Gotta be cafe racer style for the triumph imo, how about restomod? upside down forks, clip ons, ohlins reservoir rear shocks, mv augusta or similar front light, classic cafe racer hump fairing on the rear, modern 3 or 5 spoke wheels, cnc rear sets, shorty pipe.

I think discovery was also just really good at showing us all the drama and craziness cause that’s what sells. Sr definitely had his fair share of anger issues but i doubt his day to day life was as full of it as the show lead us to believe.

Yet he still takes things too seriously. He is just insufferable; even if a situation was perfect - he would find something wrong with it, even if he had to make it happen. That fire is something else completely and by the looks of the restaurant and the expanding shop - I 'd say he still has that and is applying it better than that TV show ever did.

The burnt aspect might be a blessing. If you're going to build something custom you'd probably need to fab new lines and harness anyway, this way you can focus on the structure then run lines and electrical around that. Be creative, go crazy. Make it spit flames, since it came from the fire let it bring the fire! +

It would be so cool to just embrace the fire that this bike has been in. Include it in the design, meybe some melted plastic parts, dripping stuff, it would give it so much character, definitely one of a kind opportunity
@SomebodysNephew
@SomebodysNephew Ай бұрын
Maybe not so much keeping melted parts for aesthetic but he could hands down preserve the paint job with the scorching and carbonized burn spots. Otherwise a brand new realistic on fire or smoldering paint job would be epic just because of the story and still allow the bike to look pristine

That Norton electric bike in your storage was quite impressive. Most EVs have at least some "phantom drain" on the battery that would have "bricked" the battery within two years if not plugged into a wall outlet during that time. The fact that you still have 99% full battery after 2 years makes me want to go out and buy one of those.

These "modern classic" 865 Twins obviously lend themselves to Cafe Racer, Bobber and Scrambler Builds. Triumph basically offered those styles from the factory (Thruxton, Bonneville Bobber, Scrambler) All of the above types of build could also work really well with a "rat" bike style imho. But they also have been done A LOT - I don't know what that and a rat bike style (which is not exactly flashy) would mean for your chances at winning. It would mean TONS of resources and hopefully easier to source parts and stuff. There are two types of builds I always thought would be great for a modern classic from Triumph. A Bonneville build that looks like one of the bikes used for the early land speed records - the ones that don't look like spaceships. After all, that is where the Bonneville got her name. Or a 60s, 70s, or maybe even 80s race bike style fully fared build. (Yes, i know the XSR900 exists.) Both, especially the latter, way harder to do. Personally I'd love to see a rat bike "crispy critter" Bobber or Cafe Racer - Keep as much patina (aka damage XD) as possible and just make it nice to ride. Disclaimer: My only Qualification is being European and having owned & ridden Triumphs (including '04 865 Thruxton)

I am totally excited about the bike build challenge and I totally agree with you not to mess up a fully functional bike, but I am honestly in doubt that the structural parts e.g. like the frame and the fork kept their strength after the heat impact. Are you going to make sure that the parts you are going to reuse are in adequate (technical, metallurgical) condition? For example the handlebar and attachments, I would directly throw these away. These are safety critical. Same with the fork bridges. Maybe also the fork itself... Nothing much left to be used to my opinion. At the other hand, if the bike is not going to take miles and just designated to be a showpiece that doesn't matter. Excited to follow your build! Thanks for sharing.

You should build a theme firetruck! Full circle and keep some of the Petina.

It's great that you chose a British Icon for your build

While taking on that bike just as a channel project might have been fun I think using it as the basis for your build-off bike is a mistake. That thing needs a full tear down to bare frame, inspection/repair/refurb of every single component and only then can you start putting it back together. That's a LOT of work for something that is supposed to be the basis for a build project.

Gotta say I'm excited for Paul Sr to build a metric bike. And I respect that you DIDN'T go with a BMW because although they make some of the best cafe racer builds (and bobber build for the R1200C), it's kinda of.....overdone lol Looking forward to see what you can do with a British bike. Funny enough, the only thing you CAN'T do with it is turn it into a cafe racer, cause then it would just be stock XD

love how in the begining of the video you made him look like the aggressor while clearly you attacked first.

Think about the theme of the build. Build the frame and fit the engine/trans into the frame. Build your specialties that the theme requires. One step at a time. Do some drawings and have working measurements for the powerplant and the rider height. Go from there!

Because this bike was in a fire you should do a tribute to that. Red with flames. Maybe some metal cut to make it look like it was destroyed in the fire. But of course running like a dream.

If I were senior I would probably make an old school chopper out of a Honda 650 or 750. Like the old choppers. Pretty sure that would be the cheapest way to go

This is a great opportunity to replace all electrics with a Motogadget M-Unit Blue ! They have everything for lights, starter, ignition, alarm, switches, indicators, etc. It will save you lots of money and headache!
