Great video lads, I did the same route over 2 days in May 2022. For anyone thinking about doing this ride, don't hesitate get it done. The scenery is amazing. You'll get to meet lots of friendly folks along the way. I cycled the first day from Liverpool to Blackburn and day two to Leeds.

Great video, evidence that you don't need to be an aspiring Boardman or Wiggins to do this ride and that normal lads can do it. I intend to do this for charity next year on my 17 year old Specialized Hardrock stopping over in Chorley and Kelbrook just past Foulridge. From watching your vid though I'll be retrofitting some suspension forks to my bike for the ride, but massive kudos to the chap tackling the terrain on the vintage Peugeot racer!

Duncan has my bike. Great wheels but looks like you had the 32mm Vittoria tyres on whereas I changed them to 35mm which I found was the widest width it can take of the Schwalbe anyway.

Nice ride out. I've done sections near Aintree etc a few times but never bikepacking. I do like the idea of bikepacking that type of jurney though. Is that tent a Vango Blade 100? I've the 200 but that looks a little smaller than mine. ATB Andy

Mate that's alot of miles on a bike with no suspension and really thin tyres. My backside hurts just watching ! Still looked a good trip though. Bikepacking interests me alot but still got to put some hours in to relieve the arse and lower back pain. Another top vid Dominic, hope you get back into making em again soon bud.

OutdoorEnthusiast101 looking back I think we both would have gone for different bikes, but sometimes is just a case of getting stuck in and making the most of what you have. Bikepacking is definitely something I want to do more of. Dominic

long live canal bike packing, done tons of it in the early noughties. didnt meet many doing it aswell i have to say. i done 68 miles in a day on that canal, Man i was a nutter in them days, taking it more slowly now. good job boys, K&A canal well worth a look, good for campsites and what i called lock sites. just remember to start at reading and go west, not other way round.

No probs mates, i just wish i'd filmed my trips and had the the benifit of youtube in them days, ive probably forhgotten half of it now. looking at the gear/bikes you got, you dont need any advice from me. promise u wont laugh, but i didnt even take a tent, i just gambled on the weather, slept in a football managers dugout/shelter near saltaire, shared a cow shed with cows near huddersfield. oh happy days. my best advice would be, dont do it like i did. fortuneatly with the aid of technology, electronic, and better camping gear. todays generation are somewhat more prepared than i was. the only tips n trick i can offer is good/bad canals to cycle. so message me anytime, and i'll see how much i remember. Great Vid Guys, how did you find the anti motorcycle gates? Last week I rode from Liverpool to Adlington on a quite heavy Hybrid and was worn out getting through them as my bars would not fit, I,m thinking of tackling the rest of it on a full carbon road bike with fatter tyres so i can lift it over, are there many gates like that after adlington??

Hi I'm running the canal at the end of August can you break it down as to what percentage of road surface it is mostly tarmac grass or tracks .... great video looks amazing

marc hewison it would be a great run, how many days will it take you? I would say about 20% road, 40% hard pack and 40% grass and mud. Are you trying to work out what shoes to use? Glad you enjoyed the video, Dominic

Brilliant trip video guys. Been looking to do this myself for a few years. Finally going to take the plunge in a few weeks. Was thinking train to Leeds the cycle back. In your experience which is the best way to go? Liverpool Leeds or Leeds Liverpool? Glad I saw you took 3 days. Was thinking I could do it in two but haven’t ridden for years. Clearly underestimated a bit lol. Any tips you could share. Cheers guys.

Leeds to Liverpool is better, short climb to Bingley then mainly downhill all way to Liverpool, you could do it in two days that way, have a good rest at half way point!

At age 65 I did the trip from Liverpool to Leeds in 3 days with my daughter but I wished after, we'd done it the other way!. I live in Wigan not far from the canal so we stopped at our house on the first night after doing the first stretch to Chorley 'Botany Bay', we made our 2nd stop at a Gargrave B'nB next to the canal, really enjoyed the trip overall but REALLY jiggered (worn out) at the end as I'm not an avid cyclist.

Domabventure We did it, 11 hours 48 minutes it took us. Sadly I couldn't really film any footage because the towpath literally shook my iPhone mount to pieces. I set up a Facebook page and put vlogs on so if you want I can post the link to that? I was fortunate to do this on a Specialized Hardrock with front suspension forks, you chaps must've been in agony afterwards, especially on those bikes you used and the stretch of towpath from Greenberfield to Skipton!

English woodsman it's a great route, you'll really enjoy it! I would recommend not using a road bike like I did (seems obvious looking back). Don't worry about taking lots of food and drink as there is plenty of places along the way for that. Dominic

Adam Colbeck we didn't book any campsite, we saw there was some on route and if they didn't have room or weren't open then we would wild camp along the way. Are you planning on cycling the route? Dominic

Adam Colbeck getting some canoes down it would be great! The is campsites along the way however most of them you will have a few mile walk to get them, maybe not great with canoes. I did see a few good wild camping spots along the way. Dominic

David Collishaw we didn't, I had a GPS from garmin with the OS mapping on. The route is very clearly marked so you wouldnt get lost. Dominic

no you misunderstand me, a waterways key opens the toilets, water and showers on the canal network. about a fiver and you don't need a boat, I did the route on the water last year and there are some good points to refresh before the nights camping.
