Love my Soloist and Hunka by Alpkit, super reliable kit. I am also 6 2 so I use the XL in both and there is a lot of extra room.

Excellent video! Just getting into bikepacking myself and your info was really useful. Question - do you use the stuff sac that comes with the alpkit sleeping bag, or just put the bag straight into the bar bag? I have the pipedream 400

Hi Ian 😊 I’m glad you found the video helpful! I make sure the handlebar bag is nice and clean inside and the bag goes straight into it 👍🏻 Hope that helps and that you have some great trips!

Brilliant..one of the best pack out breakdowns I've seen! Such a good post. I did have to laugh when I saw you'd purchased the same sea to summit sleep mat as I had. I still, to this day, find myself (internally) justify such an extravagant purchase; every time I look at it.🤣 And that you have the Alpkit Soloist! I've been trying to get one all year. Alpkit have sold out and when I enquired earlier this year, they told me they were sold out and wouldn't be restocked until the end of June. I've other tents, but after much research and watching reviews; the Soloist is to be my chosen tent for bikepacking..When Alpkit get their finger out! But seems a great tent..great minds think alike eh!? Out of interest, what made you go for the Soloist? Where there any other tents that you considered? And what do you think of it now after using it? And if you don't mind me inundating you with questions (sorry🙄) Do you have any obvious pros and cons? Such a good post..well done!👍

I was the same when I bought that sleeping mat but having been out in some very cold weather it’s worth every penny I think 👌🏻 I went with the soloist based upon reviews on the Alpkit website. I think their gear is really good and at a great price point. It’s lightweight, well made, takes no time at all to put up / pack away, and the XL version which I use allows for a bit more storage inside and the porch also. I would hold out for one if you can wait haha 🤪 I should probably do a video review if it to be honest… No real cons really. Not that I’ve discovered so far! I’ve just completely redesigned my website (www.thebikepackingdad.com) and I’ve created a forum. Not sure if you’d be willing to pop questions on their as I would love to test it’s functionality out!!

@@thebikepackingdad The page won't load! It says that it's not a secure site and isn't encrypted! I'm a bit techno-useless, so don't know if I'm doing something wrong! No idea what encryption on an email address is???🤫

@@timporter8886 that is strange. I’ve just had a friend check it and all is in order. I’m not amazing with tech either but maybe it’s a security thing on your end 🤷🏼‍♂️ A firewall for unknown sites maybe? Can you access the website at all?

@@thebikepackingdad I don't have a computer, so the only way I can access the internet is on my mobile telephone. I've just tried again. Went onto Google, typed email address in (it actually comes up before I finish typing. Tried to click on the link that comes up, and to click on my fully typed link. Either way the same page comes up; not allowing me on!?!?

Now this is just my opinion but rather than buy overshoes invest in a decent pair of winter boots for the crap weather. I’ve been using Fizik Articas for road and Tera Artica GTX for off road best investment ever. Now throw away your FS260 you looked frozen in the Tala video and get a jacket like the 7Mesh Skypilot jacket not cheap but it will keep you bone dry and warm it’s worth having a hood if your doing cold weather riding. I also have a gore shake dry but use it for road. Something I just discovered the other day from an ultra cyclist is the Apidura Packable Musette so well designed and folds down tiny attaches to tge bike great for picking up supplies.

Morning 😊 I did eventually buy some Northwave Arctic GTX boots which are far better coupled with some good socks! That little jacket is good but I do need a more insulated one for sure. I would love a Gore Wear shake dry but it’s a little bit out of budget for me at present. I’ll definitely add these products to my ever expanding list of Bikepacking gear though. Thanks for the recommendations 👌🏻

Don’t wait too long to get a ShakevDry as they are stopping making them. If you search you will get a good deal, Sigma were doing them half price earlier in the year. I can recommend the 7Mesh one very robust and designed for gravel.
