Dude, I did the same 2016! I know exactly what you did! ^^ And more. My route was pretty similar at first: Tokyo, Chichibu, Chino, Matsumoto, Takayama (you missed that beautiful town!, same climb to Hirayu-onsen though), Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, Mikuni, coastline to Biwa-ko (but I chose Hikone, the eastern side of the lake), Kyoto. After that I moved on to Uji, Nara, Osaka, Kobe, Himeji, back to Kobe, Back to Osaka, Kii peninsula at the coastline to Ise, Nagoya, Shizuoka, Fuji, Hakone, Kamakura, back to Tokyo. But, and thats the truth, I carried my stuff all the way in a travelbag I modified into a backpack on my back. I used a great carbon road bike Hikaru Utadas father bought me after he crashed my previous bike. ^^ Thats also not a joke! It took me 90 days and I experienced alot of great stuff on the way, too, like festivals, great people and breathtaking landscape and culture! I enjoyed the ride like you did!Great seeing people doing the same stupid things like me. ^^

How do you find these routes? I lived in Japan for 10 years in the 1990s but have been back in the US for 20 years. I will retire at the end of this year and move back to Japan and I plan on doing a lot of cycling, but I have to be honest. I really suck at directions and if I tried a long trip like this, I'd probably end up in Burkina Faso or something, unless I had it mapped out for me on a GPS.

I want to bike across Japan as a 'bucket list' idea. I am aware that Japan has some strict bicycle laws. What I would like to know is, is it better to bring my own touring bike from America to Japan or to rent to buy in Japan. And then, if I can bring my own bike, do I need to register it with the local Police; do I need to get a bike permit or license showing ownership? Then what exactly are the rules for foreign tourists who wish to tour Japan by bicycle; is there a group of riders, a club, a map of safe routes, camp sites, etc... if so, where can I obtain this info.

hi, can i ask you to tell me wich festival you attend who give you that stravagant " almost dope trip immagine ;) ". sorry in advance for my english
@JohnBr04 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋🏻! Your English is good 🙂👍🏻 We turned up in Japan with a general plan of ‘let’s ride from Tokyo to Kyoto - and let’s go through the mountains, not along the coast’. Then everyday - we picked a 50 mile route and did it. It was great fun not really knowing where we were going and bumping into things along the way. That said we did miss some epic things like highest the rideable pass in japan ‘Norikura Pass’. We missed this by a few miles as we hadn’t planned! 😕😊. The festival was called ‘Teamlab borderless’ and was unbelievable beautiful! Go see it if you ever go. Ride safe! Croatian? 😊 Bok 👋🏻! Vozite sigurno!

Bro this video is beautiful! Good work. Do you think if I did it, it would be possible with a hammock system? I have both a hammock and a tent, but the hammocks smaller ;)

In the mountains we had on night where it would have been tough with a hammock - It took us hours to even find a flat spot. But I'm sure you could have found somewhere - that's half the fun of it ;) Good luck / stay safe!

Hey dude! I'm about to head over to Japan to cycle a route that's basically the same as yours for the first half - except I loop back around from Mt Fuji and head back to Tokyo. It's my first time bike-packing - Is there any way I can get in touch with you? would love to get your insight/any tips.

Thanks! Yep - here: goo.gl/xkUJ8K We didn’t really plan anything. I’m sure we missed loads of amazing sights along the way. But it was all amazing to us tbh 😄

@@TomMorris-l8t don’t be scared of the mountains! They were so beautiful. I would try and find old mountain roads though - as they will have less cars 😄
