Maybe not so much keeping melted parts for aesthetic but he could hands down preserve the paint job with the scorching and carbonized burn spots. Otherwise a brand new realistic on fire or smoldering paint job would be epic just because of the story and still allow the bike to look pristine

That Norton electric bike in your storage was quite impressive. Most EVs have at least some "phantom drain" on the battery that would have "bricked" the battery within two years if not plugged into a wall outlet during that time. These "modern classic" 865 Twins obviously lend themselves to Cafe Racer, Bobber and Scrambler Builds. Triumph basically offered those styles from the factory (Thruxton, Bonneville Bobber, Scrambler) All of the above types of build could also work really well with a "rat" bike style imho. But they also have been done A LOT - I don't know what that and a rat bike style (which is not exactly flashy) would mean for your chances at winning. It would mean TONS of resources and hopefully easier to source parts and stuff. There are two types of builds I always thought would be great for a modern classic from Triumph. A Bonneville build that looks like one of the bikes used for the early land speed records - the ones that don't look like spaceships. After all, that is where the Bonneville got her name. Or a 60s, 70s, or maybe even 80s race bike style fully fared build. (Yes, i know the XSR900 exists.) Both, especially the latter, way harder to do. Personally I'd love to see a rat bike "crispy critter" Bobber or Cafe Racer - Keep as much patina (aka damage XD) as possible and just make it nice to ride. Disclaimer: My only Qualification is being European and having owned & ridden Triumphs (including '04 865 Thruxton)

I am totally excited about the bike build challenge and I totally agree with you not to mess up a fully functional bike, but I am honestly in doubt that the structural parts e.g. like the frame and the fork kept their strength after the heat impact. Are you going to make sure that the parts you are going to reuse are in adequate (technical, metallurgical) condition? For example the handlebar and attachments, I would directly throw these away. These are safety critical. Same with the fork bridges. Maybe also the fork itself... Nothing much left to be used to my opinion. At the other hand, if the bike is not going to take miles and just designated to be a showpiece that doesn't matter. Excited to follow your build! Thanks for sharing.

While taking on that bike just as a channel project might have been fun I think using it as the basis for your build-off bike is a mistake. That thing needs a full tear down to bare frame, inspection/repair/refurb of every single component and only then can you start putting it back together. That's a LOT of work for something that is supposed to be the basis for a build project.
