Bikepacking London to Surrey

A Film By Barry Godin - Bikepacking London to Surrey
Just a one night trip as a quick escape. But like so many of my adventures this one was not with out its challenging surprises. The route was a combination of the London Gravel Route from Hackney GT and the London to Brighton off road route.
There is a great sense of achievement having a local adventure and the feeling of riding from your door and see the buildings of the city start of disperse into countryside.

A nice little micro adventure. Shame about the drone . £500 wow that's expensive didn't realize they cost so much . I finally did a decent bikepacking trip with my mate. We cycled the Kattegat leden here in Sweden . We cycled over 400km in 3 days. We were out for a total of 4 days one of those was a rest day. We took the train from Gothenburg to Helsingborg and cycled back to Gothenburg. One of the best thing I have done .

Hey matey! Yes I just check out that route you rode, must of been so stunning, coast all the way, can wait to come over a ride there!!! Great to plan a rest day in there, enjoy the route and places :-) Oh yes the drone was expensive, but DJI has incredible customer service so £210 for replacement drone and battery, still money that didn't need spending

I’m sitting watching the rain bounce off the patio and up pops a BG vid. Shame about your drone but shit happens. Nice to see your GF out with you holding her own. Looking good out there BG’s GF, you go girl. I like your local(ish) films because I always recognise some of the places you’re passing through. Losing your drone is a bummer but look on it as time for an upgrade (no better excuse to buy a better one if you can in my book😉). Onwards and upwards Barry👍!

Hey Robert! Yes she did so well, even did some good mtb trails, she has the confidence. Also doesn't mind a pedalling day :-) Don't worry a drone replacement is on its way :-)

great little adventure and video BG - shame about the drone, gf has a cool bike with the basket out front - looks like a better solution than a bar bag! some of the trails are so overgrown at the moment -watch out for the stingers! cheers

Hey, yes the basket is good as can't bounce about, but does put the weight quite far out so can make the steering a little floppy. Oh yes it was super over grown and we were buzzing all over the legs

Great one night trip, its amazing how you can pack in so many sights and locations on just a one nighters! Great route ! I recognise that rollerball bit 😀 you even managed to get some naked wild swimming in which was a surprise ! 👍

Haha, the skinny dipping was a surprise to me, but honestly a welcome one, I think I will do it more often now, very refreshing! Yes these one nighters are great and pack as much adventure and sights in to a small package :-)

Hey Paul! Thanks so much! Yes was so wonderful to ride together and get an escape. Yes it was a bit pointless looking for it, neither of us could even get to the bottom and it probably had flowed downriver anyway, it is pretty light. Yes new one is on its way, not free but better price, DJI has amazing customer service

back to making an enjoyable bikepacking vid to watch, Barry. Stick to this you do a great job. a right mix of content and info than just thrashing around places most will avoid on bikes such as the Lakes and Peak District mountains

Above is the comment I came here to make. These sort of trips are much more accessible to "normal" cyclists such as myself and so this makes it more interesting viewing for me than your more frenetic trips up mountains. Keep up the great work.

Hey Stephen! Thanks so much for the comment, i totally get what you mean, but I have always prided myself on riding so many different disciplines and places. I love a front the door adventure, and may use these to do more tip videos, but I personally still need epic mountains and a blast on a proper trail :-) Will still cover everything, I hope you keep enjoying the adventures.

Your drone footage adds a lot, so I hope you sort something out (for yourself- not just your viewers) it's the drone to ground interface (as my geeky mate puts it) that puts me off buying one, and I know it will be down to operator error 😆. Nice to have a wee look at the hybrid as well, I know folks who swear by a basket, so your misses is in good company.

Thanks so much Andy!!! Yes a new drone is on its way, DJI does have excellent customer service. I had actually got quite good at the flying, so much flight time in the past few months, but one stupid manoeuvre and it goes wrong very quickly, haha

That's the problem with drones. Great for additional footage but expensive when things go wrong. Speaking as someone who watched my first drone, a DJI Phantom 3, throw a prop and crash in the next field from 200', totally ripping off the camera gimbal! Had to go on eBay as 'spares or repair'!

Yes, they are great footage, but as you say expensive also another thing to worry about. But I do think it is still worth it, it has added something extra to my films

@@vwsurfbum haha, honest answer, i thought what a cool shot flying under a small low bridge we were standing on, so i could not see underneath it, just the screen. I was flying it under, and stupidly readjusted it a little higher, clipped the bridge and it stopped dead and plopped straight in. When it hit was water all the connections died and it was gone forever. So i would sum this up to user error ;-) have learnt an expensive lesson, no more flying under tiny bridges :-( haha
