They are all expensive. If you're in the market, the Ducati is a viable option. Personally I like the KTM machines a little more for their offroad heritage and know-how. But the Ducati is also appealing for sure.

Owning the the original Enduro my only criticism I have of the bike is that its top heavy. However, I tried all the other big adventure bikes within this genre and non of them can put a smile on my face like the Ducati Multistrada Enduro can. Like everything in life it’s subjective in what you like and what you think an item is worth but this bike is a complete all rounder that can be all things to all riders✌️🇮🇹😎

That was a great, detailed and to the point review, as always, john. Thanks for talking about the price and service intervals. I can't afford one either, and having no clue whatsoever about offroad, I wouldn't ride one of these anywhere near a dirt road except at a very leisurely pace. The conundrum about bikes in this weight and price class, I think, is that they almost all have the very latest in electronics, suspension and various other aids, and while the BMW has an advantage in the low centre of gravity, it's not much lighter, more comfortable to ride (or pick up if you drop it) or any more reliable. And they are all expensive (BMW, KTM, Triumph, Ducati especially, but also Honda). So, at the end of the day, it often comes down to brand loyalty and awareness, and judging by sales stats, at least here in Switzerland where they are openly published each month and people have the money to afford these things, along with a nice comfy garage to keep them in, that's exactly how they sell. BMW up ahead as usual, then Honda, then KTM, Ducati and Triumph bringing up the rear. I'd also like to point out that Boorman and McGregor had along a camera crew and support and had to load their bikes on trucks at certain stages. Navigating mud paths and dropping these bikes numerous times a day would be extremely strenuous for anyone and extremely few people who can afford these bikes ever ride them off road at all. I actually think Yamaha's much derided Tenere 700 would be a far better bike for actual long distance off road riding.

The proper "ride off road" weight is based on 2 things. How skilled (strong?) the rider is and how tough / technical the course. Could I ride this thing on a motocross track? Yea, I think I could. Would I do better with a bike that weighs 200+ lbs rather than 550+ lbs? Hell yea.

@johnhogan81776 жыл бұрын
John Roberts hard to say. If you’re tall you might find the 1200 Enduro suits your body size. If you can swallow the difference in price, you might prefer the idea of owning a bike from new. Got to be worth a back to back test ride, or at the very least a sit on both before you decide. I rode both and would be happy on either on the road, I got on better with the shorter, newer model off road.

Charlie and Ewan had a shit ton of problems because of their choice of bike and the amount of gear they packed. If I recall Ewan snapped the subframe of his GS (!!!!) because it was too overloaded. I'm pretty sure if they went with an f650gs or 640 adventure they would have had a far less "eventful" adventure.

i really don't like that they're taking height out of the bike. it reduces groundclearance and reducing the handle-bar height makes it less ergonomic for riding standing up. changing the rubber thickness on the footpegs doesn't do anything, you take those out anyways. Imho, if anything , they should have made the suspension stronger (bottoms out when you're jumping around)

A big trailie that performs like a sports bike. Apart from the cost for me there is nothing I dont like about this bike. One bike that does it all, this one would be it. Ok, like most all rounders there are other bikes that do certain specialised things better.

Bike World. Indeed Charley Boringperson did have lots of fun riding his 300Kg BMW on the road of bones, you are quite right. However, you failed to mention that he was riding with two other people and a 4 WD carrying a 4 man support team just a few miles behind him if he needed to pick the fucking thing up. Incidentally, am I the only person who spotted that the support truck had an entire rack of BMW tyres on it with different type of tyre for every condition on it? Please tell me that you noticed it too and that every time the terrain changed so mysteriously did the tyres. LOL! Look we could all ride half tonne bikes if we had an army of supporters behind us but normal people like me ride around the world on our own which is why we ride bikes like KTM690 or Yamaha WR250R. Also I note that none of you 'testers' ever take into account that when you ride RTW you are carrying at least 25KG of an extra weight called luggage?

@johnhogan81776 жыл бұрын
Michael Lovell honestly, that’s my gauge for off road riding on new bike launches. I ask myself if I could ride a sports bike on the trails we go on. There’s no way a sports bike would have managed the off road ride that we did.
@michaellovell25186 жыл бұрын
@@johnhogan8177 LOL, challenge accepted! I'm a "hold my beer" sort of guy, with over 50 years worth of scars to prove I'm just stupid enough to try it. I was told by some dirt bikers that there was no way I could get a Rebel 250 to the end of the trail they were taking once. I had to get off and lift/drag it over a few obstacles, and I ate shit a few times, but I met them at the end of the trail. Sure, they got there about an hour ahead of me, but I did make it. The main reason I say I'm not sure I would take that bike anywhere I wouldn't take my Ninja is weight. Neither has an "ability to ride pretty much anywhere" in my view. I'll take the Rebel places I would never take the Ninja, simply because I can get the Rebel back on the rubber so much more easily. For off roading (*REAL* off roading), I want a bike that weighs no more than 300 lbs, preferably with some suspension travel, knobbies, and ground clearance. I would give up any of those attributes before light weight. Adventure bikes are fine for touring if you just want a little off road capability, but when riding alone, light weight is a priority for me. I'm thinking about doing mt next Colorado trip on a KLX 250. Sure, there are much better bikes to do 1000 mile plus pavement runs, but I know I'll be happier with that once I get there. I thought about trailering it, but where's the fun in that?
@michaellovell25186 жыл бұрын
@Sir Tristan Would you care to elaborate on your presumed authority to disqualify me from posting an opinion? Are you assuming I only own one bike, and have never owned another? You do understand that you have posted nothing more than an opinion, and one which I might much more easily disqualify on much more rational grounds, don't you? Probably not, lol... Carry on.
