impressions of this traversed path and more photos?

This is a section of the hiking path between landmanalaugar and the coast, at the very beginning. The cave is formed by a geyser in glacier. The cave is also on the hiking path but of track.

Hi guys, great video! I'm preparing for the same route, but next year. Would you recommend the Grand Canyon? Is there anything particular that I should be equipped with? Any general do's and dont's? Thx and best wishes!

This looks amazing Marlok! We are thinking about doing something similar. What do you say about mobile coverage under the trip did you guys only use your regular phones or anything else? Much appreciate all input here! Cheers, Johan

Thanks, great that you liked the video. There is nothing we would have done differently. One thing I would suggest is to visit some of the touristy spots. We were also concerned about the phone coverage with our regular phones but had a better signal than expected. Not being on your own, riding well within your limits and carrying sufficient supply will reduce the risk. In most sections the route is physically but not technically demanding and you will meet other travellers from time to time in case you need help. Have a great time!

Great video, solid trip! Thank you for sharing. Some questions about gear and what you took -- 04:48 is this dehydrated food or regular one from the shop? If the latter what is it exactly? What full length trousers did you take. And you took two pairs of shoes as I noticed, what were the warmer ones? Did you feel comfortable pedalling? I tried similar from Shimano but I barely could bend forward my foot at ankle. Thank you in advance for the info :-).

Thanks for your comment and your questions. Food: We use regular but organic instant food from the shops. The brand is a Davert and I am not sure whether it is available outside of Germany. It is not as high-calorie as expedition food, but not far off. To add some calories and flavor, we had a little bottle of olive and coconut oil, which we would mix with the food depending on the flavor. Clothing: For trousers we took OCK zip shorts and Vaude rain pants for the day and simple Decathlon full-length trousers for the night (my wife had an additional merino long base layer). For the shoes we use mountaineering/climbing approach shoes (Salewa and Hanwag both with GoreTex), paired with platform pedals. For us they are a comfortable and versatility compromise. Hope this info helps.

We were both running Continental Cross King. On the 29er it was the 2.3 wide Protection and on the 27,5 the 2,3 RaceSport. It was very good for the mixed terrain we were riding. Obviously fatbikes would have been nice, but don't be put off if you don't have one. We were riding with two french guys on a plus and on a fatbike for a couple of days, they were equally slow and we had just as much fun as they.

Hello Stefan, nice to hear from you. The way to Thorsmörk was a challenge, but definitely worth the effort. After two hard days we decided to bypass the last bit from Thorsmörk to Skogar, trading the hike-a-bike for the beautiful Seljalandsfoss. Unfortunately Sandra had problems with her knee, but with two restday and determination she pushed through. The whole trip took us 20 days including two rest days. Good to hear that our part-time companions made it safely to Reykjavik, we saw their entry into the book of an unstaffed hut just before Vik. Greetings from Stuttgart
