Excellent video - great stuff, as always👍 Even as it stands, that there bike is a thing of great beauty. Purposeful shape & size of the beast- I used to lust after those old BM bikes on the way home from school through the windows of Slocombes BMW in Neasden (NW London) back in the late 70's and early 80's. Absolutely gorgeous.

When I was a teenager in the 80s, we used watch club racing at Mallory Park every Sunday. There was a guy raced one of these in the production class, and without exception, spanked everyone else every weekend, without exception. Can't wait to see if you take this one on track.....

got an almost complete identical k75 project! great bike and love you've found one also that looks pretty far along (frame modded and dash changed etc already) great things to check 1st biggest - Final drive spline condition - well known that the material grade of the splint teeth wasn't well matched or the K100 and also that clutch seal leakage drips down the shaft, mixing with the molybdenum and causing it to be 'washed away' (those two don't mix well) this greatly accelerates the spline wear also. you have to take a look, as the volume of the final drive shaft cover means large amounts can leak before any will actually be seen on the floor 2nd biggest - coolant in the oil. it is a combined twin pump acting on the same pump shaft, the pump shaft and or seals can fail and it is impossible to tell, other than water in the oil under oil test ( the fluid doesnt really get lost in to the oil side, as there is no great pressure differential across the pump seal between the two fluid bodies minor stuff i experienced or heard of The clutch and throttle cables were in terrible condition on mine and were not even uncovered at any point, close to snapping, apparently also common if never changed don't leave it on its side stand for long time as the cylinder heads get filled with oil weeping through the piston rings due to horizontal layout. apparently, the T split config of the fronty brakes, with only single pot calipers are lethal on track.... your brakes are either on or off haha. check the main power relay for the started motor etc as they are known to weld together with age and become stuck open, gotta disconnect battery to stop it you missed a lot of headaches, finding one where the original dasah was already removed - that was a nightmare as it is all keyed in to the multiple electronics boxes. have fun! great bike once done

I had a K75s travelled 1000s of miles all over Europe in 6 years of ownership it didn`t miss a beat good torque meant you could load it up with camping gear and missus on the back cruising at 100mph all day and still good in the twisties untill i traded up to the BMW 1100rs . A Solid and Very reliable odd ball, they make very cool cafe racers now .

Either a trackday bike or a monster enduro style 😨 I owned one for a few years, they are absolute tanks, but there's a weakness in the flywheel in the older models that can make them sound like the main bearings are shot ! Older flywheels had only ( from memory ) 6 rivets holding them together, these tended to wear and the induced play then sounded terrible..newer bikes had 10 or 12 rivets and didn't suffer from the same issue..but a relatively easy fix 👍

One of the best engines ever built besides the K750 3. You keep it oiled, it will run. Easy to work on too, all engine parts easy access to bearings and shims, all of it. Great find in a barn. Ride it after you tune it back up. Shell go.
@kuhndj672 күн бұрын
As soon as I saw that the brakes weren’t locked up like on every barn bike I’ve ever touched I thought you might have a ‘looks worse than it is’ situation. In that case I’d say put some time into it… really does look like top cafe racer material to me.

A great choice as a follow-up to your GS restoration. Remember how it was BMW's plan for the K-series to replace the boxer twins? And yet here we are, 40 years later, and while the twin has gone from strength to strength, the flying brick is now just an intriguing footnote in BMW's history.
@Rossi593Күн бұрын
I had a 1979 R100RT in 1984 and traded it in for a K100RT which looked the business at that time. It was a great mile muncher with a superb fairing if you were very short. I’m no giant at 5’8” but it needed a crouch to get its quiet best. Honestly, it was soulless with a dreadful seat and vibrating engine. But it lingered for many years in its various guises. The 1300s are pretty mental. What they really achieved was a great comparison and guaranteed the flat twin’s survival and development.

"will a k bike run after standing" 😂 obviously... I bought my k75 when I was 22 as a cheap shitter to go to France on. That was 18 years ago and it's still mine... My r ninet feels like a fisher price toy in comparison from a build quality pov. The engine actually started life as a Peugeot car engine, bmw bought it off them.
