The comments here are so depressing. The hosts give a clear disclaimer in the beginning explaining exactly how the models were chosen, and yet probably half the comments are asking where the Street Triple, Brutale, Shiver, etc are. FFS people, just enjoy the comparison. And for all you saying [Insert Favorite Bike] would win if it were included, then why even bother watching? If your favorite bike is the best in it's class, in your mind, why watch a comparison video? Could it be vanity? You need to constantly validate what you already believe. Come on. Have some class and open your mind.

@@MrSiestaFiesta Reduces the margin for error when evaluating the bikes performance. Since tyres are disposable and can be easily switched out it makes sense to have as little variables to the bikes as possible without going into the hardware. In principle you are right since they are part of the "package" but too many companies use aggressive tyres to offset any mechanical weaknesses of the bike and exploit aggressive tyres to achieve better lap times.

@@MrSiestaFiesta The Z900 comes with somewhat shitty Dunlops that are not even manufactured by Dunlop. Other things you mentioned are not really affecting the performance on the street that much.
@benjaminkubascronin30825 жыл бұрын
@@MrSiestaFiesta You're right, it's a valid point, though bikes can come on so many different OE tyres depending on region. And they vary so in quality, many towards the shitty variety. From a testing perspective it's unbelievably frustrating doing a group test and one of the bikes is on awful OE hoops, and the rest are decent or acceptable fare. You can feel it's capable of more but you're hamstrung by grip and can only assess the bike up to a certain point of involuntary pant staining. It really winds up the racer journos a treat! Yep, the manufacturer makes their choice and that's on them, but it's not fair on the bike. Some of the older ZX-10s came on appallingly poor OE rubber, we'd all bitch about them but they came alive whenever you stuck an AM tyre on. By that time though the group test is done, and the bike has suffered in it due to tyres. As an ideal I'd like every group test to be on a single pair of tyres. It's probably the biggest variable which affects every single other component and what it's able to deliver, so cancelling the differences out allows a more thorough examination of the bikes' capabilities. But, still important to test the bikes on whatever OE rubber that's fitted in your territory (first in launches or solo reviews) before a group outing, you're absolutely spot on and nobody will stop doing that. I guess it can affect buying decisions in some cases, what a bike rolls on. It's getting better though, especially on sporty stuff, several come on good gear out of the crate these days :-)

Wouldn't the mt-07 and the z650 be the middleweights?
@kleinbottled795 жыл бұрын
As I watch this, I realize the bikes are well chosen for comparison. Reasonably close in cost and raw performance numbers. Likely to be cross shopped. Its just hard for me to think of 800-900cc machines as middleweight. In the world of 1290 Dukes I guess it's all about context.
Remember that engine size is not all, if you jusge the bikes by power mt-07 and z650 stay way behind, all the engines on this comparison have 100-130 horsepower. mt-07 and z650 have 75 and 67. What I'm wondering is why the Street Triple RS 765 was not in the test, it would have totally destroy all the other bikes.
@Stratocasterhead515 жыл бұрын
@@KafkaesqueRider Yeah having ridden both the z650 and the z900 you cannot put them in the same category. Even if it is hard to accept that a 950cc z900 is a "middleweight" Rofl. The z650 and the mt 07 i would consider entry level bikes. Alongside things like the z400 and a yamaha R3. Z900 is much closer to a z1000 in terms of performance. Striple RS : 10.3 Grand is out of place with the rest of the bikes save the Monster. Indeed a comparison with the 821 stealth would be interesting (and one sided towards the striple). Maybe the Standard Striple would be a good match for the rest of the bikes.
@eduardopalma58015 жыл бұрын
@@Stratocasterhead51 Totally agree with you, funny thing is how prices change in different countries, for example, in Mexico City MT09 is more expensive than the Striple RS (MT09 $240,000 Mexican Pesos = about 13,000USD) (STriple RS 225,000 MX Pesos = 12,000USD) yet Yamaha is one of the brands who sells more bikes in the country. Also for Mexico we consider 'entry level' any small displacement bike for example, Yamaha R15 or Suzuki GSX-R150 along with Indian brands like Bajaj or TVS. z650 and mt07 are 'middle weight'. STriple RS, mt 09, monster 821, etc, are some kind of 'Light heavyweight' and anything beyond that is 'Heavy weight'.

Up to 300-400 CC is small, 600 - 700 cc for middle weight, 900 cc and above for a big bike category, no? Toss in a Brutale 800, Shiver 900, Street Triple 765R, and a GSX-S750. But it's difficult to round up everything for a good test. Good decision on running the same tires across the board! I had a Z900 (non-ABS), I got a MT-09 currently. Frankly, love things about both of them. Hard to beat that butter smooth Z900 engine, it's fueling is just perfect as stock. MT-09 suspension frustrates me for opposite reasons the Z900 frustrated me. Flabby and soggy vs. overly harsh and bucky. Both bikes really need a few thousand thrown in the aftermarket to really make them beautiful. MT-09 engine vibrates kind of unpleasantly (although tolerable) as compared the buttery Z900.

If rider and pillion both are small, then MT also feels good but still not as good as KTM.....

Anil Kumar My wife and I are not the smallest but we have found the ktm to work great even on 200 mile trips . It's not just the comfort for pillions it's the actual getting on an off in relation to the rear peg positions .when testing out the bikes my wife really struggled on the Kawasaki and the triumph .we also tried a Yamaha tracer which my wife could not even get on lol .Bmw f800 gt was good for a pillion also . I have top box and a larger screen with soft panniers if going on longer trips and the 790 works great and imho it only lacks at the top end by a small margin ,but in the real everyday use you do not notice .

Kawasaki hands down. Cheapest bike. Cheapest maintenance. Build quality is better. In the U.S. you'll be hard pressed to find the Ducati and KTM. So good luck finding quality service. Yamaha has a nice engine but piss poor fuel mapping and cheap build quality. Kawasaki being cheapest lends more money for better upgrades. Ducati Brembo brakes but no steel braided lines?! WTF?! Aside from that, sorry but Bridgestone tires suck. Pirelli all day. Even a set of Angel GT are better than Bridgestone, which somehow come stock on most U.S. bikes, which sucks. That aside as well, I'd smoke all those bikes on my Ninja 1000. Maybe I'd even take off my luggage to properly spank them. If he likes the KTM for it's light weight he should spend time on a MT-07 instead. Owned one for a year and it's pure hooligan. Snatchy but fun. If I had to buy a Ducati I'd go for an older 796. More fun wrenching out a throttle than holding back. But then I own a 1986 SRX 600, which at a wet weight of 287lbs. is just a blast to wring out all day long. KTM are the most uncomfortable seats known to man. He needs to spend more than an hour on the MT-09. Then he'll know it sucks as well (as does the MT-07). Ducati is comfortable but they don't know what luggage is unless you say Multi Strada. I preferred the Z800 over the Z900. The 900 is just an under bored, under stroked version of the Z1000. Same engine really.
@spoonman735 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Bridgestone sucks. The Z800 is better looking too. And yes, the Ninja 1000 is faster, more comfortable, better wind protection, better rider and passenger ergos and I get compliments all day long on it. With a full system and an Ivan's tune it is even sweeter.

@@spoonman73 I bought the 2011 model when it came out. I put a full Akropovic dual exhaust race system on it, Pazzo levers, Sargent seat, Puig windscreen with MRA deflector. When I bought it the only options were heated grips and Givi factory bags (which I think were nicer than the current angular looking bags. Easy on, easy off.). Of course I got the grips and the side cases - for some reason the design of the rack systems doesn't allow for both side and top cases at the same time, back then. I ended up selling the bike due to hard times but a few months ago I saw a used one with 15,000 miles on it (same as my old bike) bone stock except he put frame sliders on it. Got Akropovic megaphones on it now...lol. Needs a throttle body sync done. Was a tad surge-y when I bought it. Just planning to get a rear rack from SW-Motech and the flat platform for soft luggage. Right now, and for many years, I have been using Nelson Rigg sport touring tail bag - love it. Traded the MT-07 in on this one, even trade. I have the Pirelli ST's on it but on my 1986 SRX600 I have some Conti Attacks and really like them so I might try those on the next swap. I think Conti had a bad wrap for a while but these seem really nice to me. Yeah, heated grips in Florida - you'd be surprised.

Great video and great detail on the bikes, ive had a 790 since march of last year and i picked it because it was best bang for buck, and the light weight and amazing handling really carves up the street. Just need to give it some different tyres and better looking mirrors and its good to go. (Stock exhaust while it looks meh, does give off an amazing sound so it depends on people who want to buy a different can) I did consider an MT09 and street triple but for the price of a 790 i have everything i need and no more that i can ask for. Anymore power an ill just get a sport bike instead of moving up since the duke is a daily driver that feels great and when i really do need to give it the beans it does oblige. Maybe perhaps a trade up to the 890 when it come out is in order?

Yamaha, for reliability. I raced my friend's 1199 with my fz6r after work one night. I beat him real bad. I texted him after I got home, he had given up trying to start it and got his wife to pick him up.

It’s no question which bike got the better electric system. You also forgot to mention on the 790 that the traction control can be set between 1-8 and the fact that it has launch control. And not to forget about the price. The Ducati is much more expensive, and if i remember correctly, the quick shift is extra equipment that must be bought

MT09 weighs 40 pounds less with 100cc more displacement. It's not even close and is much faster. It is more comfortable and almost the same price which is why it is vastly outselling both the GSX and the Z.

I really hoped the st3 765 would be a proper naked bike but the engine is still lacking torque compared to the mt09, the st3 may handle much better but the engine feels too much like the d675 and it is pretty ZzZzZz :P
@fyorbane5 жыл бұрын
On a race track and in overall handling yes but it has the smallest engine and lacks grunt compared to the others here. You've got to rev the RS to get it to perform [though perform it does]. It is also alot more expensive than the others apart from the 821. The engine is in a much higher state of tune. Personally for the road the R is the better bike. More power and grunt lower down but still matches the Z900 for top end wack.
@exothermal.sprocket5 жыл бұрын
Other reviews picked the 790 over the Triumph, stating that the handing on the Triumph felt sluggish in comparison.
@Pillokun5 жыл бұрын
@@exothermal.sprocket I really dont trust reviewers that much. I have been burned too many times believing what they say. Triumph Bonneville/thruxton a modern handling bike? yeah sure if it was late 80-early 90s.. They constantly change opinion on how comfortable the old panigale was on the road. was it too race oriented or not? Mt09 was it actually too jerky throttle wise and was the suspension that bad? Tonono v4, is it a the best naked bike or is it just the best naked superbike? There is a difference there. You got to try out the bikes yourself because many times what reviewers say seems not accurate especially if the bike clicks with you. Bike = highly personal. The "Scalpel" probably is a well handling bike because of its design (true street bike) but the st3 765 is not an D675 frame anymore as it is higher(nimbler at slower speeds) and it is lighter, but yeah up to certain speed the 790duke should be more nimble but I have yet to see for myself, and that is the most important thing.
@exothermal.sprocket5 жыл бұрын
@@Pillokun I've ridden well over 50 bikes, owned 10 (one at a time), maintained my own stuff. I've worked at a dealership for a short time in service and parts. 790, MT-09, Z900, GSX-S750 are all bikes I've ridden. I can attest the 790 is ridiculously stable and light and torquey, feels like a BMX with a small V8. I've not had the pleasure of taking out any Triumph, but I have seen the internet bragging and fawning over the Street Triple for many years. 765 being a really nice update. Yet, veteran publications that ride EVERYTHING and for much longer than myself, who rode the 765R and 790 back to back on the street and the track have said the 790 feels easier to chuck around and makes bigger power below 9k rpm. Is what it is. 790 isn't lacking any technology either, short of cruise control.

I've tested the MT09 SP, i really wasn't a fan. I can see on track how it would be fun but on a bumpy road it was horrendous. I have a Monster 1200 S which i absolutely love but can't speak for the 821. Haven't tested the Kawasaki but i have tested the KTM 790 duke and it was an absolute right laugh. Really smooth and also quite versatile. You don't alway have to ride like a hooligan but when you want to it was ready for it ha. Out of these four it would be the KTM for me from my own experiences.
