I second this. I like this format and your style with it because it’s really the only way to tease out the differences in the bikes. Individual reviews can all start to sound the same. Pretty much all the bikes from reputable brands at the same price point and travel are good bikes. Reading four reviews about how each is “plush but lively” and “poppy but still planted” isn’t super helpful, but stacking them side-by-side and describing how each company biases their bikes for slightly different styles is really helpful. Your videos have really helped me nail down that I’m an Ibis-style rider, kind of independently of the segment of bike.

@@bikersedge Yeah, there aren't, especially for 3000$. But still, somehow it was easy to find myself in your review for each bike(what I had now and what I wanted in the future), and decided on the Orbea. Think that is the best thing about your reviews. And thank God someone still takes uphill with the same importance factor as the descents while talking about 140mm travel. Keep up the good work guys, especially answering all the questions in the comments section and putting real weight numbers! When you have a 6-7km uphill to the top, 36lbs of the Hightower becomes noticeable!

i have the occam M30 (carbon frame, slx/fox performance spec) and i have to say better tyres (magic mary, hans damf f and r) have REALLY helped expand its potential. You were right in saying this bike is FAST. The bigger tyres make it much more surefooted and very, very capable - even with 140mm rear travel. Imo it also really aids its incredible climbing ability.

Great review however I have to call you guys out on a very very very important detail that you didn't mention. The Ripmo AF is the only bike to offer a coil shock as an upgrade and for only $100.00 US. The Orbea offers a shock upgrade to the Fox DPX2 but it's $250.00. I also know that the Ripmo AF comes with Stan's Sealant to setup tubeless right out of the box but do not know about the other bikes.

Excellent set of reviews and roundtable discussion. I own the Reign 29 2 and was wondering what your thoughts are on the Yari fork? I haven't had the pleasure of riding a Lyrik and I was wondering if the getting the Charger upgrade was worth it to help small bump compliance and manage big hits better. Is there a major difference in performance between the motion control and charger or does it come down to more adjustability?
@bikersedge4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. I think you could probably tell a very slight difference in the two in small bumps like you said. I don’t think you’d notice any difference in big hits. The biggest factor would be adjustability. Personally I don’t tinker with my suspension all that much so I don’t miss the high end stuff. I’d rather ride it than mess with it in the garage.

That's how you do a bike review, well-done guys. I researched a ton of bikes in this category and after careful consideration landed on the Occam. Specialized is out of stock on the 2020 Stumpie ST Comp Alloy 29 ($3,020.00), so I needed to find a worthy replacement I could actually buy right now (buying a new bike is like trying to buy physical gold right now, supplies all dried up and everybody wants one!). A bike shop in the bay area turned me on to the Occam. this was among the reviews that helped seal the deal. Plus they gave me a price on the Occam M30 carbon frame w/ Shimano SLX that's so ridiculous it wouldn't be fair to post it publicly. The stoke is strong in me right now ;) BTW Im sure many others would be super interested to hear your opinions vs the equivalent 2020 Stumpie ST Comp Carbon 29 ... its similarly specced to the M30 ($3,999.00) but goes for $521 more retail ($4,520.00). Have you ridden them both and whats the major differences if any?

Given how rowdy the Ripmo AF is designed to be, I suspect groupset and brakes will be the first two things replaced on it, hence the cost cutting of running NX and Guide T. I would expect most Ripmo AF NX builds to end up running GX on NX cassette and either SLX or XT 4 pots or Code RSCs within half a season, seems you're mainly buying the Ripmo AF NX build to get the frame and DVO suspension.
@bikersedge4 жыл бұрын
That’s a solid point. The groupset was fine. Didn’t really see a need to upgrade that, but I’d certainly be upgrading brakes. The guide Ts can’t hang.

H20 model specifically comes with a Fox 34 and two piston brakes and the lightweight tires - we tested these bikes as is. You can get other models with a 36 but they aren't $3000. I'm 6'2 and my local bike shop has one Orbea for 3k. However, it is large. I explained that I was recovering from a recent back surgery and he suggested that the L would probably be better suited for my condition, being a more upright ride. Is he on to something or just trying to make a sale? Great review btw!

About the reign I'm looking for this bike I'm around 1.80 about 5.10.5 the thing is the sizing because from Medium to large there's a huge jump right now I'm in a 2016 specialized enduro 29 large reach is 445 it feels good some people say that reign medium is small and they jump to large I'm in a tuff situation here
@bikersedge4 жыл бұрын
That’s been one of our hang ups with the Reign too. Big jumps in the sizing. Do you have access to demo one?
@carlyzf2504 жыл бұрын
Im 5.10 and got the large and can't fault it. My mate is also 5.10 and he got the medium and is happy with that. It depends what kind of riding you do..I wanted to upsize as I enjoy steep technical stuff and bike parks. If you want to hit trail centres medium might be better

Hey guys, What tyres would you recomand for Orbea H20? What tyre would roll a bit faster and would make it great on all terrain?
@bikersedge6 ай бұрын
Tough to find “fast rolling” and “great on all terrain.” There are always compromises. A dissector/rekon combo could be good. Or double dissector.
@velomaniaromania6 ай бұрын
@@bikersedge bike comes with 2.4 dissector in front, but was also thinking at agressor 2.5 but that would be wider then 2.4 dissector... When comes about rekon or ardent looks one of fastest but with lack of breaking :)

Like the way he says 3000 dollars a budget bike!
@bikersedge4 жыл бұрын
I figured someone would call us out for that. I agree with you. I think it’s funny that $3000 can be considered a budget bike too. But in reality, for a decent full suspension bike that’s going to hold up to seasons of riding, it’s going to cost pretty much $2500-$3000. Considering top tier bikes can run over $10,000 these days, $3,000 doesn’t seem all that bad by comparison.

It seems like most of the bike shop brands are offering a pretty solid bike at the $3000 price point. They have to in order to be competitive with the D2C brands. Since we are a bike shop we’re not able to make videos with the D2C brands. We just don’t have access to them.
